Joymasher has a fondness for games, which you feel in a classic game. Odallus The Dark Call looks like a good game from Konami, at its peak and Oniken looks like a Ninja Gaiden.

Reminds me more of contra 4 than anything.
More super C with the design except for the large amount of bosses and rolling.
No, people, this guy is right. It even has the same color palette, very similar sound, and it even has a similar speed.
Heck, even the chars have different weapon sets and you can switch them anytime you want.
kokubunji there is only one weapon set and the other is the sword. The sound is a lot less hectic and has a different tone. Colour palette is more metal slug and less bright. Also the atmosphere is more generic I kinda wish this game was weirder but it is still absolutely fantastic.

I wish we could get a contra remaster or a new game with the hard corps storyline or a sequel to that game, in my opinion it was the best contra game of all times, the choices system was one of my favorite features and the variety of characters, even the soundtracks, everything from hard corps was epic
this is probably the closest we'll get to a good Hard Corps sequel, Konami nowadays is a mere shadow of itself, probably all the amazing talent they had has left already.
The best one for me was Contra 3

The sheer number of games they borrow aesthetics from in this just for bosses is really impressive. Everything from the entire 2D Contra franchise to Gunstar Heroes to the Mega Man X series. And they use those influences really well, too.

At first I was thinking "Cool another old game I've missed." But then I was like "wait, those long hair animations are too good for SNES or Genesis."
This is for PS4, XBOX, and Switch too, not only Steam.
Does it need to take up a whole game disk? With the graphics i cant imagine more than 500mb used

Shattered Soldier was more of a Contra 3 sequel and HC Uprising was a Blazblue-ish prequel(which isn't bad at all imo, the animation was gorgeous).
@@arkanjoteixeira chronologically speaking Hard Corps is after Contra 3&4, however Shattered Soldier is after Hard Corps, and after Shattered Soldier comes Neo Contra.

this has to be one of the best 16bit games ever. And damn, you make it looks so easy to play lmao just awesome!
I gotta say, I LOVE this game. The pixel art is very well done, the gameplay is super fun and fluid, very reminiscent of Contra AND Metal Slug, and I really like the old video game references they threw in here too. Like the Ride Chaser from Megaman X4, the pseudo-3D tunnel boss that I think is a throwback to the N. Gin fight from Crash Bandicoot 3, and the final boss which is basically mimicking Sigma from Megaman X1
Visual, style, gameplay and music wise this looks like a love letter to Contra Hard Corps. It even the same "over the top" feeling.
The drone thing reminded me of Shatterhand though lol
And the main char looks like Sheena Etranzi.
What a fantastic looking game. There's been a lot of retro 8/16 bit titles out there lately, but this is the only one that really captures that classic Irem/Metal Gear style of detail and artistry.
This is a Mixture of Contra & Metal Slug all in one Game.
And Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man X
I'm actually surprised Konami didn't make this. The designer did a hell of a job replicating their style with the graphics and sounds

I played only the original Contra and watch only half of the first boss and half of the second one, but I can recognize a Contra when I see one. Looks great!

I have to admit the bosses were well made and were very flashy in their attacks, always a sign of a good action game.
I keep getting confused when playing this game, at time I feel like I'm playing Contra and at other times I feel like I'm Metal Slug... It fucks with my game play. I love the visuals.

I love how much it's on the nose of the exact style it was going for. My favorite thing tho is the balance of challenge. Still hard like old games but with saves and continues. Totally makes the difference between fuck this and I love this.

Finished this game yesterday on my Switch, it's awesome. The speed bot is pretty broken, it gives you a double jump and makes you very fast.

That Megaman X4 intro stage(even freaking street and arcs from the first phase) and also its explosion sound efects, damn this game is god tier in references and cameos, also the final boss "sigma like" from x1, AND FREAKING MEGAMAN ZERO STYLE BOSSES AND EXPLOSIONS, GOD BLESS THIS GAME.

The last phase of this boss clearly has some influences from Contra Hard Corps' mutant boss that ate Doctor Mandrake.
Such a beautiful game, it's exciting just to watch it.
