Me, I've been watching this since 2008 off and on. This video first introduced me to Tony Royster. I already knew of Thomas Pridgen when be used to play for the GMWA Youth Mass Choir back in the late 90s and early 2000s.
I think people say the black comment because in some cases white players had a slightly better upbringing therefore more lessons or better equipment and fewer social obstacles but not in every case for sure. My feeling is there are amazing white players but as a drummer with miles under my belt, when I listen to black drummers there is something just a little more natural and a little more fluid and frankly, mother ripping awesomeness in terms of rythym, timing and total over all congruity. I'm white so shoot me. But I'm right.
These guys were brought up playing music in church. That has to be a great foundation as a musician, learning to play with others at a young age like that.
Reply to howser: There are so many drummers in this world that you haven't seen or heard, it is foolish to make such a blanket statement as you have. Also, I guarantee that there are drummers, whereby just hearing the audio, you couldn't determine their race. Enjoy the drumming and don't feel the need to separate people by race.
2 of the best in the world; and this is what it looks like! Freedom still resides in America and there names are Tony and Thomas! May I have some lessons please.... Beyond words....
I'm still learning licks from this video! I love coming back to listen to the exchange. Personally I think Tony won this one, but it was great all around!
for guys out there talking about pocket.....this is a shed.. sheds are for musicians to come together and share licks drum fills and different styles... being in the pocket would make the sheds dry and compressed... sheds actually builds and constructs your pocket.... this is awesome for two drum stars to come together in a humble matter and put it all out there
After highschool I made it a mission to watch this, now i’m 27 watching it in 2022. Time truly flies 😢 I wish musicians would come back to this Channel and shed.
Royster playing like Pridgen doesn’t belong next to him. The aggression and precision and responses to his turn is godly. Meanwhile Pridgen gracefully enjoys the moment. A very interesting dynamic.
I'm so happy this video is still up here, I can't tell you how many times I watched this with my buddies back in high school. It was deff the golden era of youtube for drummers!
This video changed the entire course of drumming lmao I remember watching this in 2006 in my middle schools computer labv& having my mind completely shattered
at 0:17 he did his thing in the beginning. and i like the foot work and quick ad-libs also the gift that God has blessed them with and the hard work and practice that was giving proves you can do anything but fail. Glory to God!
You can tell thomas loves what hes doing, He always has that Grin on his face and what makes it even better, He is one of the most badass drummers ever
Tony is a machine and can do things regular humans just can't do, but Thomas totally let's himself get carried away by the music and the feeling, and to me, that is just more fun to watch and listen to. Both are brilliant.
Pridgen's behind-the-beat flow is f--ing insane and so dope. Royster is of course insanely good but Pridgen always stood out to me in this video. Which by the way is an all time classic that I favorited 10 years ago.
These BLESSED Guys Were Finomally Great On Drums...let's also give it up To The Backcourt Musicians...Every Time U C This Video 📹 That "Funky Melodic Groove "Sticks In Your Head🥳😎💜💯💥💣🙏.
It's called a SHED. That's when musicians get together to showcase, share, inspire, push and fellowship through music and what they learned. Chops play a major part in sheds. So, to downplay these phenomenal drummers because they do a lot of chops that you can't, only means you have missed the whole purpose of watching this video.
This is called a DRUM SHED. They're literally incorporating syncopated and subdivided licks and trying to fit it in measures as creatively as they can. I can see the organization. But I feel like it would maybe take years of experience to see that in this video. Even the "off-beat" fills and grooves they do. This is real art to me.
yo, you gotta be outta your mind or just a hater to dislike this shed..... its a shed, practice.... this has gotta be one to the greatest sheds ever..... two great drummers, hands down!!!

It's been awhile and this still got my mind blown 🤯

Am I The Only One Who Watches This To Listen To The Chords? Not To Take Away From Tony & Thomas In Any Way.

I Don't Know. I'd Like To Find Out For Myself.
Not At All Lol I Actually Like The Keyboards Voicing A Lot
I was stationed at Ft Stewart, GA next to Hinesvlle, GA. I never knew there was a rising star in the neighborhood!!!

