I've been doing a lot of research to figure out what kind of cameras will complement my property. We have some weird stuff going on like a detached garage in the back of the house in the driveway that goes along the side of the house so there are a lot of considerations for viewing angles, zoom, tracking, etc. Along the way I decided I am interested in a real link set up, but they have so many cameras. You have reviewed every single camera that I am considering and I appreciate the depth and breadth of your reviews.
Nice review! The 823A wins hands down regarding image quality, especially at night. This is explaining why it has twice the price of the Trackmix. However, it is indeed quite loud, but that is no dealbreaker for me. I have just ordered it.

I was super excited to setup a new Trackmix poe after watching this video. Good info. Update - have been tweaking my new Trackmix POE for almost a week. Lots of emails to support. First - If you have any bushes or trees that sway in the breeze - bingo your motion is triggered. I have to "erase" tracking on most of my front yard due to too many moving bushes. After moving the cam to track just my walkway, the person tracking started working. Yea. Then setting the horizontal panning for tracking - NO JOY. the camera focuses in on someone walking up the walk, but will not pan as they ascend the stairs and approach the front door - all of this is included in the horizontal capture. So frustrated - ready to spend the extra cash for a true PTZ. Curious if other folks are having this issue. Support has been pretty quick to respond and followup, but still not working yet
As to the bushes or irrelevant motion, uncheck the "all motion" on the detection setting and also on the notifications. You might need to increase the person detection sensitivity for the camera to continue to track.
@@LifeHackster Thanks for the reply - Yes I have person @ 100 % detection and I'm getting the blue outline tracking me with digital zoom. Then it just stops when I hit the left side of the FOV. It never pans left or right to the max horizontal settings. I also have the "all motion" off. Waiting on REOLINK support for more ideas!!
@@RogerCoville Known problem and easy to solve. We have 3x the RLC-523WA and recently 2x the TrackMix WiFi. Adjust the minimum and maximum size for people and vehicles. Postscript: Due to the disappointing quality of the TrackMix, we are going to use the one for indoors and they will replace the now outdated Reolink C2 Pros. I have two 823As and with this recent update they have been great. Yes the noise when rotating is annoying but still nice. I think I will be recommending the Trackmix to people over the 823A though since I think overall it is a better fit for most people and $80 cheaper.
@@LifeHackster but at night the 823-A has better quality of recording. i was disappointed from the trackmix, Especially with the backlight behind your fence, I could hardly see your face

Another excellent review in which you put your educated finger on the main pros and cons of each camera. I don't own the TrackMix and never will if the night vision isn't improved somehow.. I do own the 823A and while it's a great image, the autofocus is a joke, sometimes taking 30 seconds. The left/right oscillations should be improved with the latest beta but tracking is still erratic, especially close to the camera. Neither camera is ready for prime time yet imho.
@@kayberry6292 thanks. Based on my research, I think it’s the pick of the PTZ cameras still?. The track mix night vision is terrible which is a no go. And the 16x appears to have other issues. I’m yet to accept Amazon delivery. Is there any ptz camera you would change it too?
@@ibsn87 - I haven't tried the 16x but the 823A is Reolink's best camera for me, now that the autofocus issue seems to be fixed. I haven't even had to change the SDcard which stores approx two weeks of motion events before overwriting.
I bought the 823A V2 a month or so ago, wish I had done more research, I live on a cul-de-sac and my goal was to have a camera that would track anything that gets in it's field of view but I didn't realize it doesn't do auto zoom and I just found out about the Trackmix via a Amazon Deal Alert, I feel like the zoom tracking is the best bet to get license plate numbers from shady cars in the neighborhood. The sad thing is the V2 has a great zoom capability (although rather slow to focus), I could manually zoom good enough to read the plate number off of a fire engine 450 feet away from my camera when they repainted the fire hydrants a few weeks ago. I'm tempted to get the Trackmix and move the 823A2 to the back yard.
