I like how 47 is one of the few characters where in the case of "two boys who became something like brothers after growing up together but one of them believes violence gets things done quicker and cleaner", 47 is the violent one. There's not many stories where the violent one is the protagonist.

seeing 47 smirk slighty after diana says "no one is untouchable" at the end game cutscene made me smile so hard man this series is one of my favourites in gaming
As someone who played the series on and of over the years. I got lost in the way the game studio was selling all those "parts" and never managed a proper play through hence I neve understood the story... THANK YOU for making this video. Finally I put all the parts together in the correct order.
Anything with a series that has lore to be compiled and explained, please don't hesitate to make these videos even if they aren't horror based. These kinds of content are amazing to watch.
I'm geniunly impressed, I've played through every Hitman game that was released, and I knew the story, but I've never been able to explain it coherently to anyone. Yet you managed to sum it all up in order perfectly. Great video!
factual. 47; calm and calculated, monotone, but you can always tell his emotion Grey; sounds like he's had battle scars and sounds very similar to 47 Diana; very similar voice to 47 Edwards; nasally voice with obvious emotion, and VERY unique as a villain.
Damn thats crazy i didnt know 47 had an opiate addiction. Having struggled with it a long time myself due to chronic backpain thats super relatable. His discription of the withdrawals is spot on too i get the exact same symptoms the vivid nightmares and anxiety are the worst part honestly i can deal with physical pain but mental pain and distress is fucked. I can totally see why 47 would have a very hard time getting clean especially when you've had a super traumatic life on top of pain that needs killing. Thats literally the exact situation im in, its so wierd I've played hitman my whole life and always felt such a deep connection with 47. Finding out we share the same addiction to deal with our pain and trauma just makes so much sense its a trip to think about. This reminds me of a quote from a interview with 47's voice actor David Bateson where he basically was saying 47 started off as a fictional emotionless programed killing machine but over the years through the shared experiences and soul of everyone who has ever worked on 47, played the game, lived in his shoes, and became 47 he has become real. He is the sum of everyone whos lives he has been a part of. Hes full of humanity, thought, belief, soul, and emotion. 47 is as much a part of us as we are a part of him. He is more than any one person he is an immortal entity of collective consciousness. Love to anyone who reads this, Happy Hunting. Amazing video btw top notch
@@LK-em1bv @40:36 from the Damnation novel, there's a subplot where he opens up to a targets personal assistant who used to have a heroin problem about it and makes friends with her
26:54 *[CODENAME 47]* is one of the most tragic characters of gaming. He's a professional, the best of the best in this world. He was literally designed to kill. As such, he can never really retire as a Silent Assassin and start a new life without endangering the normal people he's close to. Father Vittorio is the proof of that fact and Agent 47 has no choice but to accept that fate. So rather than endanger his friend any longer, 47 gave up on trying to find *Absolution* and sticks to what he's good at. *_Assasinations. Contracts. And Blood Money..._*
I also love how Freelancer offers a perfect bookend to the series, but also leaves it open for future installments. 47 has what he wanted at the end of the first game: Peace, his yellow bird, but he also still has purpose. Combatting the power vacuum left by Providence and the ICA. In my instance, he's taken out thousands of targets and toppled hundreds of syndicates. I can't stop playing, but when that day comes, 47 will live on in peace fishing on his dock, presumably having Diana over for dinner, plinking in his gun range, playing his cello, painting his shed, tending to his garden...bombing around the valley in his gilded helicopter he got at the copart auction in Dubai after the events of the first level of Hitman 3, taking fishing trips on Silvio Caruso's float plane, driving mountain roads in Dino Bosco's Alfa Romeo...that makes me happy. Then one day, the next entry in the series will be announced and we'll be back in the saddle for a new threat. But if that day never comes, I feel happy for the life 47 will lead for eternity in my absence.
Freelancer i think would cause some lore problems if they ever make another Hitman series becouse exactly what u said. 47 no longer takes orders from an agency and hes unlikly to ever give up hes freedom ever again. In the main story 47 was just a tool for ICA and he never got any choices, here is your targets now take them out is pretty mutch all he was to them. Diana ofc cared for him but she was in the same position just 1 step up on the ladder. Now with freelancer 47 are in charge and has the final say in any mission and for any target, he can even choose to leave a mission before its completed in freelancer which was impossable before that. Its another thing showing that 47 now has the final say. Diana is still there giving him intel and offering targets but 47 has the final say. 47 is never gonna give up that freedom ever again so its gonna be a real challenge to be able to make that fit into the lore of the next game. They could ofc avoid that by making 47 injecting himself the "canon" ending but that would be beyond stupid to do that.
I like that Arthur was more scared of losing who is than actually dying. In a way it is like dying without actually dying, like killing someone's soul but their body still lives. If you kill him, he dies having everything, being at his highest point in life, but injecting him ends up with him living the rest of his life at his lowest point having nothing. The assassin shows there are fates worse than death.
i loved that the developers included that ending , its insane when u think how Arthur truly only cared about his power in providence and 47 took it all away which was so much better than ending his life esply after the line "atleast i die knowing who i am"
The death of personality was actually a medical procedure on Babylon 5. One time a murderer had his mind wiped and was re-educated as a monk. It came down to expediency.
@lumoneko299 true, however hes on a train in the middle of nowhere probably surrounded by dozens of corpses of providence members. Ether also did lose their only antidote in Johannesburg, and probably wont be able to develop a new one considering the lab was blown up
47 went from looking like a paper mache mask in the first couple of games, to looking like aging Voldemort in Absolution, to being a photo model level handsome in the latest trilogy. Now that's character development.
the thing that's a little weird is that they've de-aged him quite a bit. 47 is *supposed to be* 58yrs old, but in the trilogy they sort of de-age him to 35-40. Which is Fine, but it seems weird to me. I would love a game where 47 is depicted as properly older, but i know that probably won't happen
@@phoenixelysiaI think the trilogy is suppose to act as a reboot in a way. 47 having the tattoo on the back of his head is proof of that since 47 scraped it off the back of his head in absolution.
@@kamikazehound3243 It IS a reboot. The first game of the trilogy clearly also being the early days of his ICA work. I think Harry didn't dig enough into checking the dates each contract occurred to ensure the most concise timeline possible.

