  • Kylie Bradford went into the Tank seeking a $40k investment and in return, offers 20% of Piccaninny Tiny Tots, Bradford grew up in Kakadu and her products feature designs that have been passed down through her family for generations. The Sharks always knew there was a niche in the market, but could never put their finger on it.
An international sensation, Shark Tank AUS features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Tank from our Sharks, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

It doesn't matter if you personally don't find something offensive, if your goal is to make a global brand, then your name needs to translate correctly and not be offensive in other cultures. Chevy learned this when they tried to sell their "Nova" car in Mexico. In Spanish, "Nova" means "It doesn't go", so their sales suffered. It didn't matter that the Chevy execs knew that the car worked, they didn't think about how the model's name would be interpreted in other cultures.

For those who aren’t understanding the slur bit of it, it’s an old American (specifically Southern) term that basically means “little” (ninny) “picker” (picca).
So it’s essentially referring to children of plantation slaves. Basically like “the hard R” aimed specifically at children.
Just because it means something else in “the Northern Territory” has no bearing here. After all, there’s another very specific American word that is the Spanish word for “black”. So. Yeah.
She seemed like a nice enough lady and just genuinely ignorant of the negative connotation of the word. I don’t think she meant it in a flippant way when she said “everyone still uses it”. But. Maybe that’s just me.

Am surprised that no investor suggested that name, considering her current Company name meant "little one". i graduated Business College in 2019, so i understand how a bad name can ruin your business. i am starting a soap company called EVOLUTION SOAP COMPANY, however it used to be SOAP REVOLUTION. Was a cool name, yet a revolution refers to war. i wanted my brand to be seen as more peaceful. Kakadu sounds like poop to me (no offence) and even though babies poop a lot in their diapers, to many potential customers, this name would still come across as gross. A Kakadu is also an Aboriginal bird. You see, picking the best name for your business is crucial. if Kakadu means an Aboriginal bird and there are turtles printed on the clothing, the brand is already disconnected.
