I was having same issue on a 5 month old ge washer. Tech thought it was the rods. Problem not fixed. He brought me a new washer and he was going to take the original back to his store to check it out. When we unloaded the new one I checked the tub on the new one versus the older one. Turns out that the tub bolt or nut came loose. The tub would partially lift away from the agitator. Anyway I got to keep the new machine. Apparently the tub bolt or nut was not torqued properly at factory. Just a lucky find. Hope this helps someone.

Great public service educational videos. How can you tell if the suspension rods are shot? I have an older GE, and the spring suspension rods are in plastic cover. The cover seemed to have some white lube residue inside, but mostly dry. The rods are straight and the springs look undamaged and symmetrical. I put some grease in along the shaft inside the cover and it stopped the rocking unbalanced whirling dervish. But it still sounds like a jet engine taking off on the spin cycle.
It is a bit dicey to visually tell rods are bad (it's usually symptom based). If your washer sounds like a jet the tub bearings are shot (soon enough it will probably seize up and stop spinning all together).
Went through same thing with ours. Yes it's the tub bearing but wait there's more! You can't just buy the bearing for these. They are part of the transmission box now. So this will set you back about 180 for a new one, providing you do the install yourself like I did. Washers today are made so cheap that half the repairmen won't touch them anymore. New tranny in and now another 80 bucks for suspension rods? I shit canned ours and went back to a Kenmore direct drive that was made in the 90's
Open the lid, and press down on the top of the agitator. If you can push it down to the floor without too much effort, the suspension springs are shot.
Hey man I have the same washer maybe a year older or newer. The machine only wobbles like hits the walls in the first mode sensing. When it’s spinning to drain its fine. I’ve changed out the 4 suspension rods and still having the issue. But the issue is only in sensing mode.
That is a bit strange. Did you buy OEM replacement rods? I have heard of the Amazon ones giving people trouble. Also make sure you evenly distribute the clothes in the tub (try a light load thst is evenly distributed). It could be the tub itself is stripped (this can happen if people constantly overload the washer) if this is the case the wobblying will get worse overtime. Finally I would power it down by pulling the plug for 10 minutes or so to reset everything before the next load.
@@DuctTapeMechanic Thanks for the quick reply. I ordered OEM parts that came in GE bags from parts select. So I just did this. Replaced all 4 suspension rods. Washer washes fine, fills fine, but still bouncing off the washer walls when it starts the spin drain cycle. Does anyone know why this could be happening. It’s the exact same model in this video. Thanks in advance!!!
They do have some common issues but the thing is… of allll the washers out there.. these are some of the absolute easiest to work on. To change the drive belt is 3 screws, for example. The hardest thing on this entire washer is getting the agitator and auger out but even that once you’ve done it once or twice- it gets easier to line up.
Before or after you put in the replacement rods, be sure the washing machine is level. Some floors that the machine stands on are not level so be mindful of that. Make sure there is no wobble from corner to corner, also.

As many others have observed, mine was walking/dancing when it was new. This is clearly a design flaw problem and the manufacturer needs to provide and fund a solution.
Not good. Try to make sure it is sitting on level ground if not try leveling the feet. A new washer should not be doing this. Typically suspension rods go bad after 5-7 years. You might have another issue
I don’t wanna buy new ones because they’re like $35 each or even 70 each if I recall. I want to learn how to repair the broken one. From what I’ve heard it’s not the spring inside the retainer that’s the issue when they get old