REALLY appreciate the mission cut to the Hitman 2016 cinematic. I barely played any Hitman pre-WoA so it was so damn cool to see that the cinematic were referencing previous lore. :) Also, I just love Arthur Edwards last play: "Why not erase your memory and become a thoughtless killing machine?" "No." "Well, I'm out of ideas..."
To be fair to him, it's not like he could actually *fight* 47, especially given that all of his remaining guards were dead and/or no longer in the same post code.
That's basically me. Not really keeping up with the story and just playing. I'm basically that meme: "I don't know who I am, I don't know why I'm here - all I know is that I must kill"
Man, I’ve only ever seen all the cool ways you could kill people in the newer trilogy. I never thought the story would be as engaging and incredible as it is!
One of my favorite parts of these type of videos is that, seeing the graphics evolve. It’s truly incredible isn’t it? I just started gaming again after taking many years off. I moved, got a PS5 and am currently gathering parts to build a relatively nice gaming pc, cause … ya know,, peer pressure lol. But anyway, it’s videos like this that help me get caught up on all the things I’ve missed as well as expose me to the things I need to know. Excited to see where things get taken over the next few years, should be amazing
As someone who played the series on and of over the years. I got lost in the way the game studio was selling all those "parts" and never managed a proper play through hence I neve understood the story... THANK YOU for making this video. Finally I put all the parts together in the correct order.
Very timely, as very soon the "Freelancer" mode of Hitman 3 will be coming out and I believe it's simply Diana and 47 working together as a freelance assassin pair after the ICA was again dismantled.
I’m loving Freelancer. Although I’m a bit shit unlike 47 so I keep failing before reaching the end of my first campaign 😂 so I lose my equipment and have to start over. At least the Safehouse mastery is persistent so I’m just persevering so I can upgrade my house 😂
Once again: big Kudos for your care in pronouncing names And while it’s not horror, it’s a passion project and your enthusiasm is wonderful Your “entire story” videos always show your investment in the games you tackle and I love your style, your thoroughness, and your snarky remarks Keep being awesome
Something about the Constant's voice just hits a sweet spot for me. Dramatic enough to fit in with the super cinematic angle the new trilogy took, but also has a little bit of scheming cartoon evil to resemble cheesy 2000's game villains. That's a sentiment I find pretty consistent through the whole series. Every entry seems to be just cheesy enough to come off as self aware, while still keeping you interested in the fiction. I love it.
It is a masterpiece. For me it was like a movie you always wanted to watch. People should know that games are indeed about the story not always the action. The whole Hitman franchise is also a masterpiece and in this video you described it inside and out. Very well done mate ❤
I love how the story is told in the new trilogy, through many NPC dialogues. It's a shame so many people don't pay attention to the story when they play it.
I’ve been obsessed with the recent Hitman trilogy since 2020 and know the story, but am happy to watch this from start to finish because I love the videos you make. Thank you for making this.
I honestly love this series. It's so batsh-t crazy. Everything is over the top and caricatured, yet literally everyone in-world is so deadpan about it. It's like a slapstick cartoon brought to life. Somehow it balances the absurd humor of golden era comics with the heart and pathos of The Godfather. It's high art.
So sad Subject 6's story in this franchise was so short. He was the only friend of 47, Diana is as well, but she's different... she didn't go through the same torture.
nah she just has to live with the fact that one of the closest people to her is the same person who murdered both of her parents, right infront of her eyes, while visiting her dead brothers grave. its torture alright, just a different flavor.
@@Marcat-Markisa5he is. They’re just saying it’s sad his time in the hit man story is short even though he was 47’s only friend, and also the only child to escape the asylum with the memories of what happened. Lucas Grey(Subject 6) got a few cutscenes, so little it makes you wonder if they’ll make a game based on him pulling strings to “Take them all down” since he was grown before 47 ever crossed his path again.
replying to your intro with this not being a horror game: i would absolutely watch any kind of lore video you do, regardless of genre! your voice and the way you explain the stories are amazing. i love listening while i do chores or just relax. please keep up the amazing work youre doing!
Dude you don’t have to subject yourself to strictly horror based stories. Your videos, especially these long form ones, are one of the few things that help me get through my work days. I don’t watch your videos for horror, I watch your videos because you do a fantastic job explaining and covering whatever game you’re covering. And I really appreciate you for that. Hitman is one of my favorite series ever, and after watching/listening to this I came out knowing more than I thought I did! Great job!
"No one is untouchable" is such a good line to end the game with for Diana showing that she was clearly on team 47 the whole time. Fucking love this series, love the direction they've taken it. Cannot wait for more.
This is incredibly well done. As someone that is a huge fan of the series (played them since I was a kid, always needing to silent assassin every mission) this lore explanation should be considered the go to. I wasn't aware of the comics or some of the very niche games so good to see what from the lore those had. Thanks for putting this out!
Huuuuuuuuuuge congratulations for making this video. This looked like a huge script to handle but you nailed it. I loved all the Hitman games and revisiting the entire story like this brought back a lot of good memories. From agent 47's "birthplace" (Romania) I congratulate you!
This always makes you wonder how many other clones are still in the wild, that escaped the Asylum. Silent Assassin was my introduction to the series. Since then I've been HOOKED! My absolute favorite game series, makes you think on how to proceed to reach your targets, etc etc. I loved that newspaper bit they did in Blood Money too.
I love that you can see the efforts to keep up with current action and mystery genre pop culture throughout the games. The first one can almost be called action packed relative to the more stealthy considerations of the other games while the world of assassination has notes of the Craig Bond films, Mission Impossible and even a level that bears a resemblance to Knives Out.
There was something extremely special about the art direction and story for hitman 2. It perfected the vibe of the whole series, unlike any other after it.
@@casperryborg4869 No mate, that's called perspective. As I said, hitman 2 has my favorite vibe. Is it my favorite game in the series? Not even close. Hitman 2's atmosphere and style however are great. If you disagree, that is called a "difference in opinion". And it's perfectly healthy.
Tooootally agreed. The first 2 games had something very special and unique. I'm not even sure if they did that on purpose. That great dark and mysterious tone... Ah man, real classic. I would love to see the franchise reboot with the latest technology and the classic taste. Also removed funny stuff from the latest entries... Another example; people love latest Diana voice because it sounds vocally perfect. No man... the original one was so real. Imagine playing lee hong missions with original creepy vibe with rtx on....