Any plans comparing the TrackMix with the Duo 2? I have the latter protecting the two cars and open garage, including the walkway to the front door. Wondering if the TrackMix will be better for that purpose.
Don't think you can reduce the noise. I have a 823A. The noise is obvious standing close to the cam. The mic is close to the motor so during live view and recording the motor sounds louder than it actually is IMO.

Good reviews. Are there PTZ cameras that allows for integration with external motion sensors to trigger PTZ presets? This way, the camera can pick up activity outside its normal motion sensing area or even when being pointed in the opposite direction.
Try "reolink home assistant". I use Home Assistant with a Aqara mmwave human presence detection sensors to turn on flood lights in certain zones. Using the Reolink integration it looks like you can point to PTZ presets, etc.
Love your videos! I can’t get any help from Reolink, maybe your have better channels. I would like my 823A 4x to be in patrol mode, then auto-track an object if detected, then return to Patrol. Good that I saw this video and heard the sound. I was going to buy PTZ/Dome version, but now I think I want a static one because I noticed the sound is so loud. Will it the similar with other manufacturers?
-Plz read the bottom for help in something important when done with my tiny comment here, HUGE THANKS. -Some people LOVE the 823a's motor noise & can be argued as a plus for a near road/sidewalk positioning. It lets people walking by know something is tracking them. I see it daily, so its a CON and PRO at the same time, just depends how you look at it. I would have a 180 degree camera that paints the 823a camera location so you always have a backup view. One camera to track and record the entire scene - because the trackmix needs more development from what I see. I like setting up 2 cameras or 3 for a static 360 view of an area, then add tracking cameras for any pedestrian/car traffic areas. -Motor noise is good especially angles of the streets and sidewalks people never think are recorded. I also love adding a dome wide angle on top 3 -360 static angle - to face the sky to see all airlines/jets/helicopters...a uap tic tac or two. always good for a shooting star, see what time it happened and look it up on your camera if it got the event... also same with certain things that fly around, you know the time, just look back any time some says there was something in the area - question here - what's the best dome camera for the sky - something you can put an ND filter on so the sun doesn't destroy anything. -ONE LAST BIG THING: Does anyone have a good piece of code/software to track faces and save them to a directory? Same with car plates, I wanted to save the images and maybe read the characters on the plate and count how many times one car drives by. I would use that software for victims of crimes, so they can feel safe about where they live. If anyone can help me here I can really improve the lives of many women. A HUGE THANK YOU to anyone that can help. ALSO, if you have a good face detection software add-on to BLUEIRIS or something like that I would appreciate that too, seeing the same face come around is of course useful... some just drive by when they notice the cameras, so plates are good that way.
G'day, I'm using an 823a The PTZ lets me look things in more detail than my fixed cameras. I have not set the tracking as I want the camera to moniter a cirtin area while zoomed in that other cameras don't get the same detail.
I was excited when the new Riolink trackmix camera was announced For pre-order so I went ahead and purchased one they said it would be shipped out in 3 to 5 weeks but that time has come and gone now they’re talking the end of September before they’ll ship out not very happy
I do have reviewed them and made videos a while back…the Litom ones that you see in my fence in this video are still working but unfortunately the brand seems to have disappeared from Amazon.
Reolink has very good cameras I have a system with 4 D500 and 2 Duo cameras and I do admit they work very good but be aware that even know they offer a good warranty the make you go through some serious screening worst than TSA at the airport... I still have not been told they will replace it after 7 days of going back and forward with emails.
