You can see the camera here if you’re interested: amzn.to/3Ayz8Qp (affiliate link) Would you rather have an extremely wide field of view like this, or super detailed resolution for zooming in?
Personally I want resolution. I would prefer the ability to positively identify people or vehicles and to just add more cameras to get coverage. Otherwise you just end up with descriptions like "White Honda Accord" and you know how many of those there are. Does this support Apple Homekit?
I think it depends on the situation. For the front of our house, I might prefer the resolution and ability to make out license plates from a distance / angle (similar to your Unifi camera in the video). But when monitoring the backyard, this would be neat (and another camera monitoring the lower level (aka basement) camera. Any idea if this is ONVIF compatible and usable with standalone software such as Blue Iris? I am guessing since most of their other cameras work with Blue Iris and you mentioned compatibility with Synology, this one should be compatible with Blue Iris as well but wanted to confirm. Thanks as always for a quick but useful mid-week video!
I lean toward resolution over coverage. My neighborhood gets a lot of porch pirates, car break ins, and vandalism. That gives me an idea... Wouldn't it be cool if a camera could detect intrusion like I mentioned above, and unleash a drone to follow the perp from altitude? Call it the Jarvis Jr, Wondering Vision, Ultron attacks? Lol
I'm going to preface this and say I'm a security officer in the UK and part of my job is watching CCTV systems. Businesses with 100+ cameras multiple NVRs etc etc. My regular site as of late has 4 NVRs in tandon and I have to say the software while seeming clunky on this reolink is actually fantastic! The hour time slot is genuinely genius and would come in so handy over other implementations I've seen. Perhaps they could offer the straight swipe for people that want it but the system they have once learned I feel is a better log... Perhaps especially if they added a number on each hour... The number relating to how many occurrences were in that hour with a handy jump to each occurrence.
I recently purchaed the Reolink Duo 2 PoE after watching your review. Awesome camera with the spoghtlight function for the front of our house. It has saved on our electrical bill removing the standard 110v spotlight we used to have. I run this with (6) D400 cameras 2 outdoors/back of house and 4 inside. Going to upgrade the rear of my house/outdoor (2) D400 cameras with another Duo 2 PoE to cover 180 of my back yard. I also picked up the IoT spotlight for when my dogs go outside. Love it as well. Now i have a full 8 camera setup RLN8-410. Reolink has come a long way since inception of their product sand firmware. Also if people dont know you can run more than 8 cameras on the RlN8-410 through the windows client Reolink provides. The NVR's lan port must be connected to a PoE switch , and all extra cameras connected to the same PoE switch. Though only the 8 cameras are the ones that record to the NVR directly to it. Reolinks windows client allows you to store the extra cameras footage, connected to the switch, on your PC locally for more storage. Make sure you change the default storage location from C:/ and have a huge HDD for the extra cameras.
Reed, I just installed this camera last night and WOW! 180 degree FOV is no joke! The stitching is seamless and the “blind spot” practically nonexistent. Very impressed with this camera. Thanks for the review!
I use the desktop app for accessing my NVR, if I truly need to look at footage from the past. Using the phone app is just fine for checking in on the live feed! I'm not one to use my smartphone for "detailed" operations of anything.
Thanks for the vid. I'm thinking about buying the PoE version of this camera to put above my garage. Last summer I wired in my existing Reolink PoE system and it was quite tedious, but totally worth it. It's a great system but I agree 100% about the clunky app. And adding one more camera to the mix won't be so bad now that the major work was already done a year ago. I like how they seamlessly blended the two cameras together to create the 180 fov. I think I'm sold!
Thanks for sharing. Its so frustrating, from home security cameras to dash cams to 360 action camera none of these companies can just bring out a well rounded option that ticks all the boxes. Reolink is good, but that app nonsense is a deal killer.
The Reolink app is actually pretty good. I don't feel that complaining about trying to find one event out of hundreds is valid. As for the cameras that's another story.
It would have been nice to show the license plate with the other setting to see if that really did help. It would have also been nice to see if this had an alarm on it as well. I know we can go to the link to find out but would have been nice to see this.
It doesn't have an alarm function. Two way talk is average, but usable. As for the other settings, they do not improve the quality of the image on any Reolink cameras. It is the sensor quality that lets it down. You get what you pay for. Cheap camera sensor = cheap image, They are good as a general overview camera, and that is usually what you want a really high FoV for. For identifiying or focusing on particular areas, you still need another camera with a narrower FoV to get the extra details
@@Pro1er I emailed them and they confirmed that it does have a siren like the previous models so glad about that. I think that with the voice and also being able to turn on the siren hopefully that will keep them away from my car once I get this connected.
