Stihl is synonymous with quality equipment. I have a Stihl Farm Boss 041. I purchased it in 1975 and for over 10 years I would cut 20 ricks of wood per year. I have had to have parts like the carburetor, chains, bars, sprokets. But with almost 50 years of service speaks for itself.
Will you be using it just around the house, on land or for work? I personally try to buy the best if at all possible, because it only takes one time to need the bigger one to make you mad about your purchase!
@rapaent As far as I can tell, the only difference is the 135, which I think is the new replacement for the 131 ( I think) has a square running shaft and not round. The shaft length, cc's and bar length are the same. I would have to guess that it may make it a bit stiffer and harder to break. I like the 131 because it's what I am used to. I do not abuse mine, but definitely run it to the limit, and have never broke one? Just use a dealer that will let you use both loaners before spending the money, and you can't go wrong! P.S. if they know you are buying, they will be much more open to the loaners.
@@dowhowerdoesit9426 Thank you John for the great advice & information between the two. I do have a couple good dealers nearby in which I'll ask them for a loaner. Thanks again, appreciate it!
@@rapaent I have a 135 and it works well. My only complaint is the twist lock which doesn't hold solid, hopefully Stihl will redesign this and retro the ones already sold.
Just got my H31 and reading the manual. Have you read the manual? It says 12 inch bar I believe. I thought it was a 14 inch bar. And the Stihl pole saws they cost more what is the difference. I should also mention my Stihl dealer lets me do lay away. Now my chain came off on the first run but seems to be okay. I think the chain got a kink in it.
Awesome, you will love it. My dealer said you can get them with 12 or 14 inch bars, I do have the 14. Remember, there are 2 different chains. You have the stock, and then the yellow marked ones. Yellow is what I run, as they are a bit more aggressive but also more dangerous When the chain is brand new it will stretch a bit, I run it for just a few minutes to warm up and then I retighten.
Sorry, I missed the part about the difference. If you do not cut large with it, the 12inch will be fine. If you are using it daily or very hard all the time, I would go to the 14
It does. You can get a 45-degree extension. But the reason why it's not factory is because it would make the unit very difficult to store and put down. They also make special bars for pole saws. The manufacturer of the bar is called Cannon.
Specifically mine is a FS-250 weed-wacker, with a 14-inch bar pole-saw head attachment, the CCs are the same as my sthil MS-250 chainsaw 42ccs I think it's a beast been keeping 4-1/2 acres in check for around 9-years or more, never been to a repair shop so far, money well spent 😊
The HT 135 is gas. Same engine as the HT 131 but it has a twist lock handle to extend the pole and the pole is square. The battery pole saw is the HTA 135.
@@InLaymansTermsPlease By the time you've bought the 'cheaper' battery model and THEN spring for the battery and charging unit, one's already exceeded the cost of the gas powered 135.
I would have them give you the Echo loaner to use before buying it. I think after testing both, you will lean toward the Stihl. But if you lean towards the Echo, I am sure it will work great for you. This isn't who is right or wrong, but finding the best product for you.
@@dowhowerdoesit9426 I wish they did that but they don’t give out loaner equipment. Not to regular consumers anyway. From talking with them they say the Stihl has more power but the Echo shaft is built better than the Stihl. They also said the local guys that run tree trimming services prefer the straight handled Echo due the shaft being more robust. I have an FC91 edger with a 4 mix engine and have not had any problems but I’ve heard quite a bit that the plastic cam/gear wears out on the 4 mix engines and can ruin the engine.
At $700.00, or more, call a tree trimming service and it's a minimum of $1100.00 to get them to your door. If you can do the branches yourself. This is actually a good buy.
Got a 131 sitting in front me with less than hr run time. Ran good first 20 mins now it doesn't want to start or stay running. Stihl is just like everybody now using cheap Chinese junk carburetors! No more Walbro now it's Zama.
They do use a very high grade aluminum in a lot of their products, but some do have cheaper materials as the price goes down. Unfortunately, you would have to pull up your exact model number to know for sure.
YOU FORGOT TO CUT SOME TREES WITH IT. NOT EVEYONE CAN AFFORD AN $800.00 SAW. ELECTRIC DON'T CUT AS FAST BUT GET THE JOB DONE. I HAVE A DEWALT AND AWSOME . NO FUEL PROBLEMS OR STARTING . OIL FOR THE CHAIN THAT IS IT. BIGGER THE APH BATTERY THE LONGER IT RUNS. CHANGE BAR AND A IN 5 MIN.
I have the HT 131 it a awesome tree saw thanks for the very awesome video.
That was a good review. I been looking into investing in a pole saw and you sold me on the Stihl. Nice truck in the back drop. Work safe. Thank you.
Glad I could help, you will love it
Great choice, you won't regret 🙂 I love all of my stihl products, they've given me trouble free service for many years ☺️

Best saws Stihl makes are the ones made in Germany not the US.
Worshipped this polesaw all 9 minutes 😅 Thanks for the review man!

Gas or battery version?

PICKED UP AN ORIGON 16 INCH BAR AND CHAIN AT TRACTOR SUPPLY FOR $35.00. NOT BAD. CAME WITH A 12 INCH BAR AN CHAIN.

250 is a fixed pole.
