Kikaimaru the problem has nothing to do with plastic leaking chemicals due to the fact they’re talking about disposable plastic cups, not reusable ones, which is the only place this becomes an issue. Any reusable container for hot drinks uses an internal sheet of metal to avoid this anyway, so it’s not even much of an issue there.

It degrades, its easyer to recycle and it suoports foresters meaning more trees grow.
I oppose the "paperless" trend strongly. We need to make more paper products. The larger the market for paper, the larger the production of it, therefore more forests. Way better than plastic or any material really.

None of the sharks brought up the fact that the cups release more CO2 when produced than the 500 paper cups (at most) they'd be replacing and they don't biodegrade. Literally the product is worse for the environment than the paper cups were. The paper cups break down and come from forests that are typically replanted after each harvest. A single tree can provide all of the paper required for your paper cups for the life time of this product. If you're thinking about buying something like this then just pay the arbor day foundation to plant a couple of trees instead. It'll be cheaper and better for the environment.

As they giggled their way in, and even when they first stood in front of those hungry sharks I said to myself, "Self, Isn't it illegal to advertise what they are selling?" and then found out it wasn't THAT at all. In Canada it is mandated that all coffee cups etc must be recyclable, and the manufacturers have developed non-waxed, paper cups that are a very practical replacement. We no longer have that problem. Why counties/governments do not share information like this or anything else as soon as there is a solution to a problem I do not know.
