Flawless, fast, upwind, downwind, low winds, high winds, what a boat.
Its easy to understand the sheer frustration Britannia is feeling trying to curb Team NZ.

As a Kiwi, I have to thank you Aussies for getting us interested in the America's cup. Until you guys won it and then held the next event in Fremantle, there was no interest among the average Kiwi in the cup. Then when we had the fastest boat in the beginning of that campion, all of a sudden the whole country became interested in the racing, only to see the Americans (especially Dennis Conner) pull out all the dirty tricks and go on to win.....then it became personal and we were going to win it no matter the cost or how long it took.

Show the VMG more. It's almost like the broadcast team doesn't want the general public to see how much higher ETNZ can sail, to give the illusion of the cup being competitive. We can all see that Taihoro can achieve better angle. Britannia's boat speed means absolutely nothing if they have to sail greater distance/more across the course. Velocity made good is the only number that matters. SHOW. US.

    • @fotodeandre1

    • @joeblack1052

Yeah the last stat on VMG I noticed ETNZ was 0.5 knots faster VMG and that is on a relatively small course with a good breeze
This translates to about 300meters over the course
And notice that is what we are seeing plus I think the NZ boat has more it hasn’t shown
      It hasn’t had to

I’m not a sailor, but after a few races, it seems clear why Team NZ is leading the Series:
    1. Placement of the trimmer on Team NZ gives them better visibility of the foils.
    2. Execution of turns is much faster on Team NZ. I don’t why the other teams haven’t got their turns going as well, considering they’ve had more practice.
    3. Nathan Outerridge is also playing tactician as well as helmsman, whereas the other teams helmsman appear to just be steering.
Anyway, just some thoughts...I’m sure there’s lots of other differences, but I’m just watching from a layman’s view.
    😁

You are confusing spectacular with exciting.
Are those boats spectacular? Of course they are! Everybody saying something different is just stupid.
But is the sailing itself exciting? No, not at all. It is all about boat speed and nothing else. Working with the rules, tactics, nothing which makes the excitement of sailing can be seen. The tacking battle now and then - sailing is much more then that.

@@kallewirsch2263 I don't think it's all about the boats speed.
You are taking away all the hard work and effort that sailors put in making those boats perform as best.
The sailors are people that spend hours every day, for years, to train and get those boat literally glide over the water.
The difference we see between these two boats is not coming out exclusively from the boats "design" but even in how good are the sailors and, even a bit of luck, of catching the right side and the best wind.

The keyboard warriors that are now just starting to watch and make negative comments, if you are not into it then don't watch. I have enjoyed watching the Americas cup from when I was kid. The 80s with all its controversy all the way up until now. Good ol'Dennis Connor and his dirty tactics. The most hated man in the Americas cup. Then Spithill, great sailor. But some of the comments that he has made in press conferences! Then there is Ben Ainslie, he also has said some very unprofessional comments. Team Oracle/Alinghi and all that legal nonsense, court battles craziness. Russell Coutts, selling his soul. But the Team NZ just keeps their head down, keeps trudging forward. Hard work, humble attitude and respect for all those involved. Kiwi ingenuity at the forefront. The best time for the Americas cup was with Sir Peter Blake, get your red socks on! But seeing the pressure put on Dean Barker when Russell bailed was another moment I will never forget. But anyway. Amazing stuff, enjoying every minute. Just a shame about the time zone difference!
