Reggie, We live not too far from the airport and I about mistook our 5 yr. old GE top loading washer for a 737 just prior to takeoff. I immediately thought bad bearing - big job. Then I saw this video. I was able to easily displace the tub over far enough to see that one of the rubber straps is broken. I owe you a six pack. Thanks for putting video on TH-cam!!!!!
Great video. My son-in-law overloads the washer ALL the time. Now it’s knocking; told him it was probably off balance. Sure enough; saw your video; went to check it and that’s exactly what it was. Now I’m just gonna order the part and get it done.
Thank you so much for this video! My son overloaded ours a few days ago while rushing his chores and it was making a really bad metal on metal scrapping after that. He was so worried about how he might make it up to us that he said he wanted to try to fix it. So, he and I used your video and it is fixed! I can't thank you enough.
Thanks Reggie for that video. It helped me understand why my washer was shaking and gave me the courage and understanding to dig in and fix it. Really helpful. Thank you.
We figured out how to control the off-load spin-cycle issue much easier: Bought a 2800 lbs 20 foot tow cable from Harbor Freight and wrapped it tightly around BOTH washer and dryer (they are right next to each other). This was our solution: No banging or moving around. Very silent. Couldn't be more happy. In the last 18 months since we did this, only once did it require us to re-position the towells.
Thanks for the help full video however I spent more time trying to figure out how to open the front panel then the time it took me to put the screw back in the dampening hole that had came loose. With that said you just saved me purchasing a new washer to keep the wife happy
TX reggie out all video I watched not one person in their video mentioned those rubber things on top stabalizers..ty sir I'm going to check it out tomorrow
Hi Reggie. I replaced the drive belt on my GE washer by tilting it on its side and removing the bottom plate. After I put it back together and stood it up, the spin cycle began with a loud bang and then a lot of other noises. I popped off the front and saw that the tub has 2 tabs bottom center and 2 wings standing up from the base plate. Well, the tub was off kilter and one of the tabs was stuck on top of the wing. By watching your video, I was able to figure it out. Thanks much!
Your video helped! I moved the washer using a dolly and sure enough I bent the bottom up. I used a rubber mallet to tap it back down and that solved my problem.
I dont have a GE but it's a bucket just like this one and doing the same rocking and loud when spinning. I'm gonna see what I can do today. Thank you for sharing. .
This is so interesting. I can't wait to try it out. I let my brother do his laundry here, he put double the normal amount & now I can't wash any sheets or towels without a thunderous spin cycle. It takes a few adjustments, but I can usually balance it just by moving stuff around, but it's really annoying.
We'll, I've had a shaking washing machine for over a year. I pulled off the front and what do you know, one of those rubber things was detached at the top. I hope that fixes this problem. Thanks for the video!
Replaced the rubber bands and the spring stabilizers... Inspecting it before I put it all back together and saw the counterweight beneath the drum was no longer screwed in. Took care of that and the washer is like new. No idea if it was just the counterweight or a combination of everything.
Yeah I had the same model GE from the early 2000s, we overloaded it all the time, bounced so bad it nearly came out of the washing room door lol, needless to say we got rid of it a long time ago and replaced it with a fisher and paykel brand
Thanks, haven't done it yet, but sounds like this should be my GE washer problem, it's banging inside against something and it's loud as hack. Cross fingers it's not a tub bearing.
We have a Hot Point top load washer(basically a GE) During the spin cycle you can hear it banging around pretty bad...most the vids i viewed showed a loose counter weight as being the problem. I disassembled the machine about 10mins ago, and the counter weight looks to be good and tight. What else could cause this problem? The 4 black rubber dampers in your vid seem to be fine. Any help would be appreciated!! Thank you
Greetings and thanks for this post. The washer agitates on certain cycles then stops and starts back on other cycles plus tub is off balance. What does that mean??
My top loader is completely detached sitting at like a 45 degree angle. My girlfriend put all out pillows in at once. Do these stabilizers also hold the drum up? Or just keep it from rocking?
I hope are still on here and can help me with my washer. It's not a GE, but it's a Whirlpool top loader model # WTW4800XQ2. I am hoping that this fix is universal. I have that one and only off balance banging happen during the spin cycle. It usually only happens when I do towels, or blankets, and sometimes jeans.
@@LeanOnYourRep hah! Funny you say that because I was able to get the a look inside and there is only 2 springs on the right hand side (standing in front of washer) one is in the back and one is in the front. However, it looks like I maybe missing a spring on the left hand side. There looks to me like there are the holes that the spring would attach to and then attach to the rod. I am not sure if there is a spot for a second spring on the left hand side, the bleach tray is in the way if that makes sense? The springs that are there on the right hand side are extremely flimsy feeling so I plan on replacing them. I guess what I'm trying to ask you is this: should there be spring on both sides of the drum or just the right-side?
Like the video.Just had floors put in the house and they had to pick up or slide my washer to put some flooring in the wash room. Now my washer is out of balance.I washed a medium size load not too much so I know that's not it and I even moved the wet clothes around inside the washer to see if that would help but still way off balance. Is there something that may be off underneath that got out of whack when they moved the washer? It was in spin cycle when I noticed it was not near the wash room during the wash and the washer had slid over a few inches. Thanks
Depends on the brand. Does the tub look off center when you open the lid? Could have jumped off the springs. Does the machine rock when you put your hands on the frame? If so, you van adjust the legs just my swisting them
@@LeanOnYourRep is there a vid on repairing the springs? reattaching the springs. Where are the springs are those the hanging (orange) things that suspend the drum... floating the drum? Thanks, Moon
My GE washer is not spinning today and it’s been a great washer. I don’t have very much strength so how hard is it To tilt the washing machine, To see if the belt broke? In a small room
On a different video I heard that if you use your washer while it is out of balance that it will damage the drum & is then not able to be repaired. Do you agree?
Hi there thank you for your cool vids and advice. My top loader washing machine drum has tipped off to one side like its off balance. Would this be the same problem as this vid you posted above? Thanks again
That usually happens if the machine was moved and place on its side. Or if you had a really off balance load in there. Look on the sides of the machine and verify that all this Springs are connected to the tub. Very easy to reconnect them
I have a ge top loader, model wjrr4170eww, it was leaking water so I replaced the tub seal and resealed the transmission because the fill plug was missing and the oil was goo. When I put it back together it now won't spin, it tries to and stops, not sure what happened but before, I replaced the capacitor, no help. Any ideas? It agitates fine, I also cleaned out the level tube and I can hear the level switch click when I blow into the tube. I checked the resistance of the lid switch, that was good too, during rinse/spin the motor turns to spin and I can hear it bang then it stops.
Another question, is there a water spill I need to be careful about in the house if the washer has to be tilted to get to the bottom? When I’m not using the washer sometimes if I move it I hear water swishing
What is quickest way to retrieve a sock that has fallen between the drum and the frame/assembly. Can I simply leave the sock where it’s at for the life of the machine or does it make sense to disassemble the machine to retrieve it?
@@LeanOnYourRep Thank you Sir for your quick reply. Just because the thought of having a sock in there indefinitely concerns me, I decided to purchase one of those flexible endoscopes from amazon. Very common for the design you have. You have to evenly distribute the towels/weight in the tub. Eventually you'll need to replace the tub springs
