- Many Lexus vehicles integrate the display for stereo, climate control, and navigation, together in one screen. The Metra fit kit provides an integrated display to provide this functionality with any after-market head unit. It includes an amplifier by-pass harness to go directly from the head unit to the speakers. This video shows how to assemble and wire the Metra 99-8164 for Lexus RX300.

Well I know what I'm doing when I get the mechanical bits of my RX300 working. Thank you so much for the video. I personally might go with a touchscreen head unit but that's me. cheers
Thank you for watching and for commenting. Regardless of what head unit you go with you will need a way to control your ac and you also will have to deal with bypassing the amp.
I was like, "man that looks easy enough," then you flipped the switch and had the whole interior out and I was like, "that's gonna cost a lot to pay someone to do."
Yes getting to the rear-located amplifier to do the bypass requires you remove the glovebox, kick panel, door sills, rear seat, and trunk deck. The amp is a real pain in the rear. It's not difficult, just tedious.
Do you loose the engine data with this kit, the MPG readout available on the stock system? Nice install, I could certainly see adding this!
As you've guessed, the MPG display is gone. All you have on the screen are the controls for HVAC. Thanks for watching and for commenting.
Like your video. Just a question, does the factory amplifier connect to the factory sub?
I didn't know there was such a thing as a factory sub for these cars, and i don't know anything about it. The factory amp does connect to all the speakers.
There is a stock sub under the passenger seat. I am in the process of reconnecting the stock one and removing the after market sub. I checked the connection at the stock sub and it’s in tact. Next I will check the amp to see if the after market sub installers disconnected it. Will report back what I find. Thanks

The one in this video was purchased on eBay. Search the part number provided above, 99-8164, on Google if you want to find other sellers.
If I just wanted to replace the Head unit to a pioneer fh-s52bt, do i need to replace the kit?
You can replace the head unit without the metra kit but you have to either bypass the amp or wire the head unit straight to the speakers.
Does the nav still work (with the AC Control screen)?
Sorry I don't recall if this supports the nav option. Check the installation manual.

You can. Just use a head unit that combines a backup camera.
If you’re installing a new amp and speakers, the bypass would be completely unnecessary and you’d just route the speakers directly to the new amp right?
You would have to run new wires from each speaker to the new amp.

Is the bypass harness only used if u wanna use the factory wiring ? As In the wires that are already In the doors and that still runs the factory amp ??
@@danielurrea9091 Yes I completed my install. You don't need the bypass harness as the amp will no longer be used. Everything you said is correct.
Do you have any idea what the 3.5 headphone jack does on the metra's wiring harness?

@@Merryfrankster_ That's the thing, the manual has no mention of this mysterious jack. Well since you didn't use it, probably won't effect me either.
Lol it could be just a headphone jack, for headphones.
The jack is to connect steering wheel controls with another adapter
I feel the kit at $500+ is a waste if your not going all in with new speakers and AMP. I wish there was a third party alternative to the A/C issue.
You mean that for $500 you would want new speakers and amps included? For that money, all you could get is wal-mart quality stuff.

I just got a 10.1 android 2000 lexus rx300 new radio. i changed it but it doesnt turn on and now the windows wont go down.

This person blew the fuse under the steering wheel that says gage it's a 7.5 ...I am also having an issue with trying this same install has anybody been able to get one to power on

A couple of notes: 1= Without installing an aftermarket amp, you're not able to hookup the subwoofer that is under the passenger seat. So losing a little bass in the system (a tiny mono sub amp can fit easily behind the glove box area). 2 = People should know that the Metra kit has some issues. a] it does not dim at night with the dash lights. You can adjust the brightness in the menu but it is either going to be dark during the day or way to bright at night. For the price of this kit, Metra not including a dimmer line for the screen/controls is unacceptable. b] even thou some models of this kit in other vehicles will display the vehicle's outdoor temperature sensor, this one for the RX300 does not. So you lose that feature. 3 = more a criticism on the installation; you guys need to learn to solder & heat shrink. That wiring looks nasty, I would never let a customer's vehicle leave like that. You left a lot of bare wires as well, doesn't mater if those lines weren't used, they should never be left exposed.
Solder on these wires is a waste of time. Crimps are more secure. We use crimps over solder in all our motorsport applications, whenever possible. I would not call that nasty, not unless you want to display your own ignorance. There is no bare wire left in the installation. I don't know where you get that. Some of the shots may have been taken as work in progress. Get off your friggin high horse.
PS. We don't give a rat's ass about subwoofers in fact we rip them out of eery vehicle that comes in our shop.

Nah you can get a active Line output converter like a LC2i pro etc or even some amps have LOC built in. Definitely a way to get proper sound without replacing factory unit. But I like the android upgrade better

why you replacing radio
It quit working, so needed replace. Second-hand radio did not work either. Replaced amplifier with second-hand and still no sound.

@@yvettehardison4941 if factory radio is basic and you replace with aftermarket navigation radio I don’t think it bad or now install navigation radio and want to reinstall factory basic radio it okay
On this car, we replaced both the factory radio and the factory amp with used factory units, and still it produced no sound. So we had to find another solution.

My thoughts exactly, but there just aren't any good alternative options. Sometimes, you have to work for it.
