    Let's take an epic look back at the last 10 Summer Olympic Games and their Balance Beam Champions! The balance beam is a rectangular artistic gymnastics apparatus, as well as the event performed using the apparatus. The beam is a small, thin beam which is typically raised from the floor on a leg or stand at both ends. The balance beam is only performed by female gymnasts. Beams are usually covered with leatherlike material, and are only 4 inches wide. Enjoy watching!

      I agree. Everything about it highlighted her strengths and best of all was different! Most beam routines are very formulaic and this was the first one I have seen in a while that wasn’t, while still meeting all the requirements. I hope we see more branching out from the norm in different dance and tumbling elements!

      Yes, I love Sanne’s uniqueness. Shannon’s is my favorite because je ne sais pourquoi and she is creative as well with her handstands (“The Miller”)...I thought I saw one of the other gymnasts do that move as well in this video. Shawn’s is my favorite in the sheer technical skill department. Carly Patterson’s all-around beam routine from 2004 is also technically thrilling. But no one compares with the elegance of Nadia...though Nastia comes close.

    • @jbmusician2007
      @jbmusician2007 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Sanne's was beautiful and the uniqueness is that it is similar to the older routines from 80-96. It was just trick trick jump jump combo turn dismount add arm movements in between. It was ARTISTIC blending artistry and tricks. For me, the only reason Shannon comes out on top for me is Sanne's dismount was too easy.
      Sanne did the okino (triple turn named after Betty Okino from 92). I think Catilina Ponor did the Miller.

    I’m so glad Sanne Wevers brought back the Okino (triple turn) and perfected it, then got her own double L named after her in the same routine. The art of spins on beam is no joke. It was wonderful to see her get her difficulty in another way other than the power acrobatics we’ve become used to seeing. The Chinese girls are using leap combos to get their difficulty for this cycle coming up so can’t wait to see what they bring to the table and if they can capture the gold again.

    • @realtalk13
      @realtalk13 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      her routine was beautiful, but saying it's more "artistic" than a routine like shawn johnson's which focused more on her power seems far too narrow minded. Artistry comes from the combination of technical skill, strength, fluidity, and complex stunts.

    • @Boymanjusri
      @Boymanjusri 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Obviously you don’t know much about gymnastics.. more artistic??? Give me a break they are just different style. In fact, she did too many dance and turn on beam, no difficult tumbles, and her landing is quite easy compared to many top beavers. Not to mention her leap will be considered mediocre compared to Chinese beamers.
      Different doesn’t mean original. It could also mean taking advantage of the rules by putting in fact less difficult elements together. Oh, did I mean Nastia’s line and form is a million times better than her???

    • @Mastermyth08
      @Mastermyth08 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Boymanjusri You could argue that other beamers don't do enough turns. The most you see is the one required turn and then nothing. It's understandable because their strength is tumbles, not turns. It's the other way around for Wevers. Ofcourse she's going to do a routine that plays more to her strength, but that doesn't make it easy. Triple turn is an E rated skill for a reason.

    • @cmsimo999
      @cmsimo999 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Gina T yeah Sui Lu got robbed, I think. Linlin missed touching her toes to her head and I think the judges missed it, and possibly gave her credit for it. She had a few extra small balance checks too. But... that’s judging for you.

    • @jorgebonilla2234
      @jorgebonilla2234 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Actually, if you judge it, you Can see why Deng won, even if only by a tenth.
      The jump credit you mentioned doesn’t make sense. Not the prettiest sheep jump but the ring shape was there. You don’t need to do a Komova-level foot touching head to get credit. It just means you might lose a tenth.
      Either way Deng and Sui’s routines would get hammered under the current code. Excessive pauses before everything and no choreography at all. It’s part of why 2012 is my least favorite beam champion.

    • @albertitomoon5002
      @albertitomoon5002 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cmsimo999 Deng linlin performed that sheep jump well enough to be credited. It's true that Sui Lu had more amplitude but Linlin was great as well. Also something you may not have noticed it's that Sui Lu made 2 -3 adjustments in the routine, which is a deduction. Both gymnasts were fantastic and my dream podium would be both tied for gold, but Deng's performance was worth of a gold medal though.

    Lysenko and Silivas are fantastic! Absolute power and grace and seamless performances. The others are great gymnasts too, but I dont like the choppy, over controlled routines that look stiff and mechanical. The ones that just glide through it with ease. What a great compilation to watch. The looping music was pretty horrid though.
