SO MUCH EMOTIONAL MANIPULATION! | Awful MLM Posts

  • Hello lovelies! Firstly, a warning: this video features MLM reps being wildly inappropriate about several things: BLM, infant loss, there's brief mention of weight loss and even a woman using her faith to increase her downline. It's a wild one. If that might be upsetting to you, please skip parts, dodge the whole episode, whatever you need to be comfortable.
Secondly, I frustratingly noticed in editing several places in which I said 'women' where I should really have said 'people', for which I apologise.
This was a more casual recording, no script or notes, just skimming through some wild hun posts and giving my opinions. I think this style has it's plus points as well as drawbacks, so I'd be glad to know what you thought of it!

I can't get over the can't be allergic to natural things. Majority of things that people react to at the anaphylaxis level are 'real' foods. I get hay fever and have asthma, all sorts of pollens and grasses set that off. I have also tested positive to food allergies but am fortunate enough that they are all at a really low level. To round that off I eat FODMAP to not set off my digestive system (medically advised). For that mother to say that a scent can't be an allergen because it is natural is so much crap I don't know where to begin. For me the kicker is that I can have anything artificial allergy wise.

White girls be doing blackface...yep, this is off to a great start!
People can even be allergic to their own mother's milk. It's not that rare either, both an ex of mine and an uncle had this particular kind of allergy. And nothing is more natural than mother's milk, you'd think that babies should never be allergic to it. Yet they are.

Your segment about Younique and abortion made me grind my teeth (not your fault). I'm a clinic escort for a Planned Parenthood in Washington D.C., and the chart you showed mirrors one of the talking "scripts" I hear from the antis every time I'm out there. I know you mentioned that MLMs have an overlap with religion, so here's a little bit of information to go with that. The anti-abortion "sidewalk counselors" all share tips and scripts*, the talking points they use are designed to bypass rationality and hit emotional triggers (I have heard "don't let abortion be your Christmas memory" said to a woman entering the clinic during the run-up to the holidays), sometimes their tactics involve creating a false sense of connection between themselves and their target in order to lever that feeling of familiarity into a sense of trust, and they are adept at using shame, emotional blackmail, and love-bombing** as they see fit.
    * above and beyond the training they get - yes, there are ministries that specifically teach how to harass people going into and out of clinics, though their discrimination is often lacking. Seeing the baffled look on a woman's face (who was probably in her late 60s) after being told not to kill her baby, or a gay man who is there for an STD test (I wish patients would stop telling the antis why they're at the clinic, it's no-one's damn business), I'm getting the feeling they're just going for a shotgun approach.
** Speaking of love-bombing and shotgun approach, they seem to do a lot of "caring" and "loving" AT people, which gives me the impression they have no idea what the words actually mean, and are mostly tied up in fulfilling the demands of their own emotional presuppositions, whether those mental constructs are about themselves, the world, people walking down the street, or even people who don't exist.
Sorry for the wall of text, it's a pet peeve of mine. Thank you for your vid.

Emma I love your vids, and this one was great! I just wanna push back on one thing towards the end (34:40) - coffee (caffeine generally) can definitely be an anti-anxiety remedy for *some* people despite being a stimulant. Anecdotally, I have some Inattentive ADD, and like many w/ variations of attention disorders, I really benefit from moderate stimulant usage. These days I take prescribed medications, but in the past I relied on non FDA-classified stims like, mostly, caffeine. One of the most major differences I notice when I'm "up" is a huge decrease in anxiety. In my case, my scattered mind, random and obtrusive thoughts, haze and mental fog, emotional disorganization, second-guessing, lethargy, etc are all direct contributors to my anxiety. But stimulating my brain (with caffeine for example) banishes the mental haze, allows me to channel my mental energy in one direction, and helps me prioritize my thoughts and emotions, which directly counters the cause(s) of my anxiety. One of the single biggest positives I experienced from starting amphetamines was that most of my anxiety pretty much vanished.
I don't mean to be pedantic, and I completely agree that overuse of caffeine and stimulants can cause increased heart rate, panic attacks, and other negative outcomes. But I think our culture tends to have a very one-dimensional view of anxiety, and I just want to push back a bit on those presumptions. I only mentioned my experience but it's not an uncommon reaction and not limited to attention disorders. I've seen research on this and if I find comprehensive reports I'll try to update with links. Hope this doesn't come across as rude, love this content so much!

