    After about a week into clicker training with our Meyer's parrot, he started making the clicker noise himself, at first when he saw the clicker, and now just to request a treat 😅

      What are you supposed to do in that case? Should you give treats when they do that?

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@dorkusamericanuswe usually do give him a treat when he makes the noise (in moderation of course). If we're trying to get a desired behavior, we click the clicker and then give him a treat and he responds well to that too

    Hi Flock Talk! I just wanted to thank you for teaching me so much about animal behaviour, how to respect my pet and only do things (ask him to step up, if he wants pets) if he gives me consent, the right way to train an animal. Your videos aren't just tutorials on how to teach your bird to do a trick, they are tutorials trainer the trainer to respect the animal and work with it. you are honestly such a great teacher and I aspire to be like you one day and teach people about animals... no, like seriously that is what I want to do as a career, teach people about animals!
    Anyway, I just wanted to thank you

    So, I have four birds. I see that Newt is in the same room while you are training Mia, so I already assume there is no issue. But curious how the clicking affects him when you do training with Mia. Does he understand that the clicking is for her, not him? For me, only one bird will give me the time of day so I'm hoping the others see and are more willing to training when they see Pepe getting all the snacks.

      Good question, I'd like to know this too. I have a sun conure and Greek cheek. They'll probably fight over the click treat so I'm going to have to do one on one I would think 🤔?

    Green bird hears click, hears, does loops around its perch, look at me, I do tricks, I’m upside down, I’m so cute, I’m funny… no treats, guess she doesn’t love me.

    Also if it helps anyone I have a GCC that loves loves LOVES orange juice and nothing else (she eats her chop and pellets but it dosnt get as high a response)
    But when it came to training I used to use Bell peper bc she liked it... Enough
    However since I noticed that orange juice was so adored I would out it in a syringe and drop it to her as a reward
    SUCCESS!
    I must say though, if you feel this works well for your bird you will need to consider a few things such as the high sugar content in orange juice and if you have a young bird whom is weaning you dotn want them to regress.
    That being said, happy training!

    I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!! I was wondering if you think that a first time bird owner could be able to handfeed a bird, (when the bird is around 5-6 weeks old ofc), and be able to wean it onto something nuitritional, and my other question was, can teenagers be able to hand feed birds properly? Im just asking because my friend is getting a 5 week old cockatiel and I'm slightly worried. Thank you

    What to give to birds asa
    a treat?

  • @antoniokinsey4041
    @antoniokinsey4041 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    How do you know if the bird’s signs of anticipation aren’t just coming from the bird looking at your other hand that’s grabbing the treat to get the treat ready to feed the bird versus hearing the sound of the clicker.

    • @FlockTalk
      @FlockTalk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      By keeping your body still prior to the actual click, as I do mention it’s extremely important to keep every other potential body signal inconsistent so the only consistency prior to treat delivery is the clicking sound. If sometime the great is in your right hand, your left hand, your pocket, a pouch, you grab it after clicking from a different place your body moves differently it won’t be a consistent enough indication of a treat coming. Making sure to move exclusively after clicking is a big part as well, the click is a precursor to your hand reaching for the pouch, or reaching forwards for delivery all of which indicate the greats arrival. As long as the click comes first it will be the main bridge.

    Hi I really like your channel it really helps me and I also have the same bird as you😁. I really support your channel and subscribed . I was going to ask if you can do a video of cleaning things what to use to clean there cages or there area so you don't use some thing sented and hurts them. Can you also do a video of showering them. thank you so much for helping me with my bird with these videos. 😁😁😁

    • @EldritchAnimation
      @EldritchAnimation 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For our parrotlet, we use diluted apple cider vinegar to clean her cage. I believe we do around a 2/3 water, 1/3 vinegar mix, then just spray it onto the paper towels that we use to scrub with. It's safe and natural, but we still also let her cage air out a bit after cleaning to get rid of the strong vinegary smell before we put our bird back in.
      As always, do your own research and don't trust info on your pets from random internet comments, but if you google it you'll find that it's a common way to clean bird cages.

    Because l want birds but my parents are not allowing me.

    • @tarajh
      @tarajh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Birds are very expensive and live a realllly long time. You will need to spend 2-4 hours playing with your bird _every day._ They also require a lot of adjustments in the home (no Teflon cookware, no air freshners, etc.).
      The best thing you can do to convince your parents is to PROVE your *commitment* to an expensive, high maintenance pet through preparation.
      Create a research file or binder and fill it with info on the bird you want and all its care & dietary needs and associated costs:
      -Print info on local bird rescues or breeders (or wherever you plan to get the bird from)
      -Print the specs of the cages you might want and what you will fill them with.
      -Print info on your local Avian Vet and the suggested care schedule & cost of annual bird check-ups.
      -Make a list of all the things the whole household will have to do to help maintain the health & safety of your bird.
      -Create a long-term care plan for your bird. If you get a bird that's going to live 30+ years, where will it live if you end up going to college or joining the military?
      -Start saving EVERY PENNY from chores, birthdays, odd jobs, etc. for your Future Bird Fund.
      -Find a local animal shelter or bird rescue to volunteer at.
      If all of the above sounds like too much work, you are NOT ready for a bird.
      If you ARE ready and consistently prove your commitment to a bird and your parents still aren't on board... then at least you'll have all the info you need and a nice savings account to get your own bird when you move out!
