@@pokemaster123ism A lot of missing frames in character animations, bad sound quality, an entire character theme is just missing from two of the games, an odd amount of new spelling mistakes, etc. The art was really rough but thankfully all of those issues have been fixed in the new port that just came out on modern platforms but the mobile port of the trilogy is notoriously criticized and frowned upon by the AA community as a whole.
No joke, Devil May Cry 4: Refrain was delisted soon after this video released. I guess capcom just forgot the game existed and quickly took it down when they were reminded.
The Mirror's Edge game was actually really good, was a rare example of a major game being ported to mobile and actually having it's controls adapted for it back then and it managed to preserve the core feel of Mirror's Edge by still being about fast directional movements.
Ive played through all of Secret Of Mana and Dust: An Elysian Tail on iPhone. Dust in particularly was ported to mobile extremely well and was fun to play.
The theory is they ported over Java Based mobile ports of the games that were made for Cellphones. The did have a decent port of MM2 that ran smooth but not perfect before this current batch was released, but they delisted that one
And i'm glad, it has the power to emulate wii games, so imagine what the games written for mobile could accomplish. Controllers have gotten more portable and cheaper too. Why spend 300 on a switch when you can spend 30 on a controller.

If anyone knows the game Sky: Children of the Light, it is being ported to the switch, and not the Nintendo eShop, actually a real game! Which makes me happy because it is definitely a lesser known game so it will get more attention.

Pay a little money and buy Stardew Valley for iOS or android! It's one of the best mobile games ever made and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the controls are!
I remember playing Mirror’s Edge on my dad’s iPad all the time when it came out. In fact, that was the only Mirror’s Edge game I had ever played or even heard of, so you can imagine how shocked I was when I first saw how different the mobile game was to the real thing.
@@MadWatcher yeah IPhone emulation is pretty trash, not the kind of phone you'd want to use in that regard. Mostly because of how hard it is to use none verified apps. Android is definitely the way to go if you want emulation on the phone. Though still is my last choice for emulation, but in a pinch of boredom it works well enough. Though most good Android devices can barely emulate PS2 yet, but Gamecube and lower work pretty excellent. N64 games are still a crap shoot Though, but guess those were always a bitch to emulate.

Though in a way I'm glad a large majority of people aren't savy to emulation on phones, free roms are increasingly harder to get already. If everyone did it, all the rom sights would be shutdown.
@@notme1282 no denying that, but on the phone it's pretty decent, though the PS2 emulation is still pretty awful, Gamecube runs pretty flawlessly. Anything older have 0 problems emulating unless it's a bad rom or iso. Sadly I'm in the boat where my Phone is better than my potato PC, but PC definitely has thr benefit of emulating more modern games and being able to pretty much visually upgrade older games more.
Here's some interesting facts that I know about _Sonic 4_ that Scott must have missed out on. First, _Sonic the Hedgehog 4_ was supposed to be called _Sonic the Portable,_ as evident by the Ferris Wheel decorations in Casino Street. This basically explains why this game felt so lackluster - it was a low budget mobile game that was later ported onto consoles, so it's the opposite of a console game on mobile. Second, Sonic's model in the pre-SEGA Forever versions of the mobile version of _Sonic 4_ does indeed seem to be reused from _Sonic Rush_ and _Sonic Rush Adventure,_ and this may just be obvious, given that Dimps was responsible for both of the _Rush_ games and _Sonic 4._ One thing to note about the pre-SEGA Forever model was that one of Sonic's idle animations exclusive to the mobile version of _Sonic 4_ is him pulling out a phone and dancing to the music. It looks slow and choppy, but I think that with a bit of reanimating, it can actually look pretty good! Sadly, when the SEGA Forever version updated his model, the animation was removed. Finally, two stages in the mobile version of _Sonic 4_ are significantly different from their console counterparts! Those two stages are Casino Street Zone Act 2 and Lost Labyrinth Act 2. Both of them were the original versions of said stages and SEGA thought their concepts didn't work out. Instead of scrapping the original stages entirely, the redesigned Casino Street Act 2 and Lost Labyrinth Act 2 appeared in the console versions of _Sonic 4_ while the original versions appeared in the mobile versions of _Sonic 4._ One other thing I forgot to mention was that in the case of Casino Street Zone Act 2, its theme was also redone for the console release, as evident by the _Sonic 4_ soundtrack having two versions of the Casino Street Zone Act 2 theme. The original theme is named "Casino Street Zone Act 2 (Mobile ver." while the redone theme is simply "Casino Street Zone Act 2". Still, I personally find _Sonic the Hedgehog 4_ to be the epitome of what a _Sonic_ game should not be: awful story, abysmal and buggy gameplay, bad soundtrack (the melodies were there, but why did SEGA go for that cheap imitation Genesis sound font?), disgusting art style, terrible and clunky animation, and recycled and unoriginal ideas. I'm guessing that the reason why _Sonic 4_ even was like this is because this is what game critics thought a _Sonic_ game was like.
Haha, I remember the phone animation! Especially from the Windows Phone version where the phone is a model of a Lumia, with the menu, app icons and everything! So many memories from the 2010s...especially Glu Mobile. Man, I miss those days.
The best port of a game to mobile I’ve seen recently is Stardew Valley. It’s so nice when a creator actually reconfigures their game rather than just sticking a D pad in the corner and expecting you to have surgical precision when clicking the shrunken down menus.
Looks like mobile devices had more support from triple A developers than the Wii U did. I'm also really surprised there wasn't any Gameloft on here. But to be fair, those were mostly knockoffs of console games made for mobile. I'd love to see a video dedicated to Gameloft.