Ciso jo seen your review and I congratulate you, I would like to buy a track mix camera for my garden but I would like to understand if simply using the application I can manage all the functions of the camera. For the patio facing the street what do you recommend a Reolink RLC-833A or an Amcrest IP8M-2779EW-AI
@lifehackster great video. Any new cameras come out from reolink? What’s your favorite? I’m doing research. Will look to see if you have any new videos on reolink. Subscribed👍
Great review, I hope you will also review the new products from Reolink like the new doorbell which is on presale now and shipped out on the first days of October 2022
Well I just found a GIANT security flaw in the Reolink security cameras. I currently run Blue Iris but was looking to offload the power hungry nature of the server to a big box product. I purchased a RLC-36 with the intent of using it as a backup for person and motion alerts. I connected it tonight with the LAN port to my home network and one of the camera ports to my POE VLAN running my camera system. I put nothing in the setup and expected to be able to heedlessly configure it. I watched in horror as every single Reolink camera with newer firmware on my network get disabled and switching over to my UBNT logs I watched as it changed every single one of the camera's IP addresses. I get it that this is probably a feature if someone buys this but this is a major vulnerability. Now I can go to a business with reolink cameras, sneak up on one, and connect a device that sends a message to every camera disabling it? Again I never gave the think any data. All I did was change the password to the NVR and boom it took over all my cameras. I am sure if a $200 NVR can do this that there is a simple command to do this from any network connected item. I hope they fix this. If there is some camera autodiscover setting that can be turned off please let me know... this needs to be gone now.
@@CrimsonTrauma I dont either. I have a dedicated VLAN. But the thought that plugging a off the shelf NVR up to it will bypass all security protocols and take over my cameras is a problem.
I understood that the attacker would need to know the password in order to adopt the cameras. NAP would be great, but I don't think we could expect network security features for a low cost camera that is at-most targeted to small business.
As your friendly local network engineer, if you can plug into a businesses network and have the device not immediately get shut down then that network has vulnerabilities not the product itself. I do know that most home users won't have VLAN segmentation or whitelist only, so I think it's valid for a home owner to at least be aware of this.
Thanks for the detailed video. I was reviewing cameras just before I saw your video and one purchase review that talked about adding newer cameras (4k) to a (2K) recorder. Their main complaint was about functions that didn't work. Maybe that was due to using a 4k camera with a 2k NVR. What model NVR were you using? You may want to talk about NVR compatibility when talking about cameras and not full systems. Thank you.
I don’t know why Reolink put out trackmix but it’s not ready it’s just not there 823A is better in zoom and night vision they didn’t need to make the trackmix smaller than 823A they should’ve kept the same size and put more features into it just make it better overall.
I have a 823A. The motor sound is obvious standing close to the cam. But the internal mic is close to the motor and makes it sound louder in live view and recordings IMO.
@@markd.songsandstuff7728 interesting good to know! without having it myself though, just watching the clips I think I would find the noise pretty annoying reviewing footage!

-ONE LAST BIG THING:
Does anyone have a good piece of code/software to track faces and save them to a directory?
The 823A is pretty good if you don’t use tracking.
I was considering this but it’s also out of stock on Reolinks site. Patiently waiting for the E1 outdoor Poe but debating to just the older 5MP model…
I'll be reviewing the E1 Outdoor PoE soon...
I was excited when the new Riolink trackmix camera was announced For pre-order so I went ahead and purchased one they said it would be shipped out in 3 to 5 weeks but that time has come and gone now they’re talking the end of September before they’ll ship out not very happy
Sorry to hear that. Seems like they have issues keeping this in stock.
There was a shipping issue and many TrackMix cameras were lost/damaged, it wasn't reolinks fault.
Been waiting for the dang track mix to come in stock 😐
Pretty impressive value all things considered.
Thank you so much for this video!
That looks Nice!
RLC-823A 16X
nice video, to bad the 823 has only 54 degrees horizontal view.
Cool. Greetings from Switzerland.
Great videos!! Keep up the good work! Thanks
I hope that when my home security camera is broken, These 2 models will be my best choice
Great Review! Thanks for the comparison 👍
Could you please make a video of the backyard lights you use or recommend some? Please & thank you 😊
I do have reviewed them and made videos a while back…the Litom ones that you see in my fence in this video are still working but unfortunately the brand seems to have disappeared from Amazon.