We recently had 2 scary things happen in our back yard. Corner house, with a back wrap around driveway and a shop in the very back of our 1/2 acre lot. So I am watching your videos to learn about the systems and I have a few questions. 1) If I set up several cameras wired to an NVR around my shop, can I use the NVR to send the signals to another device inside my home? We presently use a Linksys net in 3 positions inside our home, but I think I can buy another and place it inside my shop. Would this be the best way to link to an inside the home system? 2) The cameras I have seen so far, like the one in this video, show it's own floodlights. What happens when another flood light goes bright? Do you lose picture? Does it make the cameras picture better?? 3) Now having an idea what I have to deal with, what would you do for security on both the house and shop, plus as much yard as possible, without paying additional cloud fees??? I think answering these questions would make for a great video.... Thanks and yes, I am now a subscriber..
Looks like a nice camera, might need to upgrade. I've been using their RLC-420 for a couple years now and like the app for viewing motion captured footage but then use my Synology Surveillance Station for 24/7 capture. They all feed into HA as well. Looks like you're about to get a monsoon dust storm. I'm in south Gilbert and we've had a pretty busy season!
Does the Reolink Dual lense that comes with the floodlights still the Duo 2 or some other lens? Doesn't seem to be the Duo 1 since that's 2K and 4MP. Saw the Duo with floodlights has 8MP.
We've connected the older model with wifi to a Reolink NVR without issue. I did notice on the POE version of the Duo POE 2 amazon page that they recommend updating your NVR with new firmware. Of note though they don't mention this on the WiFi version page, so maybe that is later....
Sometimes you want to put up cameras at places where you can feasibly get power to them, but running an Ethernet cable to that location is very difficult. I've got that problem all over this house.
I really haven't found the Reolink app to be so bad. I don't record continuously, I have no need for footage with no events so I only have the events stored, this means I have no 1 hour blocks like described. The grey button in the corner is no issue if you know it's there and you can easily sort events by type. The clip thumbnails are animated to show what's in the clip but they could be smoother and it would be good if they loaded faster but they're not too bad. I also wish there was a preview with the push notification but that might slow down the notification as well.
@@SmartHomeSolver Agree with both of you. The app could/should be better but I don't hate it. The 24/7 playback is a weird default for a security camera -- might be wrong but I'm assuming almost all of their users are looking to see some movement or detection when they go to playback. Detection should be the default requiring you to toggle on 24/7. Side question - if you run pihole or similar, have you noticed an insane amount of reolink traffic? Pihole default limitations cause my android to be throttled because it's hitting 5k dns requests per minute. I don't think it's nefarious or anything, just either a bug or poorly written app. Only on android, windows app has a fraction of a percent of that and I know I could stop it if I disabled some of the features.
So If i have NVR and POE cameras installed, it won't connect with any hub ? Can I see the live feed remotely or able to monitor it using a monitoring service provider ?
So if I was to get a Reolink NVR and this camera, or others. Can I still saying to google "show me the X camera" or is that only available through the app? Or some sort of HA Integration?
Hi Smart Home Solver, Great video and gave you a thumbs up. I reviewed the Duo 2/s FAQs on Reolink's webiste for and see that the siren and floodlights can be turned off. Can I turn off the siren, while still having the floodlights activated? Vice-versa? Many thanks.
This is very interesting. I will have to think about it as I am not happy with Eufy. I mean I have just doorbell dual cam but I don't like it and I assumed I won't like the cameras 😅
I’m planning on putting 2 of theses cameras on the back of my shop. About how wide are the 180 deg view?? I don’t want to miss anything on my 100’ wide shop. Thx
For those with this camera, can you see it in preview on NVR and also when you click it for full screen? I have a 36 chan and 8 chan NVR, See it only in full screen on 36 and only on preview with the 8. Maybe its my monitor TV but my friend also has this problem on his 16 chan NVR.
Hi, Do you mind if I ask what firmware version you have in the duo 2 ? I'm having issue with the auto mode spotlight at night and push notifications. Thanks
Whilst I agree the app and Reolink's firmware and app design is very poor you can actually carry on viewing from a detection to the 24/7 recording without having to scrub through and find it by following these steps. 1. Find and play a detection but pause it before it ends. 2. Tap the play button with the exclamation mark in the bottom left corner of the screen. 3. Now tap play either on the video player or the play button in the centre of the video window. 4. The video will carry on playing from where you left off when you paused it but is now playing from 24/7 recording. Hope this helps.
Do you still have the reolink cameras? I just got the POE version with two double lens cams one POE and the other one is Wi-Fi and bunch of other cameras hopefully will make a good video surveillance system.