I enjoyed the triple aaa mobile support but the down side of this took away sales from the 3ds and vita......the casual crowd. I wish the vita was shown more triple a and first party support.😞

They were pretty fun but then they released Modern Combat 5 free version which made more many many times more money then all theyre previous games combined and they realized the true money making method on mobile, microtransactions and free games

My first experience with a console game on my phone was 'Call Of Duty: Zombies'. Man, I played the absolute hell oit of it.. 'Call Of Duty Mobile' isn't bad at all. I play it while I'm at work, so I probably put 10 hours a week into it. Mobile games and console ports are definitely getting much better..

You can play game boy and game boy color emulators on a ti-84 plus ce I have that calculator, but not emulators. Idrc tho, i prefer using the oem to play these games... unless its an nes, snes, master system, or turbo grafix. Then i would just crack open the wii u virtual console.
A lot of people forget Resident Evil Degeneration. It was a pretty good mobile RE game, similar graphics and gameplay to RE4 mobile, but it was a single adventure rather than being chopped up into missions, and it was actually built for mobile, so it didn't suck.
We actually had the same journey. I also started out with an ipod touch then got the iphone 4 when I was in 8th grade, which was 2011. Good stuff Scott :)
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is an EXCELLENT game that got a perfect port on iOS, complete with higher-res models; totally worth it if you like that style of game, and it’s got a great story to boot
Even on android some of the apps just don't work. At least a good chunk of them work anyway. Even if an equivalent to apks were to come to iPhones, 32 bit apps aren't supported.
I can confirm. When I was in 8th grade in 2008/2009 the cool students had an IPod touch. During the English lessons we had to film a commercial. Our group made a commercial about the Ipod. It's fun to watch it now.
not only are there console games being ported, but on android you can literally emulate actual wii games and ps2 games at 1080p and it runs at almost full speed. (If you have a snapdragpn 845 or above) The galaxy S10 can literally run xenoblade in 2K at 30fps.

