I judge religions by what their scriptures and authority figures say and imply. Christianity, for instance, is based on the dogma of original sin and of vicarious redemption through human blood sacrifice. Outright immoral through and through. The only Christians we don't have to worry about are those who take their religion á la carte and their Bible out of context.

Death, because she didn't cry for help (because obviously there's no reason someone would be afraid or unable to do so). • @screwdestiny
      @screwdestiny 3 ปีที่แล้ว +124

Hey! Perhaps I can explain this. There's a massive difference between a submissive wife in the 21st century and the submissive wives of the first half of say, the 20th. Now I totally understand that submission is something that's just downright unappealing to a lot of women, period. However, in regards to your question, women who choose to take a more traditional submissive role in their relationships nowadays are doing just that: choosing. Being submissive for the man is what feels natural and makes us exceedingly happy. But it does NOT require us having empty brains. We can be educated, we can work, we can be opinionated...and yet still fall naturally into being a lovely, submissive woman for our man.
I know for me personally, I get immense satisfaction from serving my partner in a variety of ways and working on being the best version of myself, both for him and me. This stands in contrast to a wife in the 1950's who was expected to passively move through life with her set duties without being allowed to ever do anything else or consider if she even liked that life. I am SO happy that we have moved past that in most countries and that women now have a ton of choice. But since there still exist women in 2021 who are choosing this path, and there are men who like it, it's clear it's a thing that just works really well for some people.

The important thing imo is being with someone who respects you however your relationship operates, following your own life path reached through understanding (i.e. not being pressured through upbringing or social group) and not imposing that on others. @@EmmaThorneVideos Exactly. Being a submissive woman myself and trying to find community, I explored Humbled Females several years ago. While there were some things about it that were nice, I couldn't get past all the misogyny (from both the men and women) and the fact that the people in that community seem to truly believe that all women should operate in this way. That part was particularly sad to me because it made it so the men of the community seemed to forget the fact that submission is a gift, and it's not one we give to just anyone.

I am a biologist so I use female and male in that regard (not to belittle humans who have more sentience and can think about things like gender and roles they hold). These people are really into telling females how to live their lives, if it was "meant to be" would it not be innate? Nobody worries if their dog or cat is acting male or female, they just let them be and see that most of one sex act in a certain way (and MANY do not). Their need to control it all disproves the very thing they stand for.

Theres nothing wrong with you categorising people as male and female. I work at a gym in the locker rooms so we tend to refer to our staff as "male" (as in: suitable to work in the men's locker room) and "female" (ditto for women's locker room)... and must have staff distributed across those categories according to need (as much as those needs can be met within corporate instruction re: labor hour budget), which can make for some very gendered things... yeah I do wonder about gender among other species, it's really a fascinating lens through which we can view ourselves

I thought that was John Stuart Mills' strongest argument - if it were really true that women couldn't or don't want to do x then it wouldn't be necessary to pass laws and exert all this social pressure to make them conform.

    • @Mulberrysmile
      @Mulberrysmile ปีที่แล้ว +3

A biologist should know there are actual physical variances from the two sexes, making it the statistical center, but not the complete picture of reality.
A very interesting couple of facts to note, that also put the lie to claim:
Variation in sexual orientation is present globally, including in cultures that were isolated, which means self image and sexual orientation are NOT cultural artifacts.
Some of the oldest recorded tales include sexual variations…note that Shiva was a bearded figure with breasts. Do also note that homosexuals were recorded as existing in ancient texts, and in cultures that took a negative view, meaning it was certainly very dangerous and not something a person would be persuaded to be if it weren’t what they naturally felt themselves to so be.
Non binary sexuality certainly goes beyond socialized binary gender roles and is absolutely a biological fact. As a biologist ought to know.

