No problem- I have added two more cameras since....if you order from Reolink they just come with short cables about 3' long? I ordered some cables from Amazon to extend them to where needed and although they were only cheap they work fine too - all at 5MP

Im a pro install tech and I just want to say you did a very good job, I would give you 8 / 10 , mostly because you didnt hide the wires, thats a no no in my trade, wires can cut or damage but other than that awesome job and vid.

Would you recommend installing an exterior box and then mountain the camera to it and running the wires through it thus hiding everything. That's what I was planning on doing

I installed my old 720P 4 camera Night Owl system years ago. This one is basically the same, except this system is WAY Better! I have 4 out of the 8 cameras hooked up and running now. Will get the others up later. Thanks again for the video!!
Does anyone knows the difference between the cameras Reolink offers? Dome, Bullet, Zoom In? Which one is better? What view angle covers (Horizontal or Vertical)? I called Reolink support (after 6 PM Central Time) but the person was not able to explain this. Thanks.

Can all the cameras connect to an Ethernet switch w Cat 6 cable and then connect the switch to the NVR or do all cameras have to connect directly to NVR?
Hey thanks for the video! I was looking at the same Reolink system. I also live in LV and have the same type of soffit. I was wondering if you could install these cameras on either 2x4 under there? Trying to think of the best way to hide the wires
This was my first installation so it wasn't pretty. However I went back and moved the cameras over the wire holes. Here's a video showing that.

Not a bad install, my only recommendation is adding some conduit to protect the exposed wires.

Any recommendation of cables that don't cost so much?
If you're going to run the drops, tell them to run TWO lines. It shouldn't cost you any more than the cable itself. Might as well have a back up just in case.
True i have Cat6 lines in 3 rooms in my house and 2 lines in each room. Probably should have done that. I have a total of 15 Cat6 lines but your right its better to have a back up in case of failure. Thanks for watching!!!

What do you do when you do not have access to attic from outside? Would you recommend running cables to just one access point?
Yes you can run the cables under your roof eves. Use cable clips and I would use Cat6 outdoor waterproof CMX rated cable. This will hold up well in any weather conditions. trying to troubleshoot NVR to get on network. ATT changed my modem to dual band network 5Gh and now the cameras wont showon my network need help.
Hi, I want to add a similar system to my house, can you switch a couple of cameras to two-way audio cameras to the system? It seems all the two-way audio cameras are wireless, which means they may not communicate to a wired system. I may be wrong. Please advise.
Reolink Cameras that support 2 way Audio are E1, E1 pro, E1 Zoom, Argus Pro, Argus 2, Argus Eco, Argus PT, Reolink GO, Argus 3, Go PT. All of these cameras integrate well with the Reolink NVR system and the Reolink Client Software. I have the E1 Pro and its very good. I did a review of it as well. So yes you can switch a couple cameras to two way audio with no problems and you can use other camera brands as well. Thanks for watching and if you subscribed thank you as well.

Yes, you can run the HDMI from the NVR to your TV or you can run HDMI over ethernet which is what I did. You can only view what your NVR is showing on the screen, you can't switch cameras from the TV.

Great video, sir! I ended up purchasing the dome style 4K 8mp Poe camera kit. I have planned to mount them on the exterior walls of the house and just wanted to see if mounting it that way affected your viewing angle? I only ask since on the website it mentioned that ceiling was preferred for some style cameras. Thank you in advance!
Thank you for watching. The viewing angle works well on the wall. I have one camera mounted to the patio ceiling and it covers both back doors. I have zero complaints about this system. I will install 2 more cameras in the future. One above our front door and one in our garage. Keep me posted and enjoy the system.

Question- My router/modem is downstairs in my office. I would like to have the NVR upstairs in a closet like yours. Can I run another modem/router to the closet upstairs or is it limited to 1 router/modem?
Thanks for watching it was a fun install. So your best way to install the NVR upstairs is to run an ethernet cable from your router downstairs to the closet upstairs. You do not need an extra router or modem. Just plug a cat5e or cat6 from your router and plug the other end into the NVR. Done.

