    Most of us didn’t expect Dickinson to be there after 6 so that’s why people wanted Buium because we all thought trading up to 8 is a possibility. We got 2 insanely talented players that will be huge for the rebuild 🙌🏽

    Can’t ask for a better day. I think Anaheim going way off the board really jumbled up that top 12. I couldn’t believe all the options available at 11. Dickinson could be just what the sharks need a good solid defensemen with some offensive upside that doesn’t sacrifice play in his own end.

    Thank you for the breakdown. I'm glad I wasn't the only one that was mentioning the Kasper Halttunen pairing. They ran the point on the #1 PP in OHL @ 32.6%. Also, Dickinson was rated as the best skater, regardless of position, in the draft. He'll be our Scott Neidermeyer. I can't wait!

    I think people are going off of recency bias when expressing being upset over not taking Buium. I only noticed him in the offensive zone and not at all in the defensive zone. He's currently a one way player I think. I like having someone that can potentially be a fringe shutdown defenseman with some offensive upside in Dickinson.

      @professorhockey  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think many believe Buium lands somewhere in the middle defensively. He may not be as developed in that area as someone like Dickinson or Silayev, but is squarely ahead of players like Parekh and Yakemchuk.

    I had eyes for Buium, but holy smokes it was because I expected Dickinson to be gone in the top 5. Over the moon with big money mike and the draft they put together. Gonna be one of those classes we look back on in 10 years without a doubt

    Surprised that Buium lasted to 12. Would have looked good in Teal. Hight a factor.

    Im so satisfied with the well roundedness of this draft (draft round)
    I was happy with Macklin, i was ecstatic with Dickinson.
    A 2 way defenseman with size.
    Thank you again hockey gods.

    Great analysis as always Professor! After the awful season we had this year its nice to see you excited again about the Sharks, I know after many losses you could barely recap some of the losses because they were so bad, now with the draft its all worth it. Thanks again for your great analysis Professor!

    I love this first round by the Sharks! To get Dickinson at 11 is insane. Now they need to pick either Dominik Badinka, (my choice) or Charlie Elick at 33. I know Cole Hutson is still there but we already have a highly skilled undersized D-man who just signed his ELC in Luca Cagnoni. Time to get the big strong RD to pair with a Dickinson, Mukhamadullin, or maybe even Cagnoni. Great job by Mike Grier, but there is still work to be done.

    • @SharksOregon
      @SharksOregon 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely hoping for Badinka or Elick too don’t really care which either would be an amazing 33

    Securing the number 1 pick in this draft could be the moment that us sharks fans look back on in 10 or so years as the beginning of our new dynasty. I am so excited and hopeful for the future of this team!

    I also noticed that Buium was preferred over Dickinson but I really believe he was the best choice and has all the tools to be an elite level defensive player.

    • @professorhockey
      @professorhockey  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I think they will both end being great players. Whoever ends up being better is anyone’s guess but I don’t think the Sharks will be too upset with their choice either way.

  • @joelvinson
    @joelvinson 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This is really fantastic analysis. When the Sharks traded, my first thought was ' They're going for Yakemchuk". And if I'm being honest, DIckinson wasn't even on my radar. Which is dumb, because Haltunnen (sp?) and Musty are already coming from the Knights. DIckinson has some great size for a kid that skates so well, so I can definitely not complain. If anything, I should apologize for not knowing Dickinson's game as well as I should. In my defense, I've been on the Cole Hutson train for months now...And he's still available. He's barely 18, and is one of the best skating beasts in the whole draft. Dickinson has the size and the two-way flexibility, so I understand. It might be a fanboy luxury pick, but if the Sharks can land Hutson, 2-3 years we're gonna have the next Paul Coffey. And if ain;t the SHarks, well. Im jealous of whomever gets this kid. He's gonna be special.

    • @professorhockey
      @professorhockey  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hutson is definitely an exciting name, one of the highest potential value picks he could make at 33. But knowing Grier, he may go with a player who he feels is a safer option. Maybe at 53 if he is still available, though it is doubtful by then.

    The only bad news tonight is Sharks are most likely (as expected) going to sign Kunin, but it's reported it's only a single yea, at 2.75M as projected. Maybe if he does better, we can trade at the TDL

      I don’t see the problem with keeping a guy like Kunin around. High energy glue guy that stands up for his teammates. He was only playing top 6 minutes last year because of injuries.

    Hey Professor,
    What a day! I am very pleased with the way the trade up worked for us and it's great to see a valuable defensive prospect join Shakir in our system now. Lord knows we need more and hopefully we will get the chance in the coming years to add to that pool of players.
    We definitely need to start adding goalie prospects to our system as well since we have not much there right now but, I definitely feel like defense is THE most critical area of need right now and I am so pleased to see one of the quality defensive prospects from this draft in the fold now.

    Sharks whiffed on only real choice they had today. Celebrini was a given, but Buium was the pick at 11. Sharks went for high floor top 4 D, the safe pick, instead of player with elite potential already showing he can take over games. Rather have Ekblad or Niedermayer?

    • @HitmanHockeyCards
      @HitmanHockeyCards 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Grier koolaid drinkers will tell you your wrong, but you are 100% right. Sharks had the golden goose of this years draft Dmen fall into their laps and Grier dropped the egg - which is totally expected of Grier to do. Guy is a bafoon.

    • @professorhockey
      @professorhockey  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s certainly possible that it was a mistake, only time will tell. Though I will say, as sad as it would be to miss out on Niedermayer, Ekblad isn’t too bad a player to get as a consolation.
