This was so funny. Every feminist cries about the wage gap, and Steve acknowledges it, references the fact that studies uncovered(women on average work less hours and are more likely to choose family) because sales dropped 40% in year 2. She said it was because she was a mom. Steve gives her advice about being timid and needing to be more confident(she undervalued her business so she could have a shoulder to cry on), everyone calls Steve sexist but won't invest, until another woman takes her devalued valuation and increases ownership % offered by 50%(20%-30%), and completely takes advantage of her....but Steve is sexist lol
The fact tht she only got a deal because she was a female makes it more hilarious, if it was a male the first words would've been f*** off. She is also not an enterprunere practically. She sells cushions .

yeah but they didn't. they didn't even say anything to him which just proves his point even further. just because you are a women doesn't mean you get special treatment. remember women want equality. the problem is, women don't really want equality as much as they want equality of outcome instead of equality of opportunity. As a side note, women need to stop using their children and being moms as some kind of leverage when it comes to explaining why things didn't work out for them. no one made her have a child and if she chose to have a child she needs to live with the consequences of having children. how many times do you here men use being a father as an excuse for not getting things done when they needed to get done?
@@P2thaOckets ever thought about how the editing is done? They may as well have said something and they edited it out to show that Steve is probably right? Jeanine looked like she was over it, and Naomi reacted as well. They kept Glen’s pushback though.

Years ago, I was a representative for a hotel supplier in the US. We were introduced to a sunbeam line of outdoor chairs to be placed by the hotels’ pools (to sell them to these hotels). I remember being very impressed with the product (style and functionality) and I sold a few of them.
Burning out is the worst thing that can happen to you! People warned me about it but I never really listened. If you're reading this, dont burn out! Balance your lifestyle accordingly!
Unsustainably high revenues in the first two years and a constant downtrend since, is a terrible sign. Either the sales were heavily reliant on PR, media and hype, or just sheer luck. I typically do not agree with a lot of the sharks' criticisms (for example the episode on Stan Kruss of Expocentric), but in this episode I do think the criticism was well justified. Pillows don't generate any significant repeat business, and the scope for differentiation is bleak. Good on her, for securing the investment, but not a good deal imo.
40avo Yes you could say that but that’s also the point Steve was making. She’s too agreeable and easily walked over. She needs to try be more disagreeable and stand up for what she thinks. It is a fact that agreeable people don’t progress as far or have as many opportunity’s as disagreeable people. It’s also a fact that women tend to be more agreeable than disagreeable. Nothing sexist was said. Edit: This person I was having a conversation has removed their comments therefore I look like a babbling idiot.
Steve was right about her tho... Naomi hinted that she wanted to negotiate just because it was the Shark thing to do, I think she would have been able to lower the equity given or even convince her to do the 20% if she emphasized that her valuation was already fair and generous
I don't get why they're so shocked at what Steve is saying. He's correct. It's factually true that generally, women are inherently less aggressive then men. 🤷♀️
That is incorrect. Whatever correlation you (think you) are seeing is a mixture of societal pressure and confirmation bias. If you had said women are on average less agressive, that argument would have a leg to stand on but saying that women are inherently less agressive is just plain wrong. Also, he claims that the timidity is related to the gender pay gap. Now, as far as I can understand, the gender pay gap doesn't exist when controlling for industry but if it does, blaming women being too timid for paying them less is some class a bullshit and victim blaming.
There is not really a pay gap, only a wage gap due to the types of industries women and men are attracted to. Men typically are drawn to job positions which deal with things, are high risk and pay more, they also work more overtime hours, and don't take as much time off. Women are more attracted to service and office positions dealing with people, they don't work as much overtime, and also take more time off. Women and men both ask for raises about the same, but men are more likely to get them and more likely to negotiate for a higher raise. Part of that is due to their inherent overconfidence, and are more prone to take higher risks, they have more leverage to work with given they can show more hours worked, and tend to over value themselves. They'll ask high, and settle for lower but still high. Women are more calculating and less likely to engage in risky behavior, they tend to under value themselves in what they believe is "fair", they're less likely to be confrontational so will already begin by pitching a low number and either settling for their low number or even less. This isn't victim blaming, this is stating simple truths backed by several independent studies. Pointing out sociological differences between the two is not victim blaming. There's no grand conspiracy or systemic prejudice at fault for why women get payed less in general. Sure there might be odd cases of prejudice here or there, but those are rare and barely have any impact on this wage gap.
As a woman I agree with Steve 100% It’s harder for women in business and he told her the truth that no else would. It’s good he didn’t sugar coat yea it seems sexist but it’s sadly the truth
@K B Dont know about that 7x part, but women would do much better than men at sales and retail solely because of the agreeableness and kindness women generally have, which would make the customers buy whatever they recommend
@K B also women didn't do all that you just said that much. Traditional gender roles are a consequence of the higher brain to body ratio we have, and thus are older than any human civilization. So women have always been staying mainly indoors so idk what you're talking about 😅

