    FYI Just did the brakes on my Mercedes and I found "speed bleeder valves" that have one way check valves built into them. Made changing the brake fluid so easy. Highly recommend them.

      I use some of them made by a german company called ‚Stahlbus‘. I am not quite sure, if they are common in the U.S., but they help me a lot in the maintenance of my bikes. For the highest needs, some sizes are available in titanium, too.

    This series will be super interesting.
    That plastic fuel tank cover is used on all T6 cars not only Cs, my 1962 T6B Karmann Coupé has it also. I've had a similar dual brake circuit conversion done to the car using a later VW master cylinder that fits right in. Having that kind of reservoar would be nice, now have it on top of the master cylinder and it is a pain checking the level. Now going for one of the last drives this season before winter comes here in Scandinavia.

    Hi Franny, once again another great video.
    I plan to do this shortly to my 64C after a long restoration period and this will definitely make the process easier to do.
    I was a little concerned with regards to the metal flared pipes that simply push into the rubber grommets on the master cylinder on my car.
    It just seems like it is loose and could pop out with road vibration, seeing you place yours in the same manner gives a little more confidence that this is normal. Just seems a little odd though that these are not more secured.

      That is a great question actually... This will be our next project after the 308. I'm not sure but it may be Stoddard or Sierra. I want the pads with a little extra material on them. I would like to find some higher quality wheel cylinders too.

  • @redfalcon4469

    Some cars specify only dot3, if you put in them dot 4 you will have rubbers degrading and leaking !

    • @HeidiandFranny
      @HeidiandFranny  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you thinking of DOT5 or 5.1? Those are a big no no. The fluid I used specifies it is for all DOT3 and 4, just not for brake systems that use mineral oil.

  • @adamdavies2670
    @adamdavies2670 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't laugh, but: when you're draining the old brake fluid it appears to be amber colored in the tube yet blue in the bottle. And Franny, I think you even remarked on the dark color of the old fluid? Is the tube itself amber colored or is something mysterious happening?

    • @HeidiandFranny
      @HeidiandFranny  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is really dark huh... The tube is silicone so pretty opaque. My guess is that with how much is in the bottle it just looks darker and the camera messed with the color a little. Ohhh the brakes on that car...

    It is so hard to find any information on these 356c disc brake emergency brake systems...but I am down to just figuring out how the emergency cable mounts to the bump stop bracket...I thought is was a grommet...but the grommet appears to be to the dust cover. If you or anyone could help with pictures or just simple information on how it mounts at that location...seems to have a hole there and the cable end as an indent...hoping someone can help, would greatly appreciate it.

    • @HeidiandFranny
      @HeidiandFranny  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have the Porsche Shop Manual for the C cars? Is there not enough info there? Also there the Elfrink as well. You might try posting your question to the 356 Registry forum. Those guys know everything...

  • @johna1160
    @johna1160 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Had no idea any auto manufacturer was using "slip" fittings for hydraulic brake lines into the master cylinder, let alone a German one. What possible reason could they have had not to use threaded/flared fittings? Seems like something out of the 1930's.

    • @HeidiandFranny
      @HeidiandFranny  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess there is hardly any real pressure... I think this is possibly an aftermarket master cylinder (dual circuit), but the C cars do have a remote res so they must have a line down. I did see that grommet labeled for C cars. Oh, that was the reason I didn't try to pressurize it ;)
