its called the super sophisticated 37th note J.P. Bouvet single stroke drum roll, not to be confused with the super sophisticated 67th note J.P. Bouvet single stroke drum roll at half speed. They both have different feels, but I can see where you may mistake the fill for another one.
i've been watching matty 4 quite a while. dudes better watch out for him. mark my words, he is that next dude. he's leagues ahead of his peers. i got that same feeling when i first saw ron back in the day. cats are already checking for him and he probably doesn't know it yet.
Try not to get worked up, have a sense of humor. I've never heard anyone call me cocky or arrogant who personally knows me. Sorry you don't like my playing. 3:56 was one of my favorite parts, theres so serious subdividing going on there. Stay positive!! Peace! -Matt
3:56 was tasty AF! Hell yea 🍻Dude, love your playing, concepts, etc... however, you make me want to give up playing 😆kidding, but seriously INSANE man... Keep doing what you do, look at that lil guy from 11 years ago. Man, we're all getting OLD
These videos are kinda like reality checks... Anchors that keeps you grounded and makes you aware of your skill level... Basically a reference track of things that you can be good at... Gotta go back to the kit... Thank god i watched this
Classic video right here... this one has been an inspiration for me especially lately since getting into carnatic music. It's crazy how much similarity you can hear between these drummers and Indian mridangam players.
Matt was a gospel drummer by heart despite his amazing fusion playing right now. So much talent in this video. Different prodigies with one goal... to play drums. 10 yrs later and this still rocks!
Yooooooooooooooooooooo. I remember watching this back in the day when I was in school. I DID NOT REALIZE THIS WAS YOU ON DRUMS MATT. Hahahaha this is crazy, and you were definitely one of my favs in this series, and still one of my favs TODAY. I'm blown away. It's amazing and inspiring to see you go from this to your current platform now. You are a monster. Keep choppin :)
This is a great video, everybody did a great job! I like the part with Darion Ja'Von the most, 'cause he listens to the music and adapts to that, instead of just showing what he is all capable of! Props
Now that's what I'm talking about to myself... I gotta learn to play like those guys... I really like this style! Chops all the modern way! :D That's amazing!
Wifebeater Matt needs to make a comeback! He's the mythological God of Time (and what better mythological god than one that keeps time by drumming for the mortals. He had the temperament back then when this video was made, but now he has the swole physique! Awaken Wifebeater Matt! And show us all how much more ultra unified those unisons are!
I really like Matt Garska chops, like that explosion and feel. No kidding, all those drummers are great and have something to offer. A lot of inspiration, NOT boring and NOT repetitive at all. That exactly the total opposite reality, lot of stuff, chops, and different ideas.
I really enjoyed watching this shed....so many styles, different energies an techniques on display. A lot of room to grow but a lot of skill as well. Keep up the good work guys!
Some awesome playing on here man. Makes me want to go through the Berklee drum set performance program one more time! I've still got a lot of growing yet to do!
matt 3:56 was great you're totally right the intensity and complexity of those subdivisions was off the charts but it was bellied by the smoothness and relative ease you played them with
Barren Savant i don’t agree. Essentially the great jazz legends you named all play the same genre and style. Just as these gospel chop drummers do. The legends have a unique sound thats what you recognize them for person per person. But who says that all chops sound the same? No they don’t. Each gospel chop drummer has his own style as well just like the old cats. In this video Matt garstka had a very unique way of phrasing, if you would have opened your ears and actually would have wanted to hear, you could have heard that. Stop living in the past too much to a point where you start to ignore what’s new. These new cats are just as unique as the old cats individually, you just have to open your ears for it to hear that. Good day
i know so many of these cats! 1:44 J.P Bouvet won the Guitar Center Drumoff this year (2011) 3:25 Sean Wright - Black and Yellow Live Arr. plus Super Bass Live Arr. (both dope) and Darion Ja'Von - Bottoms Up Live Arr. Firework and E.T live arr.(all 3 dope) Yaahn Hunter Jr - Love Like Crazy Shed(is crazy). i watched this a couple years back and had NO idea who these cats were. It's crazy how far they all have come
@djschrum We were all in the same room, and it was recorded all the way through. we all know eachother and our vibe is not competitive, its just fun. @travinhorton Me(Matt Garstka) and Yaahn Hunter created this "song" solely for the purpose of choping over it.lol @162348975 I dont even have to look at your profile, if you think the majority is out of time your clearly not a drummer, or at least not a good one.
I'm going to be shedding to this song with my friend and my cousin at church for the talent show on Sunday. Just hope It goes well little nervous thpugh cause I ain't been on stage in so long. still practicing though.
Darion Ja'Von (the first drummer) just killed it. By far the most tasteful use of chops and groove. Awesome job. Just listen from 0:58 to 1:24...holy crap. Some of the others seemed like it was a speed contest auditioning for Blink 182. All were impressive. Oh, and mad props out to the Sabian crash cymbal. It was the star of the video.
just bought the track!!! ABSOLUTELY F#$%CKING LOVE IT!!! not only is it one of my favorite tracks to practice to, but it is a dope ambient track by itself... please make more!!! PLEASE MAKE MORE TRACKS TO PLAY ALONG TO.. I WILL BUY ALL OF THEM!!!
Amazing foot work in the beginning. When you're not bearing the beater in the head I'm having an eargasm from the "whoop" sound as the beater gets pulled off the head.
4:55 my favorite moment. Drummer is like "Well...I´ll just throw in one of my standard lick while I adjust this thingy over here....Yup! all done. no one noticed; on with the drumming awesomeness" ha ha ha! :-)
yo this is soo goood all the Drummers held the pocket down and really stay on beat with the track!!... you don't find to many Drummers that do that on songs like this or any Tracks really??!!!
i die laughing EVERY time i replay 3:52. like he is just so... off in his own world of subdivision, and he's trying SO hard to pull it back into a fill into the downbeat, and it just doesn't happen for him mentally and it's HILARIOUS because he doesn't care and he knows other drummers won't either.
yo i saw JP and i was like why does he look so familiar.. then i was like ohhh he won the GC drum off! haha but all the drummers in this video have so mad talent. very nice video!
I like this...I think it's better to see this then all of them in the room at the same time...This way each player can experess themselves the way they want too without the others in the room influenceing them.
13 years ago.. where has the time gone. Love goin' back to these old relics.
YES SIRRRR this video used to hype me up so much back when I used to play
Still hypes me up tho. I see something new everytime i watch it!@@michaeldelgado93
@@michaeldelgado93 Indeed, that's why we are still here!

