  • In this video we are taking a look at a new 4K 8 megapixel camera from Reolink which features local AI with Person and Vehicle detection and recording. It can send push notifications and emails when a person or vehicle is detected, all done local on the camera, meaning no cloud subscription or fees to pay. But how good is it and how good is the image quality from that 4K sensor? Let's find out!

      atm they run with 128 or 256gb micro sd, they are still holding the first videos from back in january, so they dont even need to save to a nas, spacewise.

    I find that having push notifications enabled for motion detection is practically useless with my 4K D800 cameras, as even just the sun coming out from behind the clouds is enough to set off the motion sensors, even with sensitivity set as low as possible. Glad to hear there were no false positives with these new AI cameras.

    Thank you very clear video. I'd have liked to see exactly how to set up the AI bit on vehicle and person detection. You say when a person or vehicle "enters the frame" and by this I take it to mean the whole of the FoV of the camera, which is what I've previous had confirmed by Reolink support on their previous models. I had hopes that with the newer 4K cameras this might have updated to be more specific similar to the HIKVision intrusion detection where you can define the area against which you want the detection event to send an alert. This means for me where I have a road in front of the house the vehicle/person detection is alerting when anyone is passing the house rather than when they cross the property line. Reolink seem to be good products and well priced but they lack the functionality I need. Unless of course I have misunderstood how they operate?

    • @SBBUK
      @SBBUK ปีที่แล้ว

      Bit of a late reply but i've got a Reolink NVR and 4k cameras (models RLC810 and RLC822) and I can set up a detection area to disable alerts for that area. The main difference between this newer software and the old one is that it can generate alerts specifically for person and vehicles, as well as the general motion alerts. You can set up a push notification for only person/vehicle and ignore general motion (e.g. you don't have to exclude a plant moving in the wind from the detection). That way, you are not spending days trawling through alerts. In my experience, it works very well. I've not had any false positives.

    • @ralphtaylor9968

    I bought a couple of these after doing quite a bit of research. The field of view is VERY narrow, so much so that I returned them. From the wall of my house, the camera could not capture the whole width of fence at the back of my garden. Other than that they are very good cameras, but if you planning to cover say a whole garden, then they're useless.

    Would you recommend this (the RLC-810a) over the 5MP Zoom cameras (RLC-511 or RLC-522) or would it depend on use-case?

    • @EverythingSmartHome
      @EverythingSmartHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely would depend on your usecase and how much you actually need to be able to see, I'd say you'll probably get better clarity from the 5MP zoom but you'll need to be zoomed all the way in to make use of that. Also you'll lose the AI features (if that matters to you). Consider the FoV too.

    • @zezem
      @zezem 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the 511 and the zoom feature to me is worth more than the 4k. If you have a specific area you wish to monitor that is some distance from the camera, I'll take zoom every time. It is 5mp too, not 1810p, as suggested (2560x1920). Frame rate is higher too. My first unit leaked after about 8 months. Reolink swapped it out without quibble. They have been good trying to sort out a mobile data streaming issue too.I record to FTP. The hardware and software is pretty solid.

    I bought the rlc-810a and the issue I am having is flaring with the night vision. I say flaring as opposed to smearing because the camera is showing a streak across the entire viewing area all through the night. It looks to me more like sun flare on a camera lens. Reolink's support suggests I change the settings for anti-smearing and to turn off 3d-nr but that does not help. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

    I hate Reolink! For a long time the PC client would not display any videos. Then the finally fix it and dump flash. Now, when you run your client from external to your home you are screwed. Why? because they do not allow you to add a port to your domain name. This means if you have to do port forwarding (like pretty much everyone has to do) you are screwed again!

    • @danlat1415

      I can view the video from the camera for any location outside of my home network (external WiFi or cellular connection) without any issues.
      The Reolink client app & PC software, as well as the camera's firmware have all been updated recently due to Reolink removing the need for Flash Player due to Flash Player being discontinued from the end of December 2020.
