Sammy Hagar and The Circle will be in St. Louis on August 15th. I'm more likely to go see them than the current incarnation of Van Halen. Dave is awful. I'm almost certain that there are people commenting on how bad Sammy's vocals are that will shell out good money to go see the current incarnation of Van Halen this year. There's no comparison. Sammy is a far superior singer right here, right now, than Dave has ever been. Anyone that thinks differently is as tone-deaf as David Lee Roth.

I find a lot of the Sammy era songs "so boring" and lacking in energy and just the tone of Ed's guitar after 1984 sucked -- the "brown-sound" is lost forever to electronics. I one song in the Sammy era that I really liked Ed's guitar tone on was "Up For Breakfast" -- it still had that classic tone in it.
James Joyce I seen the Circle in August this past year and Sammy was at the top of his gig. Now certainly he doesn't sound like he did in his 20's or 30's as far as hitting those high notes, just can't do that in a life time and not scratchy in your late 60's. I think Sammy has held up very well. I bet he dies doing what he loves, on stage in front of his fans of a heart attack well into his 70's if not 80's... Ok, maybe not his 80's, that stretching it a bit far, but know what I mean. Rock On Lil' Red Rocker.
Zk Ric I have VH Tokyo Dome & it blows this cover band's live CD like an Eddie guitar guitar solo does!!! With every listen I hear something new that really lets you know Van Halen are a much better, dynamically & more adventurous LIVE band with Roth than the auto-pilot boring Sam stint. For example 'I'm The One' & 'Mean Street' alone further proves that haters * naysayers have nothing but shit in their ears. Watching this 'cover band' of Sam's makes me feel so damn old....
You can say what you want to say with the different singers but really van Halen and its backbone is the guitar of Eddie. .yes these guitarist that have played the old songs are really good don't get me wrong but there still a mosquito sucking the blood on Eddie Van Halen's ass cheek

Sammy is also 7 years his elder and still sounds 100x better than Dave, I love all things Van Halen but Dave is horrendous now.