Not only has my GE hydro wave shake Mike crazy and make a ton of noise when it spins but it basically barely fills - a medium full can wash maybe one pair of pants and a shirt or 2 shirts and yes mine has been shaking since it’s new
My GE washer agitates and drains fine but doesn't spin so I checked the belt and capacitor and it looked fine. So found out clutch would be problem but while replacing it I found clutch doesn't have a clip and I tried pushing clutch down to remove it but didn't work. How can I remove the clutch please help?
What was wrong with the old rods I didn’t see any broken?
What suspension rods did you buy?
Appliance parts pro website or GE website
Mine is also shaking violently. Hoping it’s the suspension rods and not something else. Is there any way to check if they are bad before I buy them?
I'm in the same boat. How do I know which one is bad? At $20 bucks a piece, I don't want to get more than I need.
@louisZ it sounds like no way to test it exactly, and then it's best to replace all at once.. but that's just from my research for having same problem
got a question gtw465ansn8ww model i put it in a drain and spin cycle it will drain them spin starts for about 2 seconds then spin comes to a stop....any help..???
Alot of mode issues are related to the shifter actuator on this machine
excellent video.... what's your favorite source to order these suspension rods?
Thank you! I would say the actual GE website would be the best option followed by appliancepartspros.com, followed by Amazon (if it's your personal machine might be worth it to give them a try because they are typically priced so much lower)
@@DuctTapeMechanic , I got the parts, did the remove/replace in about 1/2 hr.... but spin cycle still fails with OOB and never spins fast enough to drain completely. what can I try next?
How do I know if it’s the bearings? My washer isn’t even a year old About a week ago it started shaking like crazy and it starts to walk off the platform I have it on.
In you case it most likely is the suspension rods. The biggest indicator of bad bearings is a loud roaring sound during the spin cycle
So I just did this. Replaced all 4 suspension rods. Washer washes fine, fills fine, but still bouncing off the washer walls when it starts the spin drain cycle. Does anyone know why this could be happening. It’s the exact same model in this video. Thanks in advance!!!
Most likely, either your tub nut is loose or the inner tub holds is stripped, in which case you need a new washer
I just got this washer second handed and it was vibrating during spin cycle. Now I know what to do to fix it.
I have replaced all my suspension rods on a whirlpool and I'm still getting the violent shakes on the spin cycle. Any ideas?
Most likely your tub is stripped from being overloaded too often
I was also told it was possibly the tub ring as well
I'm having this same problem
I changed the rods but continue with the problem . Any ideas?
Do all washers have those
Yes, most modern top load washers do
What if I replaced the rods and the washer still spins violently?
Perhaps the basket hub is stripped. Are you making sure the laundry is distributed evenly in the tub?
@@DuctTapeMechanic I took my washer apart and the hub was stripped and cracked. I just changed it out and my washer is working like new! Thank you!
@@estebanesteban7920what is the hub ? The white piece in the middle? Or the basket
@christopherpinto884 it's a gear hub under the white piece in the middle
@@estebanesteban7920 How do you test for that?
They do have some common issues but the thing is… of allll the washers out there.. these are some of the absolute easiest to work on. To change the drive belt is 3 screws, for example. The hardest thing on this entire washer is getting the agitator and auger out but even that once you’ve done it once or twice- it gets easier to line up.
Before or after you put in the replacement rods, be sure the washing machine is level. Some floors that the machine stands on are not level so be mindful of that. Make sure there is no wobble from corner to corner, also.
Good advice!
This is awesome. My whirlpool washer has been carrying on like this for quite a while, don't know what to do,this is a big help, only thing is,I'm a female😅,so I may still have to pay to get it done, but thank you this really helps.👍👍👍
Glad you found the video helpful!
I'm a woman and just replaced mine. You can absolutely do it! Maneuvering the washer wasn't too bad
As many others have observed, mine was walking/dancing when it was new. This is clearly a design flaw problem and the manufacturer needs to provide and fund a solution.
This is what mine does. It’s brand new. Worst washer I’ve ever owned. It needs to go into the trash.
Did you get yours fixed?
You're the best, man! How much did the replacement suspension rods cost?
Appreciate it man! I believe the GE suspension rods are around $50 it varys where you purchase them from.
@@DuctTapeMechanic Thanks, DTM. Wow! That's nothing compared to having a professional do it. Thanks so much!
How did you find the right part? Where to find the part code? It’s $50 per rod or for four? Thank you so much!
@@dvdgalutube yes id like to know the same, I think im having the same issue.
@@dvdgalutube A little over $100 for all 4
Anybody have a part number? I’m not sure which one to order
Got a brand new maygo washer about 2 weeks ago and it started doing this …
Not good. Try to make sure it is sitting on level ground if not try leveling the feet. A new washer should not be doing this. Typically suspension rods go bad after 5-7 years. You might have another issue
@@DuctTapeMechanic it’s actually pretty leveled which surprised me I’m kind of disappointed
Did you contact the store, since it’s brand new? The store will have to replace it
It’s probably brand new but not brand new lol, as in not from a store it they wouldnt be posting it on youtube trying to fix it lol
This fixed my problem with this washer!
Thanks man I have had this problem for months Thanks
Glad the video helped!
I don’t wanna buy new ones because they’re like $35 each or even 70 each if I recall. I want to learn how to repair the broken one. From what I’ve heard it’s not the spring inside the retainer that’s the issue when they get old
Do you know the parts number for this model washer?
How did you know that was the problem?
My washer is less than 1 yr old. The laundry piles up on one side and causes the drum to get out of balance. ???
Wish you would have actually showed a bad rod compared to a good rod. My GE Profile does this but will run fine if I readjust heavy waterlogged laundry by hand. My washer is 3 months old.
Awesome video thank you for being so detailed and thank you for your time. Like and followed
Glad you enjoyed the video! Appreciate the support
@@DuctTapeMechanic good evening my friend,I would like to ask you a question I have the GE GTW540ASP2WS is there a filter for it? I been trying to find out if theres a filter for this machine?
Help please.
How do you know if 1 is bad
It is recommended to change all 4 at the same time
GTM - Great video thanks, I can handle suspension rod replacements. I tested yesterday my GE top loader looks like a similar machine on the video. I ran through the spin cycle (no clothes) and had no issue with vibration. Question - the violent vibration I have during the high spins cycles - even with few clothes inside of the tub. I rearranged loads many times with no help. DTM - In your opinion, should I proceed with changing suspension rods, and go from there? The machine is 9-10 years old. Model: GTWN4250D0WS, Serial: GZ111349G;
Yes pretty much all the GE washers for the past 10 years are relatively the same. I would personally proceed with changing the suspension rods as that is what sounds like the issue. Best of luck in your repair! Thanks for watching!
Great video same issues. Helped a lot Thanks, you
You're welcome!
Awsome job friend thanknyou so much🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👏👏

I cured mine .... scrapped it and bought a Speed Queen!!