As a long time Reolink user, I’m very interested in the new video doorbell they have on their website. If you’re able to swing a review on that item too I’d be very interested.
I'm also interested. I have Eufy doorbell which is awesome, but their camera options aren't as good, especially PTZs, and so am wondering if I lose much going all Reolink.
I have 4 cameras reolink about 2 years, i had 2Tb store but i changed to 6Tb record 1 month+ so i think the reolink is good👌 i will see if i will have any problems in the future!
Have one of these cameras [edit: the earlier one], a little underpowered processor wise when watching live or detecting humans. Also plastic shell which could be an issue - so far it's been fine. Also when tripped the camera records both channels rather than just the one that caused the event. Also I can't find newer firmware or any option to pull it (last checked a month ago, to be fair). But it's field of view is excellent - I do recommend it.
ohh no what have you done (now I need one) ... I have been looking for a camera for my mowbot and now I think I'm gonna have to put this on it .. how long is the delay for the feed? is it measured in seconds or milliseconds ?? great review and nice mentioning when the light is shining on one camera and not the other.
Super random question, how do you mount cameras on your exterior? Do you use some sort of light switch plate or something? What about rain leaking through the center or sides? Thanks for your help!!
Yes I had the same question a while ago and I ended up using a wall plate. I showed the process in a video from last year but that's how I did it again th-cam.com/video/LD3dEYTDuB8/w-d-xo.html and I didn't mention in the video but there are some waterproof covers for the PoE connection and the camera is IP66 so it shouldn't be a problem. All my other cameras have been up for well over a year through some crazy monsoons and haven't had any issues.
@Raimond Melkers My bad. I misunderstood. I've ordered a Reolink Duo 2 PoE version and should arrive tomorrow. I'll update my my response when I tested if it works with BlueIris
@Raidmond Melkers. I got my camera delivered a day earlier. I was able to link it to BlueIris without any issues. The ONVIF port was at 8000 in the camera and BlueIris was set at 8999 default for me so setting those at the same port, enable ONVIF on the cam setting of course and I was able to link to it to BlueIris without any issues
If you run all your cameras and Reolink nvr to a POE network switch they show up as nvr cameras and network cameras in the app and you can view them on smart displays.
great video as usual.. I have a dozen reolink cameras... app is awful, but I attached it to AgentDVR, and HA. Regarding ONVIF, I read a comment about it, all reolink cameras support it at port 8000 ( except battery-powered). cheers..
great video Reed, been trying to add a Reolink camera snapshot as an attachment to my gmail. been trying unsuccessfully for weeks. Can you point me in the right direction? Thank you.
One thing that has helped me is you can adjust the 24/7 video recording to 30 minutes instead of 60… under Pack duration on the camera recording settings.
Ok, the app could be better... Got it. Does anyone know if there is a desktop version of the software (I'm sure there must be) and whether it's any better than the mobile app? Thanks.
Reolink has their own NVRs. And the higher resolution cameras support RTSP and ONVIF, and therefore should work with most other NVR hardware or software.
Have the fixed some of the frame rate issues as well this time? Do they sync properly between the cameras now long term with no drift? If they are 2 cameras, I guess it is 2 90 degree FoV camera's. The quality is a bit disappointing for 2 4K Camera's with 90degree FOV. Also can see the Reolink IR Night View is still pretty bad. Luckily they are good with good lighting so the LED's make quite a difference I guess this would make a good general overview camera, but the lack of detail at distance means it would be a lot harder to use the footage to identify a criminal in the event of an incident. This seems to be an issue with a lot of cheaper camera's though. It depends if you want the system to identify people or just as a general overview.
A smart security camera setup combines wide and narrow view cameras. Wide to capture what's happening, even if it lacks details, and a few strategic narrow cameras to capture details.
Was looking at the Duo and saw this one but it's missing the battery/solar powered option. As soon as they have the solar option I'm on board. I need wifi connection for my back yard so the wired/poe isn't an option.
Is the NVR required for the POE camera (or is the only requirement a POE Router?) since according to their web site some functionality is lost when hooked up to an NVR (Time lapse and Google Assistant don't work with their NVR) Also, it appears that their POE NVR down samples the video to 6mp instead of 8mp (according to their web documentation)
These would be handy for my place. One each in the mid spans (half way down each wall span) to get generic 360degrees ... then for the closer stuff, a PTZ dome cam on each corner of the house.
Did you get all the nvr functionality with this camera? Most of the functions are not avail or won’t load with this camera hooked to the nvr. No light support, no motion detection support, no motion detection zones. It looks like my device is on the latest firmware.
