    • @misty_blue
      @misty_blue  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One main reason is to make budgies less scared of you. It's important that they are tame enough because in some situations you need to be able to get them in a cage and do other things to care for them. It can also help to improve their behavior because sometimes they are aggressive or naughty.

      I know how you feel. It was like that for us for the first year or more. We spent a lot of time next to their cage without moving much and waiting for them to get used to us. Misty and Blue are from a pet store and were not used to people at all. That's why it took very long for them to get more comfortable. Some days they still avoid me though. I've noticed it works best when I just stand in one place with the millet and wait until they come to me. For instance, I place my hand with millet on top of the cage and wait until they come. It can take many minutes though. For me it helped when I was just talking to other people while my hand was there, so it didn't feel like I was waiting that long. Especially early morning and late afternoon they are more interested in exploring. I hope your birds start getting more comfortable around you!

      to the person(s) with the scared flighty/ panic when people come near birds; Simply pull up a stool , if you can leave it there nearby their cage, and then just take 5 minutes or start with 3 minutes, no less, but same time it takes to change food & water( perhaps?) and just sit there calm taxes and make your best soft Parakeet sounds, pick a sweet them song you always like, cheerful( for example, For my Parakeet/ Budgie " Leela"; Be Bop a Leela she's my baby, be bop a Leela and I don't mean maybe, etc")( I Love You I Love You, I honestly Love You; Olivia Newton John 1980's) I got ( birds name) on a cloudy day, when it's cold outside I got( birds name) O I guess you say, what could make me feel this way.. My Bird( birds name if you like) repeat etc) any sweet song sing it soft and sincerely near or start softly away from the cage, I sing songs with and to them all day and have bed time theme songs, change food and water theme songs builds trust Bec they learn fast too,! to know what to expect what song means what next Good thing! and trust forms. I am a " talkie" person do easy for me but first teach yourself to be more talkie just for your birds, they love to" do you wings".when you see them stretch their legs and wings it's often until well aqusinted with you an anti anxiety expression they use to have self control and are actually paying close attn playing non chalant.
      so I bend at waist spread my arms slowly
      and put one leg back and say I do you wings" you can say your or our,and in morning aft uncovering to get that class like calm attn.We do; do you wings.I slowly switch legs bend put my arm back and slowly extend arms from body spreading my fingers,it's part of being flock leader /acceptance progress
      they get comfortable with your movements with decrease of fear increase of confidence safe to trust that comes with sincere desire & patience. It's hard to be patient for something much feared. They will overcome, keep sm children, other pets blocked away, that pet Parakeets can adjust,
      then they LL gain trust. they actually want to bond with you. one will be braver or more scared than another, but the least afraid bird will lead / show the other all's well/ it's ok.
      Spend time sitting near by in a chair with phone or tablet just don't shove any things at them or fast. the know they are prey creatures, and mechanisms on guard to be steady progress over come. once calm with you and good interaction 15-30 minutes, then start clicker training!Best to You!

    this video helped a lot, i definitely subscribed right away. But how long does it normally take to get the bird to understand the clicking is meant for treats?

    • @misty_blue
      @misty_blue  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I'm very glad I could help out :) I think I did the conditioning about 5-10 times (on the same day) with breaks of a few minutes in between. Basically I went to the cage with the clicker and treat, clicked and directly gave the treat for around 10 times, then I sat on the couch for a few minutes and then I went back to repeat the process. For our male bird Blue, I stopped earlier because he showed he already understood it (he was already looking for the treat right when he heard the click sound). For our female bird I continued a few more rounds.
      Each bird is a bit different, so you also need to try out a bit. I think when you have some trained birds and you are starting to train another bird, they can also learn from each other. They see what the other bird does and then they follow. Although, training several birds together can get chaotic.
      I also noticed all birds feel differently about training. Some love it and even fight to touch the target stick, while others almost never participate. For us, Blue, Micky, Mini and Cyan are very good students, but Misty and Annie usually only watch the others train.
      Anyway, I hope you can tame your birds through training them like this :) Either way it definitely improved our birds' behavior.

    • @misty_blue
      @misty_blue  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The same happened to me. They were scared of the millet because it was so big and they had never seen it before. I left it in a place in the cage or only partly in the cage so they could get used to it. I didn't put it very close to them, just somewhere in the cage. After a few days they noticed the millet didn't attack them 😋 so then they went to taste it. Once they tasted it, they loved it and then I could slowly start training them with it. They just need time to get used to new things 😊 So maybe if you try to introduce the millet slowly, it will go better. Don't force anything and don't go too close to them with the millet. Just let them come to the millet when they feel ready for it. I hope that helps! Feel free to ask anything else 😊