I HATE the “anti-birth control” sentiment, because I specifically take birth control to regulate my health. Before I took birth control, I got excruciating ovarian cysts every month- which actually eventually killed one of my Fallopian tubes- and I had out-of-control endometriosis, I had issues with PCOS, and an abundance of scar tissue in my reproductive system that was a direct result of all of the aforementioned reproductive issues. Before birth control, I was in AGONY- life was UNBEARABLE. Birth control saved my life. Yes, birth control did change my personality some- it made me IMMENSELY more feminine, softer, quieter, I cry over EVERYTHING that stirs up my emotions in ANY way, etc. etc. Some of the changes to my life that have occurred due to my birth control aren’t fun- like the crying over everything... but there are some changes that I adore- like how I’m softer and more cuddly now than I was before taking birth control. Before taking birth control, I didn’t cry over anything, I wasn’t emotional, affection was hard for me to show... but now that I’ve taken birth control for around 5 years- that all changed. Part of my personality change is from a growth in maturity- as again, I’ve been taking the pill for 5 years- but my personality changes are also a result of the pill itself. That being said, I wouldn’t take back taking the pill at all. The personality changes I’ve experienced are bearable, and if I stopped taking birth control, all of my out-of-control reproductive issues that I had beforehand would start happening again- unchecked. The life I live now is immensely better than the life I lived before- birth control has saved my life.... so honestly fuck all of those anti-birth-control people. They fucking piss me the fuck off.

WHen the male pill had way worst side effects on trials. The majority of the subjects developed depression and suicidal thoughts, and some became infertal for lilfe. The four noble truths actually deal with the nature of suffering, that it is that humans suffer, through their desire for something more or something new or different. And the noble eightfold path is the way to relieve this suffering of desire and envy and jealousy. So In a way, he really lived a life free of suffering. If you’re referring to the period where he lived a life of asceticism, he actually came to believe that while it was a worthy experience, just like living a life of wealth when he was a prince, he still felt dissatisfied with life and believed this wasn’t the way to relieve the craving of experience that he felt. It wasn't her fault she got cursed, it wasn't her fault people who look at her turn to stone, she wasn't the one going around from town to town turn people into lawn ornaments, she removed herself from society and lived in a freaking cave so that she wouldn't hurt anyone. The heroes went looking for her and got turned to stone. I mean what else is she going to do when big men with swords come to kill her, not defend herself?? She was the victim in the story. So medusa holding Perseus's head is not only a message of female empowerment, it is also about her not getting murdered in this version and defending herself form her attacker so that statue is cool on two levels

Bravo! - This, what you said, is EXACTLY the way we should look at Medusa! - She is the archetypical prototype of an abused woman who had done nothing wrong except being incredibly beautiful. For the antique gods this was enough to sentence her to something more cruel then death - to be a killer monster, dispersonized, dishumanized and without having the choice to control her behavior. The only thing, that she could do, was to retire into hiding. And not even there she could find rest, because she was permanently hunted by male heroes - and at least it was her sad destiny, that tragically only thru her final death she was able to safe another woman ... Andromeda.....
Can someone imagine a more bitter fate??....
For me Medusa is the true hero and her story just another cause, not to belief in the "grace of god" ....

I have so many things I want to say but I’ll limit it to the transphobia.
I am in uni and the past two semesters I’ve been studying the beginning of the English language via literature in various cultures. Focusing specifically in native Americans’ literature. The EARLIEST writings of these people - tribes that never even talked to one another and were across the continent - believed in bodies born with “two souls”. They talk about those who have a “dominant soul” or “equal souls”. They go in depth on these people. They describe trans and non-binary people as early as they could scribble things down.
These people are not “fads” or “trends” nor are they just “popping up bc it’s popular” or whatever. Plenty of cultures saw and recognized this and most treated them as NORMAL PEOPLE. wild right ? In fact, back to native Americans gave these people higher roles in their societies because they were more “in tuned” to their souls or more “enlightened”.