Royster was taught and mentored by Dennis Chambers - You cant get a much better foundation than that, equality aside!
tolvarr super tight snare = black to me.
***** Think music, not race. Anyone can have a super tight snare or super loose snare. Many, many drummers out there.
Much respect for Royster's maturity!
This Dvd changed my whole musical journey thank you Gospel Chops
You are forever welcome. We appreciate your support. 🖤💪🏾

Ok thanks but who is the group? And is there a whole clip? Sounds like Kenya Boyd and her sisters. Not sure though.
At 7:40 magic is happening, I do not simply understand how anyone can come up with such a beat! Truly amazing...

One Of the most GREATEST 9 Minuets of my life
Maaan, this is such a classic clip. It will never get old.

I wish musicians would come back to this Channel and shed.
Its not what is in your skin its all about whats with in. these brothers are awesome
Thomas's snare tuning is a heaven
Fun fact, Thomas is playing on Eric Moore set.
I swear that intro is so classic if you've been watching gospel chops you'll know there is no better intro
Came back here in 2020 just to hear it again
Lol Eric Moore at 3:23
Yeah i was like what the?? Three beasts of drumming! I like Eric Moore the best, but that's just me..
That was the most hype day of church in history. People decided to stop coming after that because it just wasn't the same.
There's no better in Drumming
Everyone Has their own Speed and Style
Royster playing like Pridgen doesn’t belong next to him. The aggression and precision and responses to his turn is godly. Meanwhile Pridgen gracefully enjoys the moment. A very interesting dynamic.
You can tell Tony put a lot of work in to making both his hands soooo even.
Don't think I've ever seen tony work quite this hard alone or with another drummer. Different styles equal talent.
I'm so happy this video is still up here, I can't tell you how many times I watched this with my buddies back in high school. It was deff the golden era of youtube for drummers!
Thank you Gospel Chops!
This video really changed my life .. remember watching this like 5 years ago
2024 and this still never gets old IJS

Dude walks out the room at 6:01 like "I need to go practice"
Hahahahaha he like forget this im outta here.

trust me bro tony is feeling the rythem real strong.
i think thomas has the best sounding snare ever. that opening roll gives me chills...
The greatest drum shed ever
I am still watching now in 2021
They need to update do another video for 2020
Does anyone know if the backing track for this is available anywhere?
Seems like it´s just a simple improvised melody so Thomas and Tony could play to it.
It isnt but you can copy it if you play instruments
Bassist and Keys infinitely solid ...
Slept on comment.
Dave Jackson on keys and Marcus Phillips on bass.
Exactly. That groove is ridiculous
i’m pretty sure the guy on keys is also a serious drummer
@@jentryhaskins9189 didn’t know that
That's nostalgic 😭❤️❤️❤️
They are both beast's!!! I'm really feelings Thomas Pridgen in this video.
This never gets old!!!
Amen bro
TONY THE MAN FLAT OUT MUCH RESPECT YOU DO YO THANG BRO.
the greatest drummers on this planet are the gospel drummers
josé perez Pridgen and Roysters number them one
Yes sir ur right
You have to add Calvin Rodgers and Chris Coleman to this discussion of greatest gospel drummers or just drummers period.
David Rodgers dude, chris coleman is a beast!!! he is the best tho!!!

2022 and I still love this 😂 most def timeless
2023 desde Honduras!
Deslicioso!
When u hit a certain level the only way to tell who's the best is by seeing who can play the most styles
Versatility is king
Love these two .... never get tired of listening...
they both have passion but pridgen plays with his heart while tony lays with his brain to completely different styles both amazing
Been On This For A Long Time..💯💯

The people you are having to say that to, are the new non church folks.
I would love to see these two in a shed like this again. 11 years it would be interesting...

Some people just don't understand music that's deeper than the surface.
Dr. Billiam It's okay. It takes time for a drummer to see that. They just have to build up their knowledge on drumming.
Brandon Thomas Right on dude
Mario Jelev you know !! I'm sure you do lol
Brandon Thomas I kinda get what you mean man :-)
Tony's Very Good... Congratulation
