Rock Tumbler Shutdown & Maintenance

  • In this video I shut down my tumblers before leaving on a very long road trip to go rockhounding (of course). I give you a look at what's in each drum, and take the downtime opportunity to do some needed maintenance on the tumblers. I'll have tons of cool new rocks when I get back from the trip.     Hi Mike, You are 100% correct to clean out the barrels before your trip! Slurry cement at the bottom of an idle barrel is terrible to clean up! All the rocks are looking really nice! Looking forward to seeing the jasper & Turritella all polished! Thumbs up! Jim

    I have just washed them off like you normally would between grits if you are concerned with any grit drying in any cracks. I left the rocks in the strainer and the barrels open (i.e, didn't put the lids on and seal them. But, your method should keep them from getting dusty while gone.