I know recommendations to games can be cringy but with all the content you've done on similar kinds of games i'd love to you do a timeline on Chronos Before the Ashes and Remnant From the Ashes as they are linked to one another.
I’m crying. I’ve only seen the gameplay and never knew what the missions actually meant. It’s like reading a book for knowledge of a subject and not only forgetting why, but rather mindlessly neglecting the true meaning of why I pursued to read it. Same here with this game. A master piece in disguised like Agent 47.
The Silent Assassin is my favorite story of them all. the colorful graphics complimented with variety of locations across the world make it feel like you are in a James Bond movie. plus the story arch, it's quite similar to MGR, in the way where both 47 and Raiden look for redeption and humanity in themselves, but throughout their journey they instead find to accept and embrace their true nature
I've only recently followed you for horror recaps because I never had much interest playing them. I didn't know you also did non-horror related story summaries. I'd love more story recaps like this on a number of non horror related franchises. Are you a fan of Fallout lore by any chance, Harry?
@@GamingHarryYT it would be a godsend if you would try to recap any of the fallout games' lore. I know most of New Vegas and some of 3 and 4 but I never really had the time to know about Fallout 1 and 2's lore. Maybe do it in chronological order?
I never realised how in depth the story is for hitman. I have always tended to play the levels and not look into the lore so this has opened a new perspective for me when playing the game

