A few fun facts: this Ferrari used in this video belonged to Sammy, and he still owns it to this very day :) Also, the mechanic in yellow at the beginning of the video (Claudio) was the person who introduced Sammy to Eddie Van Halen in '85.
My brother John, who died last year at 67 loved fast cars and really loved this song. He even bought me and him T shirts that said "Support Civil Disobedience. Repeal the 55, VOTE with your FOOT......It's a shame he never got to meet Sammy. I think they would have had a lot to talk about. Rest in Peace my brother 😞. Bryan
Very cool story, unfortunately, and inevitably, everyone has the time to go, but the memory remains and when we remember, we smile, and that's the sign of good times together. Sorry for your loss. Cheers from Brazil.
i remember when i was going 85 in a 50 in my '14 GT like 3 years ago...when the state trooper pulled me over i was blaring this song and when he went to give me back my license he just looked at me with this big smile on his face and said "great song man! now keep your speed down and have a nice day" out of respect for him i definitely stopped going that fast on that stretch of road!
Fun fact: this song was inspired by true life event's. After getting pulled over for speeding, the highway patrolman told Sammy that the speed limit was 55 miles an hour. As the officer wen't to his vehicle to retrieve something Sammy thought to himself, "I can't drive 55." He knew in an instant that he had the germ of a new song. The cop came back to Hagar's vehicle and gave him the speeding ticket. Sammy thanked the officer as the whole thing had inspired one of his biggest hits.
Sammy should have sent the cop a copy of his royalty check from the song and video and said "thanks for writing me that ticket. This is more money than you make in a year, isn't it."
The song came out in response to the the national speed limit being reduced to 55. Some states didn’t like the change but had to enforce it, so instead of a speeding ticket , Nevada would issue a wasting energy ticket if you were going between 55 & 70 (in some areas) it was a good time to live in Nevada.
Back then Hagar wrote this song because he got a ticket doing 62, he had just came back to the US from a foreign tour and they had changed the speed limit down to 55

73 years old this year still looks great, rock &'rolling Sammy!!!!!!
Just saw him in concert for the first time 2 weeks ago. 74 years old and still up stage slashing and killing it. Glad my dad raised me on this music and i was able to see this show with him! 🤘🏼
I am sixty eight,still rocking
73 and not woke, not living in the past, and carved his path forward, and he thrived! Lesson? - stop whining and get moving! Nobody owes anybody anything!
Sammy is a hell of a talented musician
WE MAKIN IT OUTTA ALTERNATE 1985 WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🗣🗣🗣

Great song. Sammy Hagar . Legend
Who was cooler then Sammy Hagar back then? NO ONE. He helped America to Rock again. Americans love you Hagar!
Sammy Hagar is great solo and was a great addition to Van Halen. Truly remarkable talent and incredible voice. Love the 55 video.
Here's where I have to mention that he was also in Montrose.
PA Turnpike......17 years old. State Trooper clocked me at 117 in a 65......with this song blaring on the radio. Trooper pulled me out of the car, cuffed me, slapped me around a bit till I was good and scared, and LET ME GO.
you got off easy!! nowadays, geeez, what they would do to you now,it's safer to be a pinata!!
@@rearspeaker6364 They’d just arrest him. he’d go to court and definitely get a HUGE fine and jail time. Add lawyer fees to that... It could be upwards of a 30k thrill.
They took my 151 first
Sounds like a good time to me
Riding on the turnpike right now... What part was this on? 😂
Sammy Hagar to my hometown Fontana
Rides in back of pick up trucks ...and some how I manage to survive!🎉❤😂
One of my proudest moments is a judge in King City, California, saying to me, "You, sir, are a ticket magnet."

2019 speed
It’s April 2023 I’m 44 and this is the first song I remember as a child. Probably the reason for my love of cars and racing games
Um dos meus clips favoritos...
Still loving this in 2020 with the awesome, jammin’ old school music power of MTV
Legend has it that Sammy Hagar still can't drive 55.
Lol
Me neither.
Dash is out no problem because 55 is a state of mind.
Who Can? Especially on my motorcycle. I treat speed limits as a suggestion....
I have NOT ever followed the speed limit I rather take it as a suggestion of how slow I should go!! Then I heard Sammy Hagar and my life has NOT been as slow since, so thanks Sammy!!
Hard Rock doesn't get much better than this, great stuff 👍