One of the drawbacks of the slow coming to consciousness of people at large insofar as they begin to understand that they're not alone in the universe and other people actually exist, is the shying away from insults. Ages ago, in the times of handkerchiefs in back pockets and gay bars with blacked-out windows, we had a simple rule: is it something the person has done to themselves and can change? insult it. Is it something intrinsic about the person about which they've got no choice? never insult it. Thus, while it's awful to call someone ugly, for example, it is *entirely* appropriate to call a willfully ignorant person who's hurting their own children a downright fucking moron. The fact is: idiots need to be told they're idiots, otherwise they never have a chance of figuring it out on their own.

A lot of the "benefits" from coffee are just treating the withdrawal. It's not the coffee calm you down, but if you're addicted then the withdrawal can make you anxious, and more caffeine treats the withdrawal. It's the same with cigarettes. Addicts swear that smoking calm them down when they're stressed.

I know this is 3 years old i just found it but I remember being a kid I cant remember the company in the early 90s but I remember if you sold a certain amount of stuff you'd either get prizes like video games, bikes, and other things or you could get cash but if you refereed friends or family to help you'd get a bonus. I cant believe things like that were marketed towards kids but it got shut down for being an MLM targeting kids. I almost joined it cause it sounded so good I'm glad i didn't cause they were exposed for other shady practices too. MLM's don't work unless you are at the top of the pyramid and 90% of people are at the entry level barely making minimum wage

The fact they use emotional events in people's lives to decieve there true intent to basically scam it's disgusting. I have a story too. “I’m trying hard not to call this woman stupid.” There’s something else going on. I know people of mediocre intelligence/little education who seem to reason in agreement with accepted rationale, while others seem brighter, but still go down rabbit holes of delusion and conspiracy theory. It has to do with the general respect for superior expertise. It’s more acceptable now to believe whatever you want. It’s the unavoidable result of a culture of intellectual freedom!

Just my experience: to even make your money back from your buy-in to join an MLM, is a LOT of work. Most people will quit before then. If you want to do it as a job, it isn’t part-time, stay home with the kids, blah blah blah. It is long days and you are always at it. It has to be your entire life. It is much harder to make a living at an MLM than a “regular job”. Plus, you have to annoy the shit out of everyone you ever knew. The company makes their money off of YOU, the business partner. Your fee to join and the product and marketing materials that YOU buy…..not customers.
I did an MLM for a few months and it is extremely HARD work. RUN AWAY from anyone pitching you an “opportunity “.
Edit: keep track of your expenditures because the only (sort of) silver lining will be the LOSS that you write off your taxes at the end of the year…..and it will be a loss.

I love when I get someone swiping me with an unwanted scent to cure my migraine.

I used to use a coffee bean grinder and a French press. Over time I became so lax I now often just quickly make some instant coffee. That is pretty bad, so now I spike it with Irish cream. That's pretty good, but now I drink iced Kahlua and Irish cream the rest of the day. Is that completely bad? No, because I used to drink beer. Was I intentionally trying to change the subject? Yeah.

“I’ll be getting these to wear at a memorial event to honor my daughter”, who she had just explained, in the same message, was stillborn at 39 weeks, still no cause of death, answered simply by “contact me when ready to order” is one of the most heartbreaking and simultaneously infuriating things I have ever seen.
Seeing that, trying but unable to imagine that woman’s pain, I literally wished I could go back in time, highjack that monster’s message and just add two f**king words, “I’m sorry”. I mean, that’s not even close to enough but still. Ffs

17:45 Of course they can't and won't fix the problem of salespeople doing horrible things. That's not a flaw in their business model, it's the entire *point*. They'll tell the sales people not to do or say certain things, and that covers their own ass, legally. If the salespeople then do those things, it's not their fault. The model pushes as much expense & liability off of the corporation as possible.

I cannot imagine that the worst problem black people are facing is in not being able to buy makeup that suits them. Breonna Taylor, EMT, is DEAD, not struggling with available shades of foundation.

    • @Parker-nm9cg
      @Parker-nm9cg ปีที่แล้ว

it's not the *worst* problem by a long shot, but it definitely is one. as much as the societal expectation for women to wear makeup is absolutely terrible and should be destroyed, it can often be a factor in hiring, pay, how they get treated in society and the workplace, etc.
not having makeup that suits their skin tone can exacerbate prejudices about Black women being "trashy" or not caring about their appearance, leading to worse discrimination. since makeup almost never goes into genuinely *dark* skin tones, it perpetuates colorism and alienates Black women who aren't light-skinned. it keeps them from even the tiny amount of safety conformity to gender roles can provide.