That's a hardware malfunction that can be fixes, even if it's common. Controlling anything on a mobile's screen is inherently flawed for anything that's even the least bit complicated. I mean, way back then on the DS they tried it with Super Mario 64, they even gave you a thumstrap, and using the touchscreen was full analogue, which is way superior to the D-Pad on paper. People still preferred the D-Pad.
It's a new generation now here to replace us cranky old gamers now. From my teens the best game on a phone was Snake. No worries though if they got cool dudes like Scott who respect and love the history, gameplay and music of old games(check out the playlist that plays during all his videos, most of it is classic games!).
In Brazil since everyone is poor all we had was Java phones, so imagine while the USA is playing their 3d sims on their phones we on brazil were playing knock-off sprited versions of the games such as Sims/Gta (renamed gangstar city) that were limited on content and had thousands of different versions online.
Yeah, I don't play games on my phone until this day, mainly because I have so many bad memories about these java ones. its not a surprise how many people are so closeminded about videogame culture, those are not great experiences to have.
I used to play a lot of Java games too since I never really had consoles, and when I got my first phone I would play a lot of them all the time. My phone already had some preset games which were really good, then through my PC I learned how to get even more and better games. I knew how to choose such games and I usually had a lot of blast with them, I have a lot of good memories of them left.
I actually spent my whole childhood playing java games I still play them now from time to time on my Android phone I even know a bunch of websites where you could still get those games

Mobile processors are getting amazing, especially since they can run full emulation of psp, gamecube and Playstation. 3ds emulation just came to android this week so.... Mobile gaming is definitely better than before.
Half-Life 2 and Portal got great android ports that actually work as good as the PC/Xbox/PS3 counterparts But only for Nvidia Shield. It's understandable because they didn't want it to look or run like hot garbage, but I am not spending that much for a game I already own on PC that I would have to play with a controller
@@litlsnek Possibly but the Nvidia Shield last time I checked uses a Tegra X1, which is the same SoC as the one in the Switch, albeit there's a few tweaks made for the silicon in the Switch. If anything, Apple's mobile chips are much more powerful and I'd imagine can handle those games at full fidelity fine. Snapdragon processors are better now but still not nearly as powerful enough.
I have the Samsung galaxy core prime and every now and again the system UI will fail and sometimes it's the program in charge of the keyboard so I don't have a keyboard when it fails. Makes me want an old Nokia.

Anything older have 0 problems emulating unless it's a bad rom or iso. Sadly I'm in the boat where my Phone is better than my potato PC, but PC definitely has thr benefit of emulating more modern games and being able to pretty much visually upgrade older games more.

Here's some interesting facts that I know about _Sonic 4_ that Scott must have missed out on.
First, _Sonic the Hedgehog 4_ was supposed to be called _Sonic the Portable,_ as evident by the Ferris Wheel decorations in Casino Street. This basically explains why this game felt so lackluster - it was a low budget mobile game that was later ported onto consoles, so it's the opposite of a console game on mobile.
Second, Sonic's model in the pre-SEGA Forever versions of the mobile version of _Sonic 4_ does indeed seem to be reused from _Sonic Rush_ and _Sonic Rush Adventure,_ and this may just be obvious, given that Dimps was responsible for both of the _Rush_ games and _Sonic 4._ One thing to note about the pre-SEGA Forever model was that one of Sonic's idle animations exclusive to the mobile version of _Sonic 4_ is him pulling out a phone and dancing to the music. It looks slow and choppy, but I think that with a bit of reanimating, it can actually look pretty good! Sadly, when the SEGA Forever version updated his model, the animation was removed.
Finally, two stages in the mobile version of _Sonic 4_ are significantly different from their console counterparts! Those two stages are Casino Street Zone Act 2 and Lost Labyrinth Act 2. Both of them were the original versions of said stages and SEGA thought their concepts didn't work out. Instead of scrapping the original stages entirely, the redesigned Casino Street Act 2 and Lost Labyrinth Act 2 appeared in the console versions of _Sonic 4_ while the original versions appeared in the mobile versions of _Sonic 4._ One other thing I forgot to mention was that in the case of Casino Street Zone Act 2, its theme was also redone for the console release, as evident by the _Sonic 4_ soundtrack having two versions of the Casino Street Zone Act 2 theme. The original theme is named "Casino Street Zone Act 2 (Mobile ver." while the redone theme is simply "Casino Street Zone Act 2".
Still, I personally find _Sonic the Hedgehog 4_ to be the epitome of what a _Sonic_ game should not be: awful story, abysmal and buggy gameplay, bad soundtrack (the melodies were there, but why did SEGA go for that cheap imitation Genesis sound font?), disgusting art style, terrible and clunky animation, and recycled and unoriginal ideas. I'm guessing that the reason why _Sonic 4_ even was like this is because this is what game critics thought a _Sonic_ game was like.

