John Newman! I call that trick 'The Newman Rattlesnake', and EVERYTIME I hear it and watch it, it amazes me. Everyone was in rare form, but Newman owned this session. Just don't tell my future wife Amber Baker I said that...
I have seriously watched this 20x since discovering it a few months ago - my jaw is still on the floor - this is the most inspirational drum video on TH-cam - mega thumbs up
Whoaaaa, amazing: finally a factory where musicians are crafted, who all play and sound exactly the same !!! This will counter the shallowness of music industry !!
haha dude, there are only so many ways to do a fill at a chops session. I know for a fact that all these guys have different styles, tastes, and abilities. I mean, just watch how they individually approach the drum set, pretty different from player to player.
I'm here after 10 years, at the time I'd watch these guys without even understanding what it is they playing. I just loved drums so bad that I'd just sit and listen to them over and over. It's great to chance on this video again
Yes it's me, I like to tell the truth about all of this and especially when I see that this kind of drumming is going to a great place, I knoe it is because I still practice every day of my life and every time i discover how important is to recognize the talents other have. thanks for writing. - aa.
yupp straight to the top of my favourites nick smith is a beast for co producing this!! And the dude in the greyy!!! Everyone was amazing cant get enough!
At 3:00 Nick Smith tears it up with the fastest hands ever, YET, if you listen closely to the background track, he is actually playing to the melody in the most musical way. My fav of all these amazing drummers.
Mind blowing chops. But I think what they're missing is me taking my turn playing kick on the one and three and snare on the two and four followed by a crappy out of time fill. That would add some depth.
JP and the guy on the white DW kit had some the most interesting performances, them and then there was a couple others that just made it feel good. Shed was real with them.
yo the only reason anyone could hit the unlike button is if you know nothing about drums or if you mad cause you cant vibe like that. THIS VIDEO is a prime example of gods blessing to this earth and that blessing is good muscians
"Chops" is pretty much the title of this video... It's a shed session... All these people com paining there's no groove. The video is about experimenting with chops. They didn't get together and go "lets make a musical performance" they will have said "lets get together and have a shed session and go mental with some chops"... They can all play musically but that's not the aim of the game in this instance...
Brother in drums Aaron, I don't know personally but don't worry about those who wants to hate, let them be who they are you keep posting videos like this it will help drummers like myself to perfection the art of drumming and those who are beginning to learn can be an inspiration, respect and blessing your way man!!
Yeah, in all likelihood he has it there to dampen the snare. Makes sense since that snare is clearly tuned high as a kite, he may not dig that sound but clearly doesn't have time to switch out the snare or retune while everyone else is playing, so dampening is the easiest option. And he is probably one of those players that when he changes out his snare head there is one dime shaped spot worn all the way through the coating of the head to the clear because that is the only place he hits, so with that accuracy there is no risk of hitting his phone, haha.
Those pinstripe heads do sound great on those DW drums though! I've always liked them, ever since I had a set of Yamaha Recording Custom drums, way back in the day.
Awesome drummers all. Guy with a cellphone on his snare cracks me up. How are you playing that AND checking facebook? :-) Re: the comment at the end about "...there's no ego's here...", drummers don't have egos. Try this with 10 guitarists though... then you have a problem lol.
You guys look like a family of musicians. Thank you so much for putting this togehter, JP! I can see how much fun you all had and I come back here like every 2 days to hear that freaky piece of music. JUST AWESOME.
Yeahh it is a shed session...In a shed session, people don't come to play grooves. But if you're asking for one to play a groove, Amber Baker did that very well while keeping up the gospel chops.
I think that this is the exciting face of Modern Drumming! The array of spits, snarls, hisses, thucks, thoomps, shooms, whooshes, sparkles, pops and booms is dazzling!
I met B Macalin. one day just walking down market street in Wilmington de . he was doing a gig at the grand opera house. he's great man all these cats are going in . these videos got me into this type of shedding and chops. Eric Moore is a beast and garstka on vol 2. unreal bouvet ,hunter and darian javon.
Lol at the people who don't get this and can't understand how difficult and advanced at lot of this drumming is. This is a seriously impressive effort.
