Dude, same! I had watched my cousin play the first Castlevania for NES, but the very first one of the series that *_I_* played was this one. BOY, did it leave me wanting for more! (though I was also scared, because the atmosphere and blood in this game were like a horror movie to me as a kid)
When I was a kid, this was my first Castlevania. I deftly remember sucking horribly and being absolutely careless with my jumps. To me, it didn’t matter if it was on an emulator (in my case, the Gens emulator), or on actual hardware, just as long as I got to experience it firsthand, because I never owned an actual Sega Genesis until years later.
As a 2000s kid, I absolutely loved this game. My uncle gave me a sega genesis and it would be a friday night, lights turned off. I turn on the genesis and the title screens pops up, bright and red. It was scary
No joke, I think it was the best boss theme out of the game. I like the main boss theme as well, but it actually feels less intimidating and nerve wrecking then the mini boss theme. The final boss theme is a joke, though. It almost sounds like it belongs to a different, more silly game. (well, heck, Dracula's very final form in this game is silly instead of intimidating/badass)
How many subweapons are there in the game? (Planning on attempting on making a cosplay/run in Dark Souls as a Belmont from Castlevania, so this would sort of be crucial information to me... )
Hmm... well, I know what I can subsitute for the holy water, which is the spell Dragon's Breath, which has a similar animation... I dunno about the boomerang, but I know they also had throwing knives in some of the older games, and I can use a battle axe for the axe...
That Zeus face boss right before the Moth Queen fight used to be a plague to defeat. And those skeleton gargoyles in the Leaning Tower of Pisa stage were troublesome.
Love that the first boss uses a similar song from the first ever game just before you fight the last boss Dracula, makes you think you’re about to beat him until you go to his coffin that’s open and realise it’s a trap
A game store had this one as playable. That first boss really made a scene. Honestly a really good game. Didn't have the branched paths and characters like CV3 but its a really fun game with a badass soundtrack
Dude, this game has some of the most creative bosses in the whole series, the only other I can think of on par with these boss designs is symphony of the night.
Bloodlines had this interesting contest of fan-designed monsters. Several creative ones like Silhouette Demon mid-boss(which was originally submitted as a stage hazard concept) are one of those.

Well; the armors injured noises sound so cartoony that no one could take this game seriously. And it seems the death noise for half of the bosses sound like someone rocking on an electronic drum set too much.
Yeah, not the best Dracula, and the golem had a bit of a "my body is stone hamburger patties" thing going on, I loved this one for the gameplay though.
This certainly appears to be a combination of Castlevania, Contra, and Dynamite Headdy so there you go. And all the bosses are bouncy because they're made of balls.
The Castlevania I laughed at back in the day when I was a Nintendo fanboy, it didn't look like one in screenshots in EGM. Then my cousin asked me to beat a stage for him in this one, Tower of Pisa (did it in 1 try too), my opinion changed entirely. I bought a Genesis 2-3 years later, Contra Hard Corp, and this freaking game, I was hooked. It felt like Castlevania after all, just on a console I recently had given no chance to. Wish I had gotten his copy, his was clamshell case, mine's cardboard box, it and Hard Corp were Majesco reprints, Toys R Us had them in 1998 for 10 bucks a pop, both games have long exploded in price now though. Come to think of it, I didn't laugh at the Contra screenshots as much, it looked like Contra. Gear Steamer is possibly the most non threatening of the bosses I've ever seen in any of the videos of the games you've played. So far at least. It seemed far more whimsical than dangerous.
Death was a real jerk here.. Instead of the scythess he made you redo every boss before him. But I think it's a good sub final boss tactic. Something different from the other games. Did a good job trying something different

Hang on guys .. kids today like my ten year old get super excited about the latest castlevania season on Netflix, and as a good dad I download and play those old Konami games with him and he loves them all , and that’s the beauty of it , today’s ten year olds don’t understand the one upmanship of which system from 30 years ago was better. Cv3 kids today like , bloodlines ditto and cv4 they think is good. Because they are timeless games

So John Morris was the successful (also lucky) descender for the Vampire killer of the Belmont family, but Johnathan, his grandson - the next owner, isn't.
This is hands down the most difficult game in the series for me, even Castlevania 1 give you a good amount of breathing room and just tells you what will kill you.
After watching a boss run of Rondo of Blood earlier today as of watching this one, I am kinda disappointed with Dracula's final form. It just looks a little bit skinny while in Rondo of Blood, he's a hulk of a monster!
When I played this as a kid, the bosses scared the shit out of me. I even shut the game off one time.

The card within that battle that has you fight on a rotating tower was also really neat

Pretty cool that Bloodlines shows it's subweapons as single instead of dual candles. The spear dude was absolutely badass too.

When you fight Elizabeth, what was the purpose of those floating orbs? It looks like they do nothing.
The Hollanesian If you don’t hurry and attack Elizabeth, the orbs will come together and attack, each orb breaks when you hit her