This had to be SO much work! I'm so glad this exists! I'd probably never play all of them but feel lucky that I can still know what's going on. One thing is bugging me - what ever happened to Vicktoria? Could she make an appearance in the future?
Hitman Blood Money deserves a remake on the same level as Mafia 1, - graphics improvement - story elements - levels on the same level as the newer Hitman games to make the assassinations have more options A man can dream
I'm 1 minute and 10 seconds into this video, and it's already getting a like because you just encapsulated what playing the series was like perfectly. Codename 47 was a nightmare. A beautiful nightmare.

It was only a few weeks ago that I felt compelled to try and find a video like this about the Hitman series, but I couldn't find one at all! And lo and behold, today this pops up into my recommendations, and I'm so glad it did. An excellent video that delivered exactly what I was hoping for.
Thanks for this. I'm pretty sure before this video was released, you were literally the only human being on the planet who actually knew the Hitman story.
The hitman games were one of my best gaming times growing up, and I was looking for a storyline video, as the story is really interesting and detailed, but nobody made such a video. I'm so glad that I found this video now!
I love the "so far" series, perfect to catch up on any lore I missed while doing inane tasks and making me actually want to get em done. keep the quality content pumping 🙏
Unfortunately, I think IOI are done with Hitman for the foreseeable future. I am quite looking forward to seeing what they do with their James Bond game though.
There is so many good memories in this video. I would not play them again because they've aged a lot (and World of Assassination is really good), but Contracts and Blood Money crystalized the Hitman's unique take on stealth games and made Hitman a series I'll always follow.
Any game that has deep lore and a good story to it always deserves its own Lore and Order video. You do incredible work at explaining these fascinating stories in a way that even non-gamers can enjoy, so explain away!
Such an incredible story. I can beat if someone makes this exact story into a movie it will be a blockbuster because this had a better plot and characters than most hollywood movies
The biggest problem with these games is that you spend so little time as 47. Most of the time, you play as a mechanic, doctor, baresta, musician, and drug dealer. Could probably keep going, but you get it. Then, when you're ready to take out your target, they get taken out in some Rube Goldberg accident that seem to have been designed to kill them. It's so annoying.
I was missing a bit of Trivia, that Janus was mentioned in "The Final Test". The recreation of Soders own contract in 1979, where it was mentioned that your target "Jasper Knight" and his handler "Cilas Netzke" and the previously defected Soviet ambassador were all working for Janus. or that you could have found Agent Smith in Hokkaido, in a freezer unit.
@@JohnDoe-rj8nd they need to do it following these games to a tee tbh, the movies don’t really do that at all. They was just having fun with franchise’s name lol
Spoilers . . . The "inject the constant with the serum" ending feels the most natural because the game almost begs you to do it (back turned, serum in view on the table, "at least I die knowing who I am"). But isn't it a little too convenient, at least for a mastermind like the constant? The serum has an antidote, 47 himself received it, and the constant would surely know about that detail. It's nonsense for 47 to do anything but put a bullet in him right there.
Even if the constant has an antidote, what can he really do about it? Providence is already compromised, and he knows very well what 47 can do. If anything, him regaining his memories is likely more of a liability (which granted is a weakness some other organization in the future can abuse..)
it's good to see you expand to other games, never narrow yourself to specific genres. Looking forward to seeing what other games you do a deep dive into
I'm very happy that this video exists, I always loved this game series. The atmospheres, stories, action and the beautiful wonderful music by Jesper Kyd, and in the newer games. Hitman Silent Assassin and Blood money probably have to be my favorites for the soundtrack. It's cool seeing how the games evolved and changed over time, Great video Gaming harry!

