I have had this 028 AV Super that Dad bought new in 1982, just used it today on cutting up pines with cotton root rot.
Only issue was the clutch spring broke and several pull ropes broke over the years from kickback on startups .
Sooner or later the parts for this are non existent, do not even go with those Hong Kong Karbs.
I bought a MS291 a few years ago as the backup to go with my 021.
The 028AV is legendary.
Love them. Thanks for watching!
hello fellow Virginian-greetings from western part of the state-enjoyed and learned from your work, Stihl saw seems to be well thought out on the inside
Thanks for watching and reaching out. Yep I love stihl and husqvarna engineering too
Really enjoyed watching you fix this great old saw subbed
Thanks for the sub and for watching!!
That answered several questions I had so thumbs up and thanks.
Fantastic! Thanks for watching!
nice video buddy. the muffler mod helps reduce the carbon build up on the exhaust port as it allows the engine to breath easier , it also helps keeping the top end cool because there's less restriction which pro-longs the life of the saw . getting extra power is just a bonus. i give all mine subtle muffler mods to reduce carbon as carbon kills a saw and the more heavily restricted the saw the sooner that carbon is going to build up , flakes off on the induction stroke and score the piston . ;o)
Great tips. Thank you for sharing!
What is this "induction stroke" you speak of?
Great, thorough video. Good work once again
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good job on that old Stihl. Ran great after you worked your magic! Jimbo
Thanks so much for watching Jimbo!
awesome job ray
Thank you very much for watching!
I have a Stihl 020 avp my dad bought it in 1993 and I also have this one too. Great saws when you get them going but sometimes wouldn’t start for 10-20 mins
Yeah they can be cold blooded sometimes. I found that some of the aftermarket air filters don't choke fully also
Ya Ryan at wolf creek saw shop is good people
Yes they seem to know their stuff! Thanks for sharing and watching.
Took me a while to think of the work "scotch bright" just subbed, nice job I am trying to learn a bit so I can repair a couple also.
Thanks for the sub! Appreciate the comment and watching!
عندي واحد صنع سنة 1991 ومازال في حالة جيدة ، الصناعة الالمانية جيدة جدا ممتازة
I agree. Thanks for watching!!
I watched a guy use a piece of rope for a piston stop, pushing a bunch of it in the spark plug hole
Yes that works well
Ray of alltrades
Thank you
I have a 028wb. First start of the day is hell, but once it starts the first time it starts first pull after that. Ive noticed that if i pull the filter off and use my finger over the carb intake to choke it that it hits on the second pull and starts on the third. Guessing the choke flap in the filter isnt closing off well enough. Just wondering your opinion.
See if this is the problem Stihl 026 no start carb rebuild- aftermarket air filter cost me a lot of time! - Must see!

I have the same saw with the same exact issues. Would you let someone ship the powerhead to you for the same process as this video. Just can't get many people to work on these anymore. They just want you to buy a new one
Send me an email to roatrades@gmail.com

Thank you
I have the same saw 30 yrs old ??
Probably so. The old ones last!
You never put the tin spacer or shim on behind the bar with the one screw in it.
Did I forget it? Great catch! I’m sure I did after the video as it’s been used a lot since then and we didn’t notice it missing but I’m sure going to check. Thanks!!
@@RayofallTrades Well, apparently it doesn't make a hell of a lot of difference. I am replacing an oil pump on mine now.
I usually put them back in to help guide the oil and keep it cleaner but must have forgotten. Good luck on the oil pump. I appreciate your commenting!
you losed 2 screws at the start from the chainsaw
I did?
@@RayofallTrades yeah from the cover , from the oil pump and chainbreak
@@feel_my-_smookzz229that’s wild. Thanks! I need to rewatch the video!
