    They never had a chance against Silivas at this specific routine. Here, Silivas was perfection in motion

    Silivas was one of the few romanian gymnasts that could perform dancing routines head to head with the soviets.

    Thank you for picking exactly the five gymnasts I’d want to see doing this. I like Mills and Johnson a lot and they’re terribly underrated and don’t get their dues

    Neither Shushunova nor Boguinskaya come close to Silivas in this routine. Silivas was art in motion.

    The Romanian pianist is much better than the Soviet one. It is odd that the compulsories didn't move over to recordings at the same time as the optionals.

    Wow, Brandy Johnson that first tumbling run on the pike open was insane she was in the rafters. Even the crowd yelled! She had the highest tumbling of any of the girls.

    This has always been my favorite compulsory floor routine. Boginskaya is my favorite performance, but I love seeing how each performer takes the mandated routine and makes it her own.

    The tempo for the Russian pianist was really quick which really hampered the choreography for the Russian gymnasts. If you look at Daniela she by far danced the routine the best because the tempo gave the choreography a chance to flourish.

    • @thesovgc
      @thesovgc ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Damn, I didn't even think of this. You would think with compulsories supposed to be judging everyone doing the same elements, they should all have the same pianist as well. Even the American pianist is better than the Soviet one 😭

    One of the most regrettable losses in gymnastics history is the removal of compulsory routines from the Olympics. Compulsories were the only way to truly compare gymnasts, as everyone performed the same routine, allowing technical skill, execution, and artistry to shine above all else.
    Watching the compulsory floor routines from the 1988 Olympics, it’s clear to me that Daniela Silivas was superior and should have been the Olympic champion. Her performance here was flawless-she embodied perfection in every detail. Ironically, this compulsory floor routine was developed by the Soviets, theoretically giving them an advantage. However, the Romanians, and particularly Silivas, elevated it further with their artistry and precision, including intricate hand movements and superior execution.
    By contrast, both Soviets (Shushunova and Boguinskaya) failed to fully complete their leaps, which should have been reflected in their scores. Outside of Silivas, the second-best performance in my view was Brandy Johnson. Her leaps were outstanding, better even than Phoebe Mills, yet the political judging of the time prevented her from scoring in the 9.9 range. Mills benefited from performing later in the lineup, which often skewed scores higher.
    Silivas was on a completely different level-her routine was a masterclass in both technical execution and artistry. This performance alone underscores why she deserved to stand at the top of the podium.

    The music playing on this video for Phoebe’s routine is not the same from her routine. It’s a different pianist. That’s weird. Why was another team’s pianist dubbed over for this video? They all performed to the same music, but each team has their own pianist who all had their own style. Here is her routine with the actual music she performed to. She is on with the music in the actual video. In this video, she’s off a bit from the music. th-cam.com/video/FnxZzqEp9Hw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CXHrtAYFT6itjiDa