Look up any of the drummers in this video and you'll see them play "actual songs" as you put it. Of course that requires effort and you don't seem like the type of person to actually put forth any effort, for anything.
HAVE YOU SEEN JOJO MAYER, BENNY GREB, MIKE JOHNSON, JP, IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE STYLE THAT YOU LIKE THERE IS NOT SUCH A THING AS A BETTER DRUMMER, BECAUSE YOU MIGHT BE GOOD AT SOMETHING,BUT SOMEONE MIGHT BE BETTER AT SOMETHING ELSE
you're an ignorant piece of shit and if you think the faster and more obnoxious the chops are, the better, then you don't know what real drumming and percussion is. In a live setting those kind of chops wouldn't even be useful
I keep digging through TH-cam and finding endless ideas and new ways of approaching drums. I'm not gonna lie I'm stealing some of these ideas for my vids. inspiring!
Love seeing awesome drumming like this. It just goes to show that no matter how you play how technical you are, how fast you are or whatever that all of us are individual. I hate seeing people comment saying "Oh this guy is shit cause he can't play fast and only plays slow" etc. or whatever, because we are all INDIVIDUAL drummers, all human, and we all have a mind of our own and at the end of the day its not about being fast, technical or whatever it is about just about being YOU no matter what!
Me as a bass player, when i see this video. you all guys is so...so...so...so crazy i'm so amazed i think you will be a great drumer in the world thank you.Jesus bless you all.
I find it funny how people will come to this video just to hate and disrespect all these drummers. Do you guys not read the title? Its Berklee CHOPS. Berklee didnt teach these guys to play this way. Everyone in this video I know personally. And they are ALL successful drummers and musicians in the music industry right now. Playing for huge artists such as Brandy, Ciara, and more. While you guys are hating behind a computer screen, they are WORKING nationally and internationally. RESPECT.
Totally agree!.They all have some similarities and clear differences at the same time.Everyone here has his own way of drumming (technique,chops,sound...) and they all are definitely great drummers.
Every one of them is just killing it! Yeah, it's hard to listen to 20 minutes of it. But it's just due to the sensory overload. I always felt the same way coming out of a Chick Corea concert. Congrats to all of these drummers, and best of luck.
I could watch this over and over. The fucking talent. The fucking interpretation. That's what this is about man, these drummers laying down beats and sharing ideas. It's so sick. I want an MP3.
Amber Baker is by far the most relaxed - she takes her time and that is refreshing in 21 minutes of linear fills. Jonathan Newman's work on the hats was pretty damn cool. Plus he was rocking a Hammerax Crash Course stack.
Dude wearin the scarf is killin the entire league with his hi-hat game
I was thinking the same thing lol
lmao
Some of the best chops are derived from the simplest concepts x'D
@@EthanHGray Well said bro
John Newman! I call that trick 'The Newman Rattlesnake', and EVERYTIME I hear it and watch it, it amazes me. Everyone was in rare form, but Newman owned this session. Just don't tell my future wife Amber Baker I said that...
I've never made it past the first 10 minutes of this video because I keep rewinding and watching the amazing moments again and again. LOL
Frank Fluker is the man! his playing style is like a balance between fast, technical chops and musicality, most under rated!!1
The 228 people who disliked this are high school band directors.
cristianthegr8 exactly
Or HS drummers that know they will never set foot on that campus.
or people who don't like this style
LMFAOO
And probably know more about music than you :/ but Yeah maby youre right😂

Lets not forget that nick smith is the best, outrageous drummer in this video.
I love how each drummer had their own style yet let them all flow so smoothly. That takes skill. Awesome job, JP and all!
3:58 ..... I was watching the whole thing in awe
Then I was awestruck with manliness.
I'm here after 10 years, at the time I'd watch these guys without even understanding what it is they playing. I just loved drums so bad that I'd just sit and listen to them over and over. It's great to chance on this video again

Damn I would have destroyed that iPhone sitting on the snare.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I noticed that Berklee breeds enthusiastic drummers
I wish they'd chosen a different backing track, I would have enjoyed more of this if I could hear what was going on
playingforbritain i think it just wasn’t mixed right
Mind blowing chops. But I think what they're missing is me taking my turn playing kick on the one and three and snare on the two and four followed by a crappy out of time fill. That would add some depth.