Agree with you about playback on the Reolink app being terrible. It also lacks motion tagging, really annoying because sometimes it's hard to tell what triggered the detection. Finally, no rich notifications with thumbnails. Great hardware, but man they need to up their software game.
Hey Reed. I just got the Wi-Fi version. I can't find the answer to my question... can I hook it up using just Wi-Fi or do I need to use the Ethernet cable also?
Yes it can use the Ethernet cable. That's how I set it up and it seemed to work well. Sorry I should have mentioned that in the video. It just can't be powered by PoE.
I am using the older Duo version and other Reolink cameras with Blue Iris which is also connected to Home Assistant and it is working well for me, I think I will have to get a couple of these to add to my setup. Love your content!
I'm also running a couple older duo's on BI. Having it all one stream will look much better on my live view monitors. I'll have to upgrade to the new ones soon, probably when they decide to finally release the doorbell.
Does the Blue Iris show the 2 camera views stitched together or just one of the cameras? I've read that Blue Iris only sees one of the 2 cameras-only one camera network IP address...? The only way to get around it is to use a ReoLink NVR. Thanks
You will improve performance, yes. But how much is a 6TB SSD? Also SDD has a finite read/write times and especially for video recording, you'll burn through those quicker than a 6TB WD Surveillance HDD failure.

3. Now tap play either on the video player or the play button in the centre of the video window.
4. The video will carry on playing from where you left off when you paused it but is now playing from 24/7 recording.
Hope this helps.
I have 2 of this and they work like a charm...
Do you still have the reolink cameras? I just got the POE version with two double lens cams one POE and the other one is Wi-Fi and bunch of other cameras hopefully will make a good video surveillance system.
I think blue iris would be a good option for recording and viewing the security cameras
Wait, you've got a Victorian licence plate? how'd you get that?
I used to live in Melbourne over 10 years ago and I found the plate in a gutter.
Sir please say what hapens if outside is -25 degrise this camera wont broke out?
First class review 👌
Many thanks for taking the time
Thanks Alex! Glad to hear you liked it!
if using POE and NVR, would the app work better than just using wifi?
As a long time Reolink user, I’m very interested in the new video doorbell they have on their website. If you’re able to swing a review on that item too I’d be very interested.
I'm also interested. I have Eufy doorbell which is awesome, but their camera options aren't as good, especially PTZs, and so am wondering if I lose much going all Reolink.
Any worries on data breach or Reolink support?
I have 4 cameras reolink about 2 years, i had 2Tb store but i changed to 6Tb record 1 month+ so i think the reolink is good👌 i will see if i will have any problems in the future!
Does the playback features work on a desktop? or a monitor?
I never could get mine to pick up Wi-Fi either. I ended up getting a Wi-Fi extender and hooking up a cat 5 cable between it and the Lan on the dvr.
That camera will be my next Christmas present, count on it.
Awesome video...thx for the info on the camera information...I am going to buy one for my home..hey where did you get your tshirt? Looks cool!
I'd be careful not drilling holes into your home, good place to start rot and insects etc to invade.
Based on specs, I see no ONVIF, so my guess, won’t work with BlueIris, or am I missing something?
You'll have tons of issues getting reolinks working with any 3rd party kit because they mess with the SVC frames, not worth buying imo..
I have 3 reolink camers linked to BlueIris without any issues. worked right away
@@iamporfavor3452 as do I, but NOT this model.
@Raimond Melkers
My bad.
Does it record 24/7 with a SD card to?
If you run all your cameras and Reolink nvr to a POE network switch they show up as nvr cameras and network cameras in the app and you can view them on smart displays.
great video as usual.. I have a dozen reolink cameras... app is awful, but I attached it to AgentDVR, and HA. Regarding ONVIF, I read a comment about it, all reolink cameras support it at port 8000 ( except battery-powered). cheers..
First duo model is 2x2k resolution a this second model 1x4k.So basically they have same resolution in therms of video quality?
great video Reed, been trying to add a Reolink camera snapshot as an attachment to my gmail. been trying unsuccessfully for weeks. Can you point me in the right direction? Thank you.
i didn't bother playing with it, but there's a setting in the web ui to adjust the "distance" to reduce that "line in the middle" distortion
Great review! Thank you!
One thing that has helped me is you can adjust the 24/7 video recording to 30 minutes instead of 60… under Pack duration on the camera recording settings.
That's a good tip!
Ok, the app could be better... Got it. Does anyone know if there is a desktop version of the software (I'm sure there must be) and whether it's any better than the mobile app? Thanks.
Nice one. I like the wide vision. Thanks.