It is a fact that agreeable people don’t progress or have as many opportunities as a disagreeable person does. It’s also a fact that more women tend to be agreeable than disagreeable. It was not a sexist comment at all.

100% agreed. lot's of times, being kind won't help. People thrive on anger and frustration. Telling them everything is good won't let them become motivated to push for the next level.
@ you're so quick to give this woman shit that I'm assuming you've also single handedly built a business while raising a toddler but obviously from your replies all through the comment section you did it a lot better....well done! Do you need a badge?
Sewing is tedious, especially if you're sewing with piping. No comparison to what the women on the panel did to grow their businesses. Some of their comments were not at all fair. Kudos to you lady for doing as well as you did by yourself.
Blaming women being "too timid" for paying them less is victim blaming. Saying " for a female" or " for a male" about anything non-biological is sexist. If I said someone has really big breasts for a male, what I said would be rude but it would be stating a fact. If I said someone was too emotional for a male, what I said would be sexist.
Steve had some solid points. Even if he phrased them extremely poorly. She let the job become work and overwhelm her and that's why she slowed down. Yeah, she had a child. But that's a life choice, and a personal decision. It has nothing to do with business. It's an excuse that can only carry a person so far before it becomes tired and meaningless. If she starts letting her work slip because of it, it shouldn't be her expectation that people pick up the slack for her. They have their own lives and their own problems. Her expectation should be that, once she starts slipping, she gets sacked. Because that's the cruel reality of enterprise. Your competition isn't going to take a day off just because you do. If anything, they should work harder to steal those extra sales from you. Because they have bills to pay and mouths to feed too. It's not personal, and it's not sexist. It's business.
Well done steve, I'm sure it was heavily edited but what I saw is he pushed her to actually show some interest. When she started droning on about being tired, everyone was out. He helped her.
This clip shows you how no matter what valuation, fair or 20 times more than what the business is really worth, no matter what person is presented in front of the sharks, humble or arrogant, whether the business is profitable or not, proven or not, these investors will always find a way to break you, your life’s work and your business, then ask you for a big chunk of it for the same amount of money.
Also she’s definitely too timid, I’ve been watching The Australian version for a while and they’re too quick to invest a lot of times the people come out as scammers I even works for a few of them and they’re triangle schemes. They need to stop being so timid and stop worrying about how people feel and work with logic
its so refreshing to see that the world believe that women are the enemy of woman but actually women are the first person that supports and comfort the other woman.
There's a documentary, a slice of life piece, worth checking out about Australians to give you even more insight into their day to day living. It's called Crocodile Dundee.
"why do you think there's a female pay gap, because there is." That's a weird comment considering the countless times it's been refuted in recent years. (Also, if you're going to argue the wage gap, I would say there's a massive difference between a wage gap and a pay gap)
@@shantaeforsmash8287 There's a chance that there's a valid argument for it, but it's almost always as simple as "look at the ingredients" The most popular two examples usually being shampoo and deodorant, the materials used to make each one are drastically different. It's absolutely unreasonable to claim that they SHOULD cost the same. For things like razors, I can't really help ya. th-cam.com/video/0xVkUBAUQhA/w-d-xo.html This is a decent video on the subject.
Right. Like a male football player would earn a lot more than the female. In the fashion industry, female models earn a lot more than men. Supply and Demand.
@Ruvin Eric Perez giving examples of cases where women earn more and men earn more doesn't prove anything. Statistically there is a gap, no one ever said that gap exists for every job.
She said she’s burnt out yet wants to do big resorts etc… honey pick one, are you burnt out or are you gonna put your all in to get to that resort level because you can’t be/have both.
I often find it interesting when people lump a set of traits together and say you need to be aggressive. What does aggressive mean, not taking no for an answer is actually being tenacious, not wavering is being focused or driven. None of these traits rely on being aggressive. Even having heart and being able to weather the storm has nothing to do with aggression. Aggression would be reserved for those moments when sometimes tries to rip your business appart and undermine you in a way that is destructive to your business. Then the initial response may be aggression however a level head and being straight to the point would be more appropriate. So unless I'm trying to take over someone else business or squash everyone else in my sector I really can't see how being aggressive as a single trait helps.
@@ThePrimeMinisterOfTheBlock so answer me this who asks for anyone comments on youtube? What exactly did you original comment bring of value? The walking over is the issue. Women don’t need to do anything further, you’ve just been conditioned to think women need to do more. There’s no reason for women to be walked over if you believe anything contrary you clearly are the person that walks over them. It’s your fault.