Listening to drums really helps me work on...my work. Love it.
I don't understand the haters out there. I've been a drummer for over 35 years and I can appreciate the chops in each and every player on this video.
literally everybody in this video has a DW kit. Lmao
They rented the kita i guess
DW is the most popular drum brand in the US.
Sean Wright is probably one of the greatest drummers ive ever seen. all of these guys (and girl, for Amber) are awesome. Go Berklee students! \m/
amber got that feel
yes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JP and the guy on the white DW kit had some the most interesting performances, them and then there was a couple others that just made it feel good. Shed was real with them.
Is Berklee like the Gospel Chop central?
youre crazy clearly. hope you know that. lmao

please give me the download link for this track! :p
I cried watching all of this God will take me there in 6 months!
Is this guy at 7:05 heaving his phone on the snare while playing? :-)
+76boromir He has guts to put a phone on the snare while playing fast
Yeah, in all likelihood he has it there to dampen the snare. Makes sense since that snare is clearly tuned high as a kite, he may not dig that sound but clearly doesn't have time to switch out the snare or retune while everyone else is playing, so dampening is the easiest option. it mutes the drum almost like havin a wallet or something else on the head of a drum
I’m still watching
Great players. I'm wondering though...do you get a DW kit when you sign up there are Berklee?
Those pinstripe heads do sound great on those DW drums though! I've always liked them, ever since I had a set of Yamaha Recording Custom drums, way back in the day.
That would be awesome... But JP endorses DW, so he probably got a few from them for the video
I've watched this whole clip about 5 times already this morning. These drummers saved my day! WOW!!!! :)
Berklee. The land where everyone can afford full DW sets. Also JP lives a lot closer to me that I ever would have thought
The reason DW kits cost so much is so they can afford to give a dozen or so kits to Berklee and sponsor every broke ass drummer out there.
That was sooo much fun....Beautiful new generation of drumnastics coming up...Really enjoyed that.
Awesome drummers all. Guy with a cellphone on his snare cracks me up. How are you playing that AND checking facebook? :-)
Re: the comment at the end about "...there's no ego's here...", drummers don't have egos. Try this with 10 guitarists though... then you have a problem lol.
TheOriginalCoda If I remember correctly, Buddy Rich had quite an ego. Then again, I guess that's reasonable when you ARE the best.
These. Shed. Drummers. Are off the. Hook. Wow I think that. It would be nice to see. Shed Drummers on. Stage
Nick Smith: Powerhouse...enough said.
A year later and I still can't stay away from this video. I love you guys. So talented.
The guy with the scarf seems like a little lvl10 in front of a group of drummers lvl 1000. Nick Smith is a beast!
NAH MAN JON IS CRAZY WITH THE STICKS! JUST KEPT IT COOL HERE LOL
this is a classic now I feel old
11:38 He's getting a phone call
You guys look like a family of musicians. Thank you so much for putting this togehter, JP! I can see how much fun you all had and I come back here like every 2 days to hear that freaky piece of music. JUST AWESOME.
At the beginning of this video I was all like "this is sweet!!!" By minute 6 i was like "could someone please play a groove!!!"
It's a shed session man...

If you give a room full of drummers an infinite amount of time of constant playing, they will eventually play every possible beat.
I met B Macalin. one day just walking down market street in Wilmington de . he was doing a gig at the grand opera house. he's great man all these cats are going in . these videos got me into this type of shedding and chops. Do they only teach one style at Berklee? This whole thing literally sounds like one drummer playing, I can't tell any of you apart.
Flux Mulder you clearly not listening.. open them ears Bro
@@smith4sid I think he is right.
Don’t be ignorant comment on stuff you know nothing about! It’s a SHED. Relax.
Bwaaah I can't stop watching this video I keep on coming back over and over
aaaaand i should quit playing drums
videos like this are no reason to quit, but to keep practicing harder!
use this as motivation! don't get frustrated...
everyone playing in this video prob said the same when they first heard buddy solo.