You seem so chill. Be a cool neighbor
Encouraging video! Question can I connect this camera to my Dahua POE NVR?
What is the best PTZ camera that works long distance say 500ft.
Of all the reolink cameras you've tested, which cameras have optical zoom auto tracking ?
Would you review the new version of the rlc 823a with 16x optical zoom?
I will when it comes out.
I have the Reolink Argus Track
I will review the doorbell when it comes out…I’m excited to check it out.
What about the battery life and the solar camera feature performance?
These 2 cameras are wired/plugged IN.
Sounds like a valid concern but I don't allow any IP cameras to touch anything on my internal home network. Segment off via firewall.
I like the noise of the panning I believe it is discouraging for those up to no good.
Thank you.
Thanks
Thank you very much... much appreciated...
Is any of these cameras can connected to a router without NVR?
great review thank you
I don’t know why Reolink put out trackmix but it’s not ready it’s just not there 823A is better in zoom and night vision they didn’t need to make the trackmix smaller than 823A they should’ve kept the same size and put more features into it just make it better overall.
Makes too much noise while panning.
Yes, the 823 does.
I agree piece of junk
I’m so tempted to buy one of these and attempting a motor upgrade to something a bit better
????? LH; If the cams issue a noise when tracking and adjusting, is that noise just loud enough to startle the trespasser's attention thus serve as a slight deterrent or is that noise too quiet for this extra benefit ???
In a quiet day, you can hear it..15-20 feet out..so yes, it can be a deterrent..but it is just distracting if you want to listen in to the audio.
@@LifeHackster Thank you LH......for answering my question so completely.
is there a video of him showing what happens on the reolink tracking camerasr when it is trained right and you come up on the left?
At ir night vision with the trackmix it looks a bit laggy in the footage. But I’m surprised it still can detect in the ghosting
Great video thanks 😊
I would put the trackmix in a front yard because the zoomed in cameras is great at reading license plates.
Reolink duo 3 POE review? Wondering about your thoughts and a possible sell date. Though I do plan to buy when it first comes out. Mainly due to the fact that I have the first 2 models and they seem to keep getting better.
It officially comes out tomorrow, let's wait s couple days more for his review
Thank you for sharing, can they read license plate at night?
Please watch this -> th-cam.com/video/ZqnW05lUHzY/w-d-xo.html
Which one do you loke better between the two cameras? And why?
Looking forward to a solar-powered tracking cellular camera from them.
Is there any ?
@@setarifsetari Reolink has a Go PT cam and a new trail cam called the KEEN. They both operate with cellular data and auto track, battery/solar powered. Only with certain cellular providers though, depending where you live. Correction. I was wrong. The battery cams have person vehicle detection but not auto tracking currently.
@@markd.songsandstuff7728 come one, show me that the one of this cameras can auto track? Any video ?
Because i already follow this topic
@@markd.songsandstuff7728 really I thought we talk about battery powered and duo 2 Will be battery powered and Duo 2 is not ptz.
823a is ptz and it has tracking but it's not battery powered.
:)
@@setarifsetari Sorry, I was wrong. The battery cams have person vehicle detection but not auto tracking currently.
Going to do a review of reolink doorbell poe?
Whenever it becomes available. Thanks.
Question is Lorex cameras great for your house because I never seen you view them like that
Great. Thank you. 💐🌹🌷👍👏🌷🌹💐
First Aussie 😁
Hello Life hacker good to you! I saw in one of your recent videos a thing you used to improve Wi-Fi signal what is it please
Would the Reolink Argus 4 pro with 180 degree view be better than this motion camera?
What is the best price/ quality option for outdoor with RTSP for Home Assistance in your opinion? Thanks in advance.
I’m not familiar with home assistance…so, I can’t really say.
