I think they should have made more alien-like creatures. Like the final boss, he really looked cool. And the little wobbly things he spat out reminded me a lot of the final boss of Contra 3 :D
I remember this game back then when I was a child, I would not say is a Contra clone but a competitor in the same market, however, as good as it was back in the day, it was no match to Contra.

I really love graphics of that era, I just think some of the sprite work and animations look strange. I think it's more likely I'm just used to how the console Contra games looked.

Not a Contra clone - influenced by, quite possibly, but very much its own game, and I'd argue Midnight Resistance was better known than Contra in the UK in the early 90s because it was a bigger hit on home computers. You need to look past the idea that just because one game in a genre is pre-eminent (because it gets more retrospective coverage) any competitor is a 'clone'.

I wouldn't call it a Contra clone. The combination of sidescrolling action and the rotary aiming system makes it unusual, if not unique.