I'm sorry, but you are actually wrong about it not being a fad. I know for some people, it is truly who they think they are meant to be, without being influenced by outside sources. However, with the constant media attention and glamorization of it, it is actually becoming a fad ad well. There are mother's who are deliberately teaching their children to be "gender-fluid" and transexual. There are so many lost teens who feel like they don't fit in and not only being taught that they can become whatever they want, but also being encouraged to transition, and feel as if not feeling comfortable with who they are means they must be in the "wrong body". I have literally seen so many trans people who have not only transitioned as a result of their own fetishes, but also are peer pressuring and trying to manipulate others emotions to transition as well, and some of those people have literally said that they feel inclined to transition to be able to fit in with their friends, gain attention, or be more unique. There's nothing discriminatory about acknowledging that it has become a fad. Recognizing such problems can shed light on some much larger issues. Some kids actually said that it was only the LGBT kids in their school who were bullying and peer pressuring "cis, straight" kids. Why are people feeling the need to transition as a means to fit in and be accepted? Because it has been repeatedly glamorized. Many people are already reaching the point where they have detransitioned, sometimes more than once, because they say they've realized they were influenced into doing it for the wrong reasons. This is going to happen more and more as the years go on.

@@RetardationAwareness "I'm sorry, but you are actually wrong about it not being a fad." Alright, here's your central claim. Alright. To support this claim, you must demonstrate that people being trans is a short-lived trend and is based on its popularity.
"However, with the constant media attention and glamorization of it, it is actually becoming a fad ad well." Just because it gets media attention and glamorization does not mean it's a fad. Also, there's significant media demonization of trans people as well as significant threats towards trans people (higher rates of violence and verbal abuse against trans people than cis people), so your argument must account for that as well.
"There are mother's who are deliberately teaching their children to be "gender-fluid" and transexual." Cite specific examples. Demonstrate that this does in fact occur and at a significant enough rate to support your argument. Because I'm certain that for every mother that does this, there are thousands times more that attempt to force their children to be cis. I am doubting your assessment of this situation. More likely, parents are teaching acceptance of being genderfluid and transgender, not teaching children to be transgender.
"There are so many lost teens who feel like they don't fit in and not only being taught that they can become whatever they want, but also being encouraged to transition, and feel as if not feeling comfortable with who they are means they must be in the "wrong body"."
Demonstrate that the kids in question that are being encouraged to transition are not members of the groups of people who would benefit. Most people who transition attest to increased satisfaction with themselves and their lives. Those that don't usually cite the adversity they face from peers and family, which is not a negative assessment of transitioning itself but the perception of it.
      - "There are so many lost teens who feel like they don't fit in"
People are not being encouraged to transition unless they feel that they identify as a gender that doesn't align with their assigned sex at birth. Children cannot transition with hormones or surgery until they are adults, capable of making such a decision. In addition, they usually need a therapist to give the go ahead before they can receive treatment, which is far easier said than done. Demonstrate to me that most people being encouraged to transition are being encouraged for the wrong reasons.
"I have literally seen so many trans people who have not only transitioned as a result of their own fetishes"
Massive X to doubt there. Did they *tell* you they transitioned for a fetish? Did they express sexual interest in the idea of transitioning to you? Or are you assuming that they did because you cannot imagine transitioning for any other reason. I highly question your ability to assess other people's motivations without hearing them give their personal reasons or them being anywhere close to you socially. Even if they did find themselves sexually attractive in their transitioned body, so what? That doesn't mean that they transitioned for the purpose of fulfilling a fetish. Many people, cis and trans, find their own bodies sexually attractive. But people only make a deal of it when trans people do. Weird.
"but also are peer pressuring and trying to manipulate others emotions to transition as well, and some of those people have literally said that they feel inclined to transition to be able to fit in with their friends, gain attention, or be more unique."