@@LifeHackster Home Assistant sorry
Well they probably work well around the house with great signal, but if there's low signal they don't work well.
They are PoE - power over ethernet. They are wired directly to your router or NVR..so, no signal issue...unless you wire it more than 300 feet.
It seems the camera's have been updated since your review. The RLC-823a's field of view is Horizontal: 105°-31° (not 96°-27°) and Vertical: 55°-17° (not 69°-21°) and the infrared on the TrackMix is now up to 30 meters not 15 metres.
Where did you find this ? Did you tested it ? Im torn between these two camera leaning a bit more to the trackmix but in the video the nightvision in terrible. I want a good nightvision camera.
Sir mere pas imou 360 camera hai 265 gb spot karta hai. Muje je batya ki 64 card dalne ke baad kitna time recording save karega one month ja jada time
So the RLC 823 does better at nighttime
Can you shut off the tracking option if you want on the TrackMix? I just want to be able to move the camera without getting up on the ladder.
The wide angle lens on Trackmix is not actually 4K?
It is 4K. The zoomed in one is 1080P.
@@LifeHackster at 4:11 the wide angle camera is 2840 x 2160 (6MP)
RLC-800 line can record at 3840 x 2160 (8MP), not sure why at 3:10 it also says 2840 x 2160. Is that a typo?
@@handle924 Typo
So glad the new one doesn't make that god awful noise now I am willing to buy
I can’t decide on which of these cameras I like better
Just heard about the Eufy Security Garage-Control Cam Plus; any chance you'll be reviewing this in the future?
I'm not sure yet..but I have the unit. It has the compatibility issue with "yellow" learn button openers like the Wyze controller one... we will see.
@LifeHakster I have the 5mp Wifi version of the PTZ & a TrackMix pre-ordered (for over a month now) but after seeing the night performance Im thinking about canceling the order.
What would you think is a better backyard cam (like 2/3 the depth of your yard ) between the 8mp PTZ or the new Dou 2 4k?
Thanks as always for the vids, you're one of my favorite reviewers 🤙🏻
I prefer static cameras…so the Duo is a good choice.
When will the Track Mix actually be for sale, link just leads me to “notify me”?
Hopefully, they can get it back in stock soon.
hello, I am a faithful follower of this channel that is really special and everything I have about security in my home is thanks to this channel, but I have a big question and I need help, really which camera is better for the front of my home where there are constant movement, I have an RLC 523 5MP I bought a 4K NVR and I am renewing the cameras to 4K and I have great doubts about which one to decide between RLC823A and the Mix.
Track mix is just a bargain for the price point vs features.. the RLC-823A is good at night and is also good camera .. I wonder if you mounted a trackmix on your front would your neighbor's complaint about it? being if they was out for a walk and its starts to follow them. ? let do a comparison to Trackmix vs the new Swann 900PT Ptz or Trackmix Vs sunba PTz? Good Review as always !
In my neighborhood…most likely I will be blasted in the Nextdoor app..complaining about it..but if your neighbors are not as close as mine…it should be fine…and would act more as a deterrent.
my 823a mounted next to my front door. No issues.
As soon as a crime is committed, who’s door do you think they will be asking for video from? 🫵
Can you switch off the auto tracking mode on the TrackMix and use it as a static if you need?
Yes.
Is it actually possible for the trackmix to make "camera trips" independently and thus monitor the entire property? Maybe with another app?
What NVR do is compatible with the Trackmix? I have the older Rln8-410-e and the two way talk and auto tracking isn't available. I tried on the Rln8-410 version 2, and the same. Any help please?
Probably need to run it through a POE switch. You will still be able to record the video on the nvr. Had to do this for the doorbell cams. Hope it helps!
11:05 How about overmount? Can you rotate the Trackmix so it's upside-down, so you can mount it on a tabletop, and all functionality is still good?
All that noise real?
Yes, on the 823A