Man I wish relolink, hikvison or other brand CCTV with NVR or DVR support smart home
Reolink has their own NVRs. And the higher resolution cameras support RTSP and ONVIF, and therefore should work with most other NVR hardware or software.
@@shubinternet @hikvison yeah but I wish hikvison NVR support smart home
@@shubinternet yeah but i wish relolink in Indonesia
Have the fixed some of the frame rate issues as well this time? Do they sync properly between the cameras now long term with no drift?
If they are 2 cameras, I guess it is 2 90 degree FoV camera's. The quality is a bit disappointing for 2 4K Camera's with 90degree FOV. Also can see the Reolink IR Night View is still pretty bad. Luckily they are good with good lighting so the LED's make quite a difference
I guess this would make a good general overview camera, but the lack of detail at distance means it would be a lot harder to use the footage to identify a criminal in the event of an incident.
Can you charge it via solar panels?
Does this work with homekit?
Have you tried making this work with Synology Surveillance Station?
Hi, are you going to review the new Reolink Video Doorbell?
I plan on trying it out soon!
Sweet! Compatible with Frigate??
Great review, how does this compare to the Nest Outdoor IQ?
But does it support multiple simultaneous RTSP streams??
What do think about eufy Security Floodlight Cam 2 Pro, 360-Degree?
It's in my backyard and I like it th-cam.com/video/gIZgPlI6nLI/w-d-xo.html
I hope I didn't miss this... Can you mount this vertical from underneath an eave? It doesn't seem like it can accommodate that angle.
It doesn’t very well. This camera is very deep and the wires out the back. It’s cramped on an eve for sure
@@PMPerformance Thank you for the info and quick reply!
@@tw2607 my pleasure. It’s fresh in my head as I just got one today and was testing the FOV and where I can mount it.
Is the NVR required for the POE camera (or is the only requirement a POE Router?) since according to their web site some functionality is lost when hooked up to an NVR (Time lapse and Google Assistant don't work with their NVR)
Also, it appears that their POE NVR down samples the video to 6mp instead of 8mp (according to their web documentation)
You can use a POE switch or an injector.
These would be handy for my place. One each in the mid spans (half way down each wall span) to get generic 360degrees ... then for the closer stuff, a PTZ dome cam on each corner of the house.
Reolink is pretty good. Their Go cams are some of the best trail cams you can get.
Forget the app and NVR, does it work well with home assistant and/or Shinobi?
Reolink cameras are frequently recommended for use with Shinobi. Check out their support pages or their Discord server.
@@shubinternet that's good to know.
does it work with Blue Iris?
Did you get all the nvr functionality with this camera?
Most of the functions are not avail or won’t load with this camera hooked to the nvr.
No light support, no motion detection support, no motion detection zones.
It looks like my device is on the latest firmware.
I had the same problem and updated the nvr to the new version from April.
@@CUB0T mine was the latest firmware.
I have another one coming tomorrow I’ll test.
Does it record 24/7 ???
Agree with you about playback on the Reolink app being terrible. It also lacks motion tagging, really annoying because sometimes it's hard to tell what triggered the detection. Finally, no rich notifications with thumbnails. Great hardware, but man they need to up their software game.
I don't have hd audio. What am I doing wrong?
It looks like Johnny 5! I'd totally dress it up for Halloween.
@@SmartHomeSolver Thanks. I was trying to get away from using the Ethernet cable but it's not a problem and should work better using one.
Could you tilt the camera down more so no one could walk under it without being detected?
Have you tried blue iris?
Maybe have a look at the Annke FCD600 as well ?
Why the poe version not compatible with NVR? Whyyyy
I am using the older Duo version and other Reolink cameras with Blue Iris which is also connected to Home Assistant and it is working well for me, I think I will have to get a couple of these to add to my setup. Love your content!
That's great to hear and I appreciate it!
I'm also running a couple older duo's on BI. Having it all one stream will look much better on my live view monitors. I'll have to upgrade to the new ones soon, probably when they decide to finally release the doorbell.
@@frostbite1991 I ordered 2 and have one up and and running, they are awesome in BI
Does the Blue Iris show the 2 camera views stitched together or just one of the cameras? I've read that Blue Iris only sees one of the 2 cameras-only one camera network IP address...? The only way to get around it is to use a ReoLink NVR. Thanks
Have thay updated there app
You can improve the reolink nvr performance drastically (on the playback) by upgrading the hard drive to an SSD.
You will improve performance, yes. But how much is a 6TB SSD? Also SDD has a finite read/write times and especially for video recording, you'll burn through those quicker than a 6TB WD Surveillance HDD failure.
Use blue iris, then keep current content on a ssd, and use an old spinny disk for archive
