Just gonna say, number 1 tip turn off the lights to mute? Does work, however keeping a bird in constant darkness to keep it quiet will make it ill.

I agree, I was just about to say this. When you get a bird, their noise is something you should expect. Budgies deserve to have light, no matter how chatty and if you can’t handle it you probably shouldn’t get a bird...

I only exposed my parakeet( had for 3 yaers) to the dark at night. When I covered his cage with a blanket so he could sleep confortably.

@theonlybakedpotato The reason they do that is bc they don’t want to sleep on the perch they’re in. So they climb to go to another position/perch. So I turn of the lights for a few seconds, just so they know, and turn it on again so that they can climb and be in a comfortable position. After that I switch off the lights and they don’t move.

Great tips. I sprout the seeds that fall on the cage floor rather than trashing them. When they are four inches tall I feed them as greens to my budgies. If it's a cold night and we have power outages, I fill a large plastic cooler box with large jars of hot water and place the Budgie cage over it. In the day if the budgies are very noisy, I play calm classical music and they then are much quieter.

I simply shake the birdseed dish and blow softly in it, the husks fly off and the seed stays. Shake it frequently to bring the husks to the top. You can do this outside to keep the house clean, a fan is tougher to bring outside.

I use unbleached fish n chip paper, very cheap off ebay.
To avoid mess on the floor, I put the edges up on the inside of the cage at the bottom.
I always like my birds to walk on the paper, not on the bars as this can put them at risk of catching an legs falling through an it's easier to remove the paper too, rather than having to scrub the bars.
I wash all my budgie stuff in diluted apple cider vinegar, non toxic an it's also antibacterial.
I always spray my birds in the morning, it hits the paper, like you said so less mess, then I recycle it by giving it to my wild garden birds.
I wash my tree branches in apple cider vinegar an then dry them in a warm oven.
I buy wild bird feeders that you hang up an put them in the cage sometimes with shredded paper an seeds, they love to search for food an swing on them.
These are a few of my little tips an thank you for sharing yours, I'm learning so much here 😍😍😍😍😍

Better than a toothbrush, an old paint brush, as it is stiffer bristles and larger to cover more area. And instead of paper on the floor under the cage, which is a waste and the feathers and husks will still blow around. Use a large high nap rug. Debris will collect in the rug and you can just shake it out, outside. And you can put in the washer.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I feel like you really shouldn’t turn of the light to get them to be quiet, buying a budgie, you should expect it to make noise and their eyes don’t adjust to the dark as quick as ours do which why I always keep a nightlight next to my budgies cage, some budgies are even scared of the dark! The dark also makes them think it’s night time so you probably shouldn’t do that unless it’s their bedtime, I’ve only had my budgies for two months but that doesn’t seem like a good idea honestly.

    • @smikalaus8987

Outdoors there is usually some filtered light from the moon or streetlights. Total pitch black darkness is probably not a good thing.
I keep a small nightlight in the bird room and cover the cages 90% with some airflow at the bottom.
I also don't cover the cages until the birdies have themselves settled in for the night.

these are my life hacks i use
    1. i use tacktile button as clicker because some pens make louder noise (my munmun doesn't like loud noise at all)
    2. i play harp instrumental music near cage and both my birds fall asleep in seconds( this might work for you rather than turning off lights)
    3. if your female bird sits inside the feeder bowl means she is trying to nest and if you don't want them to mate remove that bowl and get those planting pot's plates which are use to hold water under planting pots. i use a 5" diameter planting plate. that way she doesn't try to nest.
    4. if u are making DIY toys for your birds don't use fevicol glue or plastic glue gun it's harmful if they eat them instead use juth ropes to tie stuff.

If you have a red Mite problem or any other bug, instead of spending 20 -30 dollars on pest remover, buy a cheap bag of lime powder and sprinkle it on the area that has mites or bugs and they will be gone by the end of the day....plus it is not harmful👍

The turn off thing is alright, sometimes you need to take a call for a quick 10 minutes, it's not like he's doing it for hours on end.

I personally wouldn't feed them that many seeds in the first place. Birds need a balanced diet consisting out of vegetables and pellets for the most part. It's better to give them seeds mainly as treats during interaction as they contain a lot of fat. Feeding a bird an all seed diet could lead to all sorts of illnesses. Please do your research on parrot nutrition, it's extremely important

Number 10 - all good things said apart from that the branches have to be treated. It could contain parasites harmful to your bird, this is a big no no, so sorry 😬 xx

hack no. 7: sounds messy. we just take the feeder and gently blow the husks out

    • @BudgieWorld
      @BudgieWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว

It is messy, I just did it for the video and cleaned the floor afterwards, I don't do it on the floor, it was just for the presentation and the idea behind blowing off the husks, I do blow on them like you do as well, and I will build a seed/husk separator soon, the only thing that is making me to postpone the video, is to figure out the easiest way to teach everyone how to make one in the simplest way possible