"I turned over 792k in my first year and 2.6 million in total" "I want to value my entire business at 200k" I'm sorry what?! She's valuing her business on 3 months turnover. Should've come in with double the money for half the equity
The last year was only 344k though and the decreasing sales is alarming. Also, she clearly needs a lot of help. At least you used calculations to back up your statement, though, unlike everyone in the comments that make up valuations out of thin air.
@@UniDocs_Mahapushpa_Cyavana fair point. I still think she could have got a higher valuation if she had come in with a higher valuation. I've seen people on the AUS shark tank get a deal of 4 times their annual turnover! That's extreme but it just shows there was definitely a lot of room for a higher valuation if she played it smart. I reckon if she came in with a 400k valuation she wouldve left with at least a 200k valuation, maybe more. but because she came in at 200k, the sharks always feel the need to negotiate no matter what so they brought it down to $133k.

Steve is absolutely right!! That wasn’t sexist it was to give her the opportunity to redeem herself to the others bc he was already out! Steve is the best hearted person on this show!!!! Andrews is great too!
I know the sturggle..but my oh my i think what red dress lady is spot on. The lady doesnt need money investment .che just need a helping hand in marketing.
She admitted that from the start
You repeated what the woman said when in fact the real question is how will she scale her operations if they do go global? That would mean even more boxes to pack and labels to stick.
To an entrepreneur that goes "Ohhhhhhhh thank you~" at an offer before its even spelled out and doesnt blink when giving out 30% for a stupid valuation. I would run far far away from her...
Of all the Shark Tank Aus episodes I've seen this is one of the few that made me genuinely happy. She was so nice and I felt like I'm rooting for her. Wish you all the best. ❤️
🙈 the female sharks looked like they were about to get up and kick Steve ass
But they didn’t because they’re timid
@@P2thaOckets Damn son
@pocky bee i'd call it civil but alright
yeah but they didn't. they didn't even say anything to him which just proves his point even further. just because you are a women doesn't mean you get special treatment. remember women want equality. the problem is, women don't really want equality as much as they want equality of outcome instead of equality of opportunity.