The best port of a game to mobile I’ve seen recently is Stardew Valley. It’s so nice when a creator actually reconfigures their game rather than just sticking a D pad in the corner and expecting you to have surgical precision when clicking the shrunken down menus.
Looks like mobile devices had more support from triple A developers than the Wii U did.
I'm also really surprised there wasn't any Gameloft on here. But to be fair, those were mostly knockoffs of console games made for mobile. I'd love to see a video dedicated to Gameloft.
Though their own IPs are great though. Especially Asphalt.
Gamelofts poor ballencing to encourage pay to win destroys the fun factor in my opinion, even though their games are pretty impressive.

irrelevoice there’s quite a bunch actually. In 3rd party app stores like tweakbox and ignition you can just go to the emulators tab and scroll through a whole bunch of them. I only use one though, provenance, wich can run about every console up to the ps1

A lot of people forget Resident Evil Degeneration. It was a pretty good mobile RE game, similar graphics and gameplay to RE4 mobile, but it was a single adventure rather than being chopped up into missions, and it was actually built for mobile, so it didn't suck.

I can confirm. When I was in 8th grade in 2008/2009 the cool students had an IPod touch. During the English lessons we had to film a commercial. Our group made a commercial about the Ipod. It's fun to watch it now.
not only are there console games being ported, but on android you can literally emulate actual wii games and ps2 games at 1080p and it runs at almost full speed. (If you have a snapdragpn 845 or above) The galaxy S10 can literally run xenoblade in 2K at 30fps.

That's a hardware malfunction that can be fixes, even if it's common. Controlling anything on a mobile's screen is inherently flawed for anything that's even the least bit complicated.
I mean, way back then on the DS they tried it with Super Mario 64, they even gave you a thumstrap, and using the touchscreen was full analogue, which is way superior to the D-Pad on paper. People still preferred the D-Pad.

In Brazil since everyone is poor all we had was Java phones, so imagine while the USA is playing their 3d sims on their phones we on brazil were playing knock-off sprited versions of the games such as Sims/Gta (renamed gangstar city) that were limited on content and had thousands of different versions online.
Yeah, I don't play games on my phone until this day, mainly because I have so many bad memories about these java ones. its not a surprise how many people are so closeminded about videogame culture, those are not great experiences to have.
I used to play a lot of Java games too since I never really had consoles, and when I got my first phone I would play a lot of them all the time. My phone already had some preset games which were really good, then through my PC I learned how to get even more and better games. I knew how to choose such games and I usually had a lot of blast with them, I have a lot of good memories of them left.
I actually spent my whole childhood playing java games I still play them now from time to time on my Android phone I even know a bunch of websites where you could still get those games

@@litlsnek Possibly but the Nvidia Shield last time I checked uses a Tegra X1, which is the same SoC as the one in the Switch, albeit there's a few tweaks made for the silicon in the Switch.
If anything, Apple's mobile chips are much more powerful and I'd imagine can handle those games at full fidelity fine. Snapdragon processors are better now but still not nearly as powerful enough.

When my one of my brothers first showed me this, we were having pizza. And when we got to the part where Scot said, "Damn it!", I was getting another piece of pizza to put on my plate, and when I heard that, I immediately stopped dead in my tracks because I wasn't expecting that reaction at all. I'm glad I did stop because otherwise I would have dropped my piece of pizza that I was getting.
I just played through bully on my PS5 last week, lots of issues but a great blast of nostalgia. Can't imagine how piss poor it would run on a smartphone 6 years ago