I again doubt your assessment of what trans people are doing, since it is unlikely you are actually close enough to any of them to make that judgement. I also wonder what kind of community these people are in, where they could be so bold, seeing as trans people are reviled in many communities. I'd also like specific examples of those who "have literally said that they feel inclined to transition to be able to fit in with their friends, gain attention, or be more unique." This doesn't seem like something people really say, so I need to verify it. These would be quite interesting case studies/anecdotes, but not really evidence until you can demonstrate a clear, consistent pattern that applies to the greater population. Extrapolation is a big no-no here.
"There's nothing discriminatory about acknowledging that it has become a fad."
It's discriminatory if you're labeling as a fad for the express purpose of discrimination. And since science has been quite in support of trans people and history shows that trans people have been around for pretty much all of humanity, you really have to question if your biases against trans people aren't leading you to this conclusion.
"Recognizing such problems can shed light on some much larger issues. Some kids actually said that it was only the LGBT kids in their school who were bullying and peer pressuring "cis, straight" kids."
Citation needed. I see far more in the opposite direction, so I'm gonna doubt your assessment once more. For one, how do I know that the cis/het kids aren't lying or misinterpreting non-malicious behaviors as malicious. It's a common trend that people treat the victims as the villain. For example, in the Civil Rights Era, black people just standing up for themselves were seen as disturbing the peace by racists. How do I know this is any different? And certainly, it doesn't prove that the LGBTQ+ kids were bullying kids for the explicit reason that those kids were cis/het. It could just be regular bullying.
"Why are people feeling the need to transition as a means to fit in and be accepted? Because it has been repeatedly glamorized."
Citation needed. You have not demonstrated this to be the case. Usually, it helps to ask people in question why they do the things they do, rather than assign them motives, as much as we love to do that. Trans people cite specifically: their bodies are not adequate representations of who they are mentally and it affects the way they see themselves and others see them in a negative/detrimental way. Not to fit in and be accepted (that would be counterintuitive given the widespread hate towards trans people). Also being trans hasn't really been glamorized. What has been glamorized is support of trans people, though not exactly the kind of support trans people need, which is to be seen as normal people and to be given the tools they need to transition and live life peacefully and happily. Meanwhile, transphobic ideas are still widely accepted in society, though less so than before.
"Many people are already reaching the point where they have detransitioned, sometimes more than once, because they say they've realized they were influenced into doing it for the wrong reasons."
People do indeed detransition, but I doubt that you actually know why. Can you cite specific cases where people explain why, so I can hear it from them? And if they detransitioned once then retransitioned, it sounds to me like they didn't dislike transitioning but that there may have been other factors. One factor people always love to conveniently forget about is the fact that trans people face constant discrimination and can even be assaulted if they even appear to be trans. That certainly might lead some people to detransition. And yet, you haven't mentioned this fact at all, despite it being a very important point to address in basically all of your claims. And even then, the misjudgements of some people says nothing about whether transitioning is right for other people. And it appears to be the case that the vast majority of those who do, have no regrets. And most of those that do detransition, do it because of society, and would not have in a supporting environment.
"This is going to happen more and more as the years go on."
Extrapolation moment. You have no idea whether more people will detransition in the future or not. I mean, if the number rises, it's most likely just because a higher number of people are transitioning and you know how ratios work. But, the ratio of detransitioners to people who transition at least once may very much decrease as knowledge on the matter increases and discrimination against trans people decreases.
So my main problems are that you list a lot of generic anecdotes, without demonstrating that they are reliable or indicative of a wider pattern. You also try to demonstrate cause and effect with these anecdotes, which is inappropriate given that you haven't isolated any confounding or lurking variables. You also appear to make assumptions about the motivations of others, without citing their own assertions about their motivations.
Examples without details are useless; I don't trust your examples or your judgement until you give details and demonstrate its trustworthiness to a reasonable extent. I'll provide evidence myself if you need any for any claims I make, but I didn't make too many, and the ones I did make shouldn't be too objectionable I think.