Just bought a cushion! It’s so comfortable

One from the this lady? Or one from the store? Lol, cause those do not look comfortable in the least tbh 😅😂 but they do look nice
Paul Bradley yes
She is burnt out that is for sure. She has tried doing it single highhandedly, then coming into the tank with all those burnt out emotions is not a good look to start a business. It's good that she got an offer.
I like how she hugged Steve even after the fight lol
I love it... “ Steve, get over it mate... our house, cushions are everywhere! “

Steve : "Women tend to do that" Everyone loses their minds
Haha true. He becomes a pig, she doesn't become anything. :D bullshit
I feel she was ripped off. She probably would've sold the entire company for 200k.
Years ago, I was a representative for a hotel supplier in the US. We were introduced to a sunbeam line of outdoor chairs to be placed by the hotels’ pools (to sell them to these hotels). I remember being very impressed with the product (style and functionality) and I sold a few of them.

she's that kind of women "cry until someone feels pitty and helps" xD
Unsustainably high revenues in the first two years and a constant downtrend since, is a terrible sign. Either the sales were heavily reliant on PR, media and hype, or just sheer luck. I typically do not agree with a lot of the sharks' criticisms (for example the episode on Stan Kruss of Expocentric), but in this episode I do think the criticism was well justified. Pillows don't generate any significant repeat business, and the scope for differentiation is bleak. Good on her, for securing the investment, but not a good deal imo.
Steve gettin talked back to at 6:25 had him looking like he couldent even believe somone stood up for themselves
"shaking, shaking, shaking, champagne"
What?!?! 🤷🏻♀️
L.C Marie idek like wtf
That was hilarious LOL
They are always “i am out” nonsense
She rushed. A true entrepreneur would’ve tried to negotiate to 25%
40avo Yes you could say that but that’s also the point Steve was making.
@@efeyzee timidity IS related to the gender pay gap. Every controlled study ever done proves so. Who are you?
@@unknownchannel3141 sources please?
@@unknownchannel3141 and also, even if it is true, it's still victim blaming to say "Women aren't fighting hard enough for raises."
As a woman I agree with Steve 100%
It’s harder for women in business and he told her the truth that no else would. It’s good he didn’t sugar coat yea it seems sexist but it’s sadly the truth
@K B Dont know about that 7x part, but women would do much better than men at sales and retail solely because of the agreeableness and kindness women generally have, which would make the customers buy whatever they recommend
@K B didn't read this yet, but what exactly are you referring to sales? I meant mainly retail jobs and Direct selling to customers
@K B also i don't understand anything you just said could you sum in up please? 😅
@K B also women didn't do all that you just said that much. Traditional gender roles are a consequence of the higher brain to body ratio we have, and thus are older than any human civilization. So women have always been staying mainly indoors so idk what you're talking about 😅
@K B hello?

How was anything Steve said sexist, it's object reality lol.
Seems she was trying to blame anything but herself for the shortcomings.
These are not sharks, these are piranhas.

40000 for 20% in a well managed business and the lady had to go through hell.

"why do you think there's a female pay gap, because there is."
That's a weird comment considering the countless times it's been refuted in recent years.

@@shantaeforsmash8287 There's a chance that there's a valid argument for it, but it's almost always as simple as "look at the ingredients"
The most popular two examples usually being shampoo and deodorant, the materials used to make each one are drastically different. It's absolutely unreasonable to claim that they SHOULD cost the same.

Right. Like a male football player would earn a lot more than the female. In the fashion industry, female models earn a lot more than men. Supply and Demand.
It hasn't been refuted. Even PragerU acknowledges it. They just claim it is insignificant.
@Ruvin Eric Perez giving examples of cases where women earn more and men earn more doesn't prove anything. Statistically there is a gap, no one ever said that gap exists for every job.

Hi, I'm Jenny and because Steve is in the Shark Tank, I'm out.
....Hi Jenny, where are you from mate ??
Thanks for this technical deconstruction that nobody asked fro

The walking over is the issue. Women don’t need to do anything further, you’ve just been conditioned to think women need to do more. There’s no reason for women to be walked over if you believe anything contrary you clearly are the person that walks over them. It’s your fault.
