Have to agree with the OP. I don't see that stadium getting built al with all the factors working against it. First of all, they don't seem to have the money to build it. Then on top of that is on an 8-9 acre parcel of land? That's not how current MLB teams operate when considering new stadiums. They want a lot of surrounding land to build business districts to maximize profits. The A's can't do this with this land. It would make much more sense to build it elsewhere in Vegas just due to this.
All the while Utah is breathing down the neck of any MLB relocation with 900 million of public funding already allocated for an MLB team. A site to build a new stadium with over 100 acres perfect to build a business/sports district around. Easy access public transportation that goes right to the site already. Also an ownership group already ready to make the purchase. I think this becomes another Expos/Arizona Coyotes situation. MLB buys the team and sells them. Maybe it's to a different Vegas ownership group with a different idea. All I know is that rendering for the Sydney Opera House in Vegas looks so Mickey Mouse. The capacity is a joke too. FWIW, TB faces a different issue. Building in St Pete is not going to change anything with their current issues. MLB in Florida just hasn't worked.

I will always love Mt. Davis. It's the only thing worth mentioning about the stadium. When the Coliseum is demolished they need to save Mt. Davis. It should either go on top of the new stadium and be proudly displayed as a unique spire or be sent to a museum. That thing deserves national protection. Mexico City is over 7300 ft above sea level - over 2000 feet higher than Denver. Pitchers will cower in terror over the HR’s and extra base hits they will give up!!! With normal OF dimensions, it’ll be a HR nightmare. If they move fences back to compensate, it’ll be a doubles, triples, and maybe even inside-the-park HR nightmare. Remember when the Rockies still played at Mile High and one of the power alleys was 390 ft? They still had very high scoring games!

The tax and spend government is not conducive to a healthy business environment. If MLB or a new owner took over the A's they would not keep in Oakland. They would move it to another city. It is not just London in the UK, but with regular season games in Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Australia, and even China. Considering the long flights involved, the MLB teams desire to play a three or four game series abroad as the home team maybe in more than one of these venues. MLB teams wish to have that option and not be tied down to their minimum full season leases. Eight out of Eighty-one home games is not too much to ask, seventy-three homes games is still a lot of games. All of these other nations baseball fans desire regular season games that count, not exhibition games that don't... Of course, instead of eight home games, maybe three or four home games would make a great compromise for ALL of the MLB teams, not just the Las Vegas A's... As I recall London desired a certain team, but that team didn't desire to break their lease... You can't spread baseball worldwide with teams tied down to full regular season leases...

There's no city in the US that makes sense for the A's to play "home games" in that isn't their own stadium besides Reno if they're trying to build a local and statewide fanbase.
DG is right that the only other thing that really makes sense is international games. I think you'd have to go big in this case and do something that's gambling themed along with Las Vegas. So in that sense, something like Macau comes to mind for me.
