The hand guards look fine to me. A lot of Super-Moto guys run them for looks and protection. Who knows, they may save your hands from flying rocks or other harmful objects…not to mention, keep your hands warmer.
I haven’t heard anything smack them yet, but I have had the occasional item smack my gloves in the past so that’s certainly a possible benefit.