While true, this often means the non-violent option was WORSE than violence, like mind-control, fate-worse-than-death, and etc.
Technically both of them are violent

@El saucio It's pretty simple once you get passed the clones, it's just One country racing to build war machines
I'm geniunly impressed, I've played through every Hitman game that was released, and I knew the story, but I've never been able to explain it coherently to anyone. Yet you managed to sum it all up in order perfectly. Great video!
The voice actors of World of Assassination are impeccable. Grey, Burnwood, Edwards and 47 of course are just fantastic.
I'm still bummed that they never cast David Bateson as 47 for the original 2007 Film.
@@paulstein8854 there has also been another one around 2015, which also starred a different actor and even goofier storyline.
factual.
47; calm and calculated, monotone, but you can always tell his emotion
Grey; sounds like he's had battle scars and sounds very similar to 47
Diana; very similar voice to 47
Edwards; nasally voice with obvious emotion, and VERY unique as a villain.
Agreed, lucas grey's voice is incredible
@@zeropoint7051
Edwards sounds completely emotionless like a robot
Love to anyone who reads this,
Happy Hunting.
Amazing video btw top notch
When did they speak of his opiate addiction I missed it

26:54 *[CODENAME 47]* is one of the most tragic characters of gaming. He's a professional, the best of the best in this world. He was literally designed to kill. As such, he can never really retire as a Silent Assassin and start a new life without endangering the normal people he's close to.
Father Vittorio is the proof of that fact and Agent 47 has no choice but to accept that fate. So rather than endanger his friend any longer, 47 gave up on trying to find *Absolution* and sticks to what he's good at. *_Assasinations. Contracts. And Blood Money..._*
You might say that he lives in a world of assassination he can't escape from.
Hitman: And Blood Money

Nah he just likes using the silverballers
Maybe, maybe, Hitman games take a new turn. 47 retires and Victoria becomes the next Protagonist.
He would have died anyway, being left on a frozen mountain
The death of personality was actually a medical procedure on Babylon 5. One time a murderer had his mind wiped and was re-educated as a monk. It came down to expediency.
It also leaves the potential to bring him back since it's been established that there's an antidote.
@lumoneko299 true, however hes on a train in the middle of nowhere probably surrounded by dozens of corpses of providence members. Ether also did lose their only antidote in Johannesburg, and probably wont be able to develop a new one considering the lab was blown up
I cant believe this was almost 2 hours of intense lore I just watched without noticing how much time has passed
good job
47 went from looking like a paper mache mask in the first couple of games, to looking like aging Voldemort in Absolution, to being a photo model level handsome in the latest trilogy. Now that's character development.
Exactly 💯💯 especially with agent 47
the thing that's a little weird is that they've de-aged him quite a bit.

Also, I just love Arthur Edwards last play:
"Why not erase your memory and become a thoughtless killing machine?"
"No."
"Well, I'm out of ideas..."
Maybe cause 47 was double crossed and manipulated so many times. But in the end he decides to move on.
To be fair to him, it's not like he could actually *fight* 47, especially given that all of his remaining guards were dead and/or no longer in the same post code.

I love it.

I thought Lucas Grey was “Subject Six”
@@Marcat-Markisa5he is. They’re just saying it’s sad his time in the hit man story is short even though he was 47’s only friend, and also the only child to escape the asylum with the memories of what happened. "No one is untouchable" is such a good line to end the game with for Diana showing that she was clearly on team 47 the whole time. Fucking love this series, love the direction they've taken it. Cannot wait for more.
My first ever game series completed.. the Hitman franchise will always have a special place in my heart
I just want to say. Blood Money is the best game of them. I miss that game so much. Made me fell in love with the franchise.
Absolution has a cool and unique vibe too its very different
That mate, is called "nostalgia". Simply because time passed and you miss the way things are, doesn't mean it was the peak of anything.

Tooootally agreed. The first 2 games had something very special and unique. I'm not even sure if they did that on purpose. That great dark and mysterious tone... Ah man, real classic.

This is genuinely the best video ever covering 47's lore. Thank you so much for this, I now have a proper lore video to link people who care.

If he was born in 1964, then by the time of Hitman 3, he's already 58 years old. Damn.
A perfect age to retire
In Hokkaido mission, the medical report about 47 say's he has perfect health condition and its very hard to acknowledge his actual age.
I always thought he had reduced aging because of the experiments he'd probably be 90 before he starts to look old
I read the Damnation book because it'd been lying about my brother's room and found it a pretty engaging read as a book by itself and as an expansion of the world. Good to see you include it.
Given the fact that the syringe is the only method showed with a cutscene at the end I think that's the true ending of hitman 3
This video is a masterpiece! I played all Hitmans up to Absolution, and can say this is the most comprehensive "guide" I ever seen.