Elaborating: This particular story comes from Ovid's Metamorphoses. His writing is notably respectful of ancient Greek faith and folklore (unlike most contemporary Romans), and there are some faithful recordings of stories. However, his writing has an obvious anti-deity slant (assumed to be projection of anti-imperial slant he held to), and his story of Medusa's origin is attested nowhere else, and may be created by him. None of the known actual ancient Greek sources treat Medusa as anything more than a Gorgon - a monster.

When we have a history of misogyny and male privilege, many perceive feminism as a threat to men, when it is only a threat to men's privilege.
Feminism seeks to change unfair privilege men statistically benefit from, such as the ability to harass women or commit micro-aggressions without a large enough threat of consequence, or the privilege of being more likely to gain promotions or higher pay for the same work as someone of another gender. Losing that privilege is simply having something you never should have had taken away. Feminism as an ideology does not seek to damage men or pull them into the position of disadvantage or discrimination that women on average face now. But, when people become complacent with their unfair privilege, a threat to that privilege may be perceived as a threat to their entire livelihood. What many of these men don't understand is that as long as they benefit from this privilege, it puts women at a disadvantage.

Hi, I'm super late to this awesome party, but I love your videos! I wanted to bring in a side point I thought you might be interested in - as an afab nonbinary person with lots of birth control experience, I used to agree that it was laughably ironic that male-focused hormonal birth control was discarded in studies because of the severity of side effects. However, someone raised a point that entirely changed my mind on it: when you're considering whether side effects of a new drug are acceptable or not, you consider whether the side effects of the drug are worse *for that patient* than the possible effects of not taking the drug. Pregnancy is an inherently dangerous condition, and therefore drugs that are aimed at helping prevent *that patient* from becoming unwillingly pregnant have a higher threshold of "allowable" side effects. In people who cannot become pregnant, the side effects would always be more dangerous and negatively affecting (again, *to the patient taking the drug, medically*) than the........continued entire lack of ever becoming pregnant......that would be the result of not taking the drug.
Sorry, very long-winded, but this perspective changed how I talk about male-focused hormonal birth control options and I think it's an important point to keep in mind! I hope one day there's a much broader range of options for literally everyone, and all of them should always be free and readily available.

We wanna talk about hunter gathers? Lionesses hunt more than male lions. It's scientific fact that female lions hunt more and provide for their pride while male lions "protect" the pride.

I think that Melania wanted to be left out of politics for the most part, we probably saw Michelle Obama more, but she took political stances and was active in politics (as much as the first lady can be, anyway)

Don’t you just love “men” who beat their chests in a declaration of masculinity, but then cry like babies when they get their fefes hurt... and their fefes get hurt way too easily. Women are not trying to emasculate men. They don’t have to. A lot of guys are doing a damn fine job of that on their on. I’m happy to stand by women in whatever they choose to do. Even if a woman was being blatantly sexist towards men; I wouldn’t feel like it was an assault on my delicate sensibilities. I’m a man. I don’t have delicate sensibilities.

As far as the stay-at-home parent thing; I’m a single daddy (two toddler boys), I’m also an engineer. The parenting role is much more taxing and exhausting than the engineering. It is also infinitely more rewarding and fulfilling, and I think that is where the confusion comes from, people conflate rewarding and “better” for “easy”. It is absolutely NOT easy, it’s one of the more trying tribulations in life…but given the opportunity, I would drop everything to do it full-time.

Reading these some of these comments gave hope for the future others not so much. I think that a relationship is built on mutual trust and respect. If sex is important to you maybe tou should make sure your partner has the same opinion. I personally don't think that sex as important as some said in the comments. Many things can happen in the future, stress and also medical problems with your ovaries, vagina or penis can change the amount of sex one has its life. This is why people should get together because they truly like each other and their personality rather than sex drive. After all people are not animals that have no self control. I hate this argument that people have "urges" and can't control themselves (sometimes used to justify rape or other behaviors). Nobody died from not having sex. I wrote this comment because I feel uncomfortable sometimes when say that everything is about sex and that not having a boyfriend/girlftiend or sex at least once before a certain age means that there something wrong with you.
