I've never realised how much the internet makes subarus look impossible to work with until I've seen this video. I always thought the engine (without turbos and all the good stuff) would be over $40k and everything else would be a pain to deal with. This video actually brought my hopes up because building my dream car seems so much more attainable.
They're really not as bad as people make them out to be, most of thr EJs are pretty much Legos. The FAs are a little annoying but super easy platform to work with and alot of misinformation out there 🙏

@@Smeedia Yeah saw the case halves damage, that's a serious kick in the pants when you're as over the top as you are. But seems like you've got a good plan ahead. Really really trying not to think about doing something like this!

Delta did my cams as well, sent it to them from here in Nevada... I get giggling when I tell people I have "stock" cams😉 Great video, I wanted to know what all was done.
Torque plates just simulate the heads being there, so when honing they are torqued down, making the cylinders oval equal to what they will be when you put on your heads. If you bore/hone without torque plates the bore would be oval once you torque your heads down :D
@@Smeedia wondered about the same once :D loving the build btw, got an outfront ej257 with closed deck and their 1/2" studs myself :D they do great work!

I got you 🙏🙌 th-cam.com/play/PLgZu_5-bBqBZUsNLhqyMHq-j5JT_NIJlt.html Still at Fabrication, just waiting on parts and time for the fabricator to keep going
From what I remember the svx piston cylinder is 96.9 mm and the ej22 being 98mm yet only a 1/8th inch “ difference under what the ej22 piston spec out at in Mm , nothing a little honing boring to that point would fix
12k is not surprising that's pretty much the price for any racing engine. And it a sense you had to create one so not bad... except for FedEx dropping it. Can wait to hear that thing!
The exhaust ports on the heads are completely stock port and sized valves? Just curious what your logic was behind opening up the intake side but not the exhaust side. Thx, good video as always
Im planning on having my mechanic swap in a stock eg33 to my 05 Saab 9-2x aero. I don’t think I’m gonna turbo it just yet but we’ll see what the future holds.
Speaking of Subaru engines. Several years ago I bought a book about the Subaru Impreza and in it there was some history of Subaru, and it included a prototype racing engine they developed many years ago that was a 12-cylinder boxer engine. I think it was for F1. Of course it didn’t go anywhere and as we all know Subaru moved on to rallying.

Awesome! I've got a boosted EZ30R in my car, but the motor is still stock aside from head studs. What did the reground cams cost you to do? I'd be interested in doing my exhaust cams, as they're quite small in lift & duration for a turbo setup. Would increase engine safety and maybe aid spool :)