Practice my friend, just practice and you'll be surprised ;)
Lol at the people who don't get this and can't understand how difficult and advanced at lot of this drumming is. This is a seriously impressive effort.
13:29 newman all day!
I love the song of this shed, it's just crazyly sensational, those sinths are killass!!
I'd like to hear them play actual songs with actual dynamics. Riff jockeys are a dime a dozen.
Hahaha k bro
I think you got it backwards. Let me see you play like this, Ringo. Because Ringo is the one who is a dime a dozen.
Look up any of the drummers in this video and you'll see them play "actual songs" as you put it. Of course that requires effort and you don't seem like the type of person to actually put forth any effort, for anything.
JP and Nick Smith incredible...
too many gospel chops
Simply tomorrow's drummers, each had a distinct element that had their own personality written all over it.
Black drummers > White drummers
Singing, dancing, drumming, or anything for that matter is a matter of skill, not race.
I see the world got a new member of the FIC. I'm sure over time you'll become the president of the Fucking Idiot Club.
you're an ignorant piece of shit and if you think the faster and more obnoxious the chops are, the better, then you don't know what real drumming and percussion is. In a live setting those kind of chops wouldn't even be useful
hey guys, guess what? Black drummers > White drummers
I keep digging through TH-cam and finding endless ideas and new ways of approaching drums. I'm not gonna lie I'm stealing some of these ideas for my vids. inspiring!
This is a great compilation of drummers, i'm a drummer myself and all i can say is: You never stop learning from other great drummers, great post!!!
This is just super fun! I love watching people play with so much joy. Great job!
Superb Chops Guys!!! Keep The Fires Burning & Those Wheels Turning!! My Girl is right there!!! Yeah
these drums all sound so good. THESE TOMS
Great job!! Y'all are very talented. Everyone is a beast
Real talk my favorite clip in a loooooong time blessings!!!
you said it all. these guys deserve our respect and admiration. nice work they did.
Just watched the whole thing. I don't think I'll be able to get that backing tune out of my head for a couple of days, now.
I think this is the best drum video I have ever seen in my whole entire life aaawwweeesssooommmeee

Dude this video never gets old - 2020 June 3rd.
I don't care what you all may say, the cats are hitting. Beautiful!!
To think I'm gonna be up there wit these guys in January! Freakin awesome!
Totally agree!.They all have some similarities and clear differences at the same time.Everyone here has his own way of drumming (technique,chops,sound...) and they all are definitely great drummers.
Good demostration of what is competition , almost all trying to impress and playing as faster as they can !
Everything sounds lovely. And Berklee have certainly taught them how to play fortissimo very well.
The kid with the white, sparkle kit is OWNING!!!!
Everybody was great..they represent Berklee well...hopefully tht will be me next year
This really makes me wanna play drum more than ever knowing half of this is possible. So good. Learned a lot from this video
This vid makes me want to go back to pinstripes after all these years......they sound fantastic!
yes sir...
This is an absolutely fabulous video to learn from. Break down the chops and apply them to your own kit. I've found some really interesting grooves.
wow so many different style... i love .. its a very inspiring video.. thank you
Nice sound at 5:18-5:30. Toms are tuned well and I'm digging the use of space that gives the sounds a chance to breathe...
JP... You are on a whole different level than these other dudes.
Awesome shed! Great players from all over! Imagine if Matt was there as a guest.
that dude in the black shirt is killing it!!
Every one of them is just killing it! Yeah, it's hard to listen to 20 minutes of it. But it's just due to the sensory overload. I always felt the same way coming out of a Chick Corea concert. Congrats to all of these drummers, and best of luck.
My respect and admiration for Bill Stewart increased exponentially!
You figure it out.
Sean always going hard on them highhats! LOVE IT!
this is insane! awesome amount of talent in a room!
SERIOUSLY DOPE!!!!
Such a perfect song to shed over.
they went to school for this . they are all good. great Shed.
Dude at the end put it best,, they're all just having fun doing what they love to do.. nuff said

Killer vid!! So much frikkin talent in one room. I'm thinking me watching is not very clever 🤦♂️🍻✌️
Great video also!!!! You guys are some sick drummers. You should post that track I'd like to play to it!
