Look at how far the industry has come. I remember purchasing the original Rode Wireless Film-Maker Kit for $399 back in like 2015. We now have two transmitters, 32 bit float internal recorder, and a much smaller unit.
    Well done to Rode.

      Well...
Filmmaker's Kit is still the KING 👑 in an out of line of sight situation.
This is something that has not been improved in almost the last decade.
Is this something, or what ?
Nevertheless, Wireless PRO is an astonishing piece of technology.
Congratulations to RODE for making it happen in an affordable pricing. They deserve all the credit.

The 'every 4 hours' timecode jam will be because the timing crystals in most cameras can vary by a field (half a frame on 25/30 fps cameras) every 30 mins - the Rode devices themselves might be more accurate but this re-jamming will be because of the variance in cameras.

He mentioned It a little bit. He said he did wish they upgraded the actual onboard mics for these bur was dissapointed they are the same from previous versions. You don't get higher audio quality with the bit rate of the file. 32 bit just has more information, so in post, you can bring up quiet sources without bringing up a high noise floor. And on the opposite end, if the source audio is too hit and distorted. It's like dynamic range on a camera or even the data speed which it records at. More information, more flexibility in post.

A huge feature that many of these wireless lavs don't include anymore is the ability to switch frequencies, like on the Sennheiser G3's for example. I have (2) Wireless Pro Systems. Two things they should add are these. #1- A way to to Jam Sync Timecode from an external device or at the very least, a way to Sync 2 or more receivers to each other. #2 - A Timecode Mode where Left channel outputs Transmitter 1, Right channel outputs Transmitter 2, and the USB can output or input Timecode.

I would hope these can be achieved via firmware.

I was JUST ABOUT to pull the trigger on the DJI mic kit for my first lav set as I start my first YT channel ... and then I saw this. Honestly, I've never worked with timecodes and I have no idea how much 32-bit float will actually improve the sound quality, but this has high quality, more features, and a better price if you consider than DJI does not include separate attachable lav mics, which I was going to have to buy, so that pushes the DJI price up from $330 to over $400. If anyone knows of a BETTER lav mic kit for a beginning TH-camr let me know. This looks like the one to me. I've worked as a voice over with my own home recording booth, so I'm familiar with audio editing and not afraid of working with the extra features in this Rode system.

If I understand it correctly, there is no option to jam sync the rode time code from an external source. This makes the great addition of timecode kind of limited for bigger applications. It would be nice if you could jam sync the transmitters trough the input jack, imo this could be done with a software update.

  • @liamdanielmcevoy6622

I would absolutely love if in future firmware you could jam-sync the timecode of the receiver from an external source. It sounded like in the Q&A that they are working on that. I've tried unsuccessfully to jam the TC of my Atomos (Timecode systems) One, using the rode as the master. In a perfect world you could slave multiple Rode kits to a master TC generator via RF or BlueTooth (at the least)

After listening to the improvements section, I am finding many of the requests being beyond the price point. Also many of the features being asked for about audio routing and muxing can be done using multitrack recorders or similar. The adapter cables are already available from other companies, quite easily.
Many of the features you are calling out are available from other brands already, but at a higher price. Given the target market and price for the products, I think the package is pretty much nailing it.

Also - there was a HUGE bug with the RODE and the FX3 - when using the Rode Go II or any rode wireless - into the built in mic port of the FX3 - there was a bad grounding issue - this does not happen with DJI wireless mics - does it happen with the PROs?

If they can let us receive timecode in the Rode transmitter units, this will make very productive timecode and will let us even have more mics on the field with the same timecode., Timecode will be usable in short shoots with only one camera for now. I have been using it in some sports jobs the Hollyland marks and the menus are awesome and the quality build is the best. The 32-bit float is the attractive part of these units.

I can think of two :) One would be the inability to disable the record on/off button while recording. At the very least it should be a long hold to turn off recording, similar to Tentacle. The 2nd is not having bluetooth so you can monitor/start-stop recording/adjust settings via you phone. Plugging in directly is a decent option but not practical during a shoot. Otherwise it seems great. I'm enjoying playing around with it right now.

Initially very into this but since you mention a desire for Rode to create a time code accessory, might be good to have a look at what @Justin Porter Media is saying about Rode's approach to time code generation and possible shortcomings. Something to be aware of for multicam shoots, which for my work isn't a dealbreaker. This new release still brings a lot.

I’m trying to get the best sound on a stage about 150 feet away (i generally do small theater jobs) from a Sony a7s DSLR. Can’t figure out if the quality of the sound would be better just throwing one of these little wireless transmitters on the stage floor or putting the videomic + shotgun on the dlsr…or 3rd option which is using both by connecting the shotgun to wireless pro near theater speakers. Thanks by the way.

Might not matter to some but the best part about this for me is the change of branding... both the change to the 0 logo and also the darker colour of it, the big white R0DE logo was just obnoxious advertisement and this makes it feel and look more like a product i'm using because it's the best and i want to rather than a product i'm forced to use because it's cheap or i'm sponsored or something lol, it's kinda crazy the power of good vs bad branding and i think they should honestly move to this version on all their products it looks far more professional & still very easy too recognise

Why do create a system that records 6 channel so up to 6 transmitter could connect. Still only 2 is not pro

when you turn on the rode go 2 transmitter it starts recording without needing a receiver. so the record button on the go2 didnt bring isolated recording, it only brings the ability for you to stop recording, and i dont see why i would want to stop recording on the transmitter.

A deal breaker for me is... The pro will not accept timecode from anything else. This would close the doors on versatility for these mics it would seem.

As always great first impressions/review video! But I do have a question: can the receiver change the gain of the transmitters individually? Like, if I want to have one at -12 and the other at -6? And I understand that with 32 bit float probably negates this need but still.. less editing is less editing.

Mute? Did Rode show that the transmitter is on mute, either by changing one of the light colours or blink speed change

Gr8 review! 1. Any thoughts on battery life? My Go II receiver randomly cuts off the power after maybe 18 months of usage. 2. Did you notice any of the occasionally hissing noise that the prev model has? Cheers!

Could the Rodes Pro be integrated with your idea for the ultimate record center, to sync time between the recording and the remote wireless audio.

Great video, as always. I do have a few questions: can I record internally 32.-bit rate and, at the same time, send the signal to the camera? Also, does it bring any cable that allow me to connect and use the rode with my iphone? Finally, a suggestion to rode: there has to be a way to be able to connect more than 2 TX; 4 would be great.

All these have issues at some distance if there is people moving in between the mic and receptor, same the DJI, can’t be compared to Shenheiser

I've been using my Rode Videomic NTG as an input to one of the Rode Wireless Go II transmitters as a wireless boom mic set up for about a year now. After seeing the new Comica VM30 shotgun mic being sold as a way to do exactly that I was kinda expecting the next Rode wireless mic system to include it. Or maybe even just tease it as a future option.
I love the idea of upgrading to 32 bit float and better controls on board and screw on lav connectors, but the price is a little above what I was expecting. Also, you stated it was $499, but both rode and B&H have it listed for $399.