aka smakckin' the tubs
that Darion Ja'Von section at the beginning is still the most exciting for me. pocketed and very well controlled!!
i've been watching matty 4 quite a while. dudes better watch out for him. mark my words, he is that next dude. he's leagues ahead of his peers. i got that same feeling when i first saw ron back in the day. cats are already checking for him and he probably doesn't know it yet.
Well, here we are! Matt's practically one of the greats now, deservedly 🙏

can you tell me what to type in to get it, been unable to purchase!!!
Matt Garstka is this track still available
That's all you have to say for yourself on this track?
Try not to get worked up, have a sense of humor. I've never heard anyone call me cocky or arrogant who personally knows me. Sorry you don't like my playing. 3:56 was one of my favorite parts, theres so serious subdividing going on there.

These videos are kinda like reality checks... Anchors that keeps you grounded and makes you aware of your skill level... Basically a reference track of things that you can be good at... Gotta go back to the kit... Thank god i watched this
Garstka is such a beast....I absolutely love watching him play. Great fluidity and great creativity! Also a joy watching Sean Wright
The Phrase that Garstka starts at 3:56 is brilliant
I've been listening to this for a while and this the best song from berklee I've ever heard
It's not really a song more of a track
Classic video right here... this one has been an inspiration for me especially lately since getting into carnatic music. It's crazy how much similarity you can hear between these drummers and Indian mridangam players.
Im digging what the first guy's laying down so far. JP Bouvet is also a legend. But Matt's just too damn good for words.
Matt was a gospel drummer by heart despite his amazing fusion playing right now. So much talent in this video. Different prodigies with one goal... to play drums. 10 yrs later and this still rocks!
I just want yall to know that this track makes me wanna play drums...like badly! Awesome work on the production!

Yaahn's part at 6:25 and on was the most artistic style i heard in this video...he killed it
Jvon is the truth. This dude is so tasteful. Placement and timing is crazy
The future of amazing percussion is in good hands(& sticks) with these drummers. Absolutely STELLAR playing and musicianship. Wicked Cool Stuff!!
Now that's what I'm talking about to myself... I gotta learn to play like those guys... I really like this style!
Chops all the modern way! :D That's amazing!
The official technical name for it is The Gospel Drummer Snare Drum Roll. I LOVE THAT ROLL!!
INCREDIBLE INCREDIBLE INCREDIBLE. The track is brilliant and all of the drummers are phenomenal. Great job boys!
Berklee chops shed session 1 rolls right off the tongue

Chesley Allen does a killing version of this too. Think it's called "cheese berklee track".
Oh yeah! These guys kill it, but Chesley's version is my favorite.

I mean it's a shed meaning you can input anything as a way to share ideas within and with other drummers
I think you all did your thing man, everyone always has opinions instead of just enjoying shit these days...good luck to you all
