Discussing the recent trade that saw the San Jose Sharks trade forward Ozzy Weisblatt to the Nashville Predators in exchange for forward Yegor Afanasyev.
Supposedly Egor has been contemplating going back to play in Russia because of his lack of opportunity with the Pred's organization. Feels like a classic prospects who need a change of pace trade
I think having that tag of “1st rounder” ended up hurting Weisblatt in the long run. A last ditch effort by the old regime to try and soften the blow of losing out on a third overall pick. Luckily this is one of the last remnants of the dark days and Goodrow is back so it’s all come full circle 😂
Hey Professor, Interesting. I sort of get the feeling that there may be off ice issues that make Wiseblatt more attractive than this other guy? On the face of it it doesn't make sense in terms of production and size? Time will tell. Thanks Professor for the update. Pete Clovis, CA
I have a lot of love for your channel. I have a simple production suggestion: How about a collared shirt? I just think that might help grow your channel. All the best,
I dont think Afanasyev wants to return to the AHL cuz he told preds that if they dont promised playing time in the NHL, he would be back to Russia, since his entry contracts ends this year. I do think the Sharks will give him a place as a 3rd liner, and he earned it.
That seems to be theory right now, we shall see what the Sharks do with him then. Weisblatt was such a long shot to ever make any impact that even losing Afanasyev to the KHL doesn’t make this trade too bad.
@@professorhockey Yea, lets see what happens. Interesting to see Grier looking for big body guys lately and shaping up the bottom 6 forwards, would be interesting to see a line of Egor, Goodrow and Dellandrea.
I really liked ozzy but he never really panned out as expected. I think being selected in the 1dt round was a weight on him. Still, this trade helps balance my sourness of the Goodrow situation
I don’t understand why Nashville agreed to the deal but I’ll take it haha

@@CLew9 that and he’s not waivers exempt so this is really a win win for us
Rumor is Afanasyev was going to go to the KHL if he didn't get NHL time and the Predators didn't want to give him that.

Time will tell on this trade. Nashville must have seen some talent in Weisblatt they could develop. Not the best look for the sharks development org.

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll consider it

Good video professor
Chances are he’s headed to the KHL.
Id say he sticks here with more of an opportunity with san jose
We need more players in this mold. Heavy on the puck. Also love that he’s Russian, should be a tough son of a gun