Unless you are a professional or network expert, never think of adding a second router (A big no-no) or an access point or a switch box, etc. You will pull too many hairs before making a successful connection, messing up with the SSID, ports etc, that baldness will more successfully follow next!!! Yes as he said, only run a single RJ45 from the NVR box to one of the free sockets of the router. The same way you can again run a single HDMI cable from NVR in the closet to the final monitor location, that may be installed elsewhere or have it assigned to your TV in the living room or likewise, if you have a free HDMI port in the back of TV and with today's smart-TVs, everyone should have many.
@@samsen3965 Well said!! Yes a second router is a pain in the butt for sure. Luckily i have my degree in Cisco Routing and switching. I also have 2 monitors for my NVR one in my closet and then I used HDMI over ethernet to run a monitor to my 65 inch big screen in our family room. I have a video on that very topic. I purchased from your link for model RLK8-520D4 on Amazon and it is not the same model on their website. The cameras you show do not have an SD slot and that model RLK8-520D4 is supposed to have an SD card slot. I don't know what exact model I received because I cannot find one on their website that doesn't have an SD slot and looks like mine. which look like the ones in this video too. Im confused. I think they sent me a cheaper model or left out some advantages on purpose. BTW none of my paperwork included lists the Model number at all.
also have you tested Reolink PoE NVR 16CH if all the 16 ports are utilized does that drop the video quality ? Thanks
No it won't drop the video quality. I have not tested it but its the same as the 8 channel system. The only thing different is it will use more recording space on the hard drive.
Got a ballpark estimate for $400 per line. Seattle area. Nope. Going to do it myself now. I have a couple tricky ones with no direct access to attic, so will need to run conduit on the outside of the house about 40 feet to get it to the attic. Maybe the $400 estimate was high, but they charge to come to my house for an accurate estimate.

I have low voltage pulled out already and wondering if amy cameras have just a socket like wifi access point.
These PoE Cameras have PoE connections that can connect to access point ethernet ports if that's what your talking about.
Just curious, Do you have to use a monitor connect to the back of the NVR to view the camera system and configuration? Could I put the Reolink software on my PC and view it over the internet via IP address or some other way. I would like to be able to just pull the cameras up on my computer if need be without going to my network closet? Also, can you have the app on multiple mobile devices? I would like to add it to a wall mounted Ipad next to my front door for easy viewing with the reolink doorbell feed and when we have deliveries and such. Appreciate the information. I am not to familiar with REOlink and trying to make a choice.
You need the monitor connected to the NVR to setup the system. After that you can disconnect the monitor. You can view the cameras from your PC and other cellphones as well.
Hello do you happen to know what the device with antennas is called that is used for security cameras when adding cameras on a detached building some feet away from main house I have detached garage and would like to add cameras in the back area and seen some cameras wired this way.

Can the cable hole align with the center of the mount so cable isn't exposed?
Yes, I moved a few of my cameras to align directly over the holes. No cable showing. This was my first attempt at camera installations. Thank you for watching.
What are the other two connections on the camera? Do you connect them to something or what are they for?
one is to supply power in case you do not use POE, the other is a reset button, 3rd is for a poe cable

I like having the storage on site. I just feels safer and I encrypt my network so its very safe and secure.

Any good deal on 16 channel NVR? I am planning on setting up 8 cameras and it seems stupid to get NVR that can only support 8 cameras.

I'm interested in the system but not crazy about a quarter turn to remove them from their mounts. My soffit isn't high enough in many places to prevent someone from reaching it. Low chance of that happening but still. Heard of any other Reolink turret models WITH a locking screw/mechanism, etc.? Thanks!
@@CTTH100 I haven't heard of a Reolink Camera turret with a locking system. That would be nice for sure. My cameras are about 10 ft from the ground so no worries for me but in your situation it may be an issue.

Is it possible to set the cameras up so the Ethernet cable outside is hidden, a hole for the cable is made then the camera sits on top of that, hiding the cable completely? I've not seen an install videos that do this, so curious if this doable?
Yes I have one camera underneath my patio that has the wire completely hidden and I reinstalled 2 other cameras and place them over the holes for a cleaner look. The other 3 cameras cannot have that option because of the structure of my roof would make it very difficult to run the wire to the exact location. But yes the ideal way is to place the camera directly over the hole with the cat6. Thanks for watching!

Okay so it comes with (4) 5mp cameras can I purchase extra (4) 4k cameras and it run them as well or the extra cameras got to be 5mp only?
Yes I believe it will work with Reolink NVR system. I have other Reolink camera types and they ALL work with this NVR with no problems.

You DID NOT show the viewing angle of the cameras, night vision, camera video definition, audio, maximum distance you can connect via Cat6 Cabling etc....or maybe I missed it.

How many camera can it record at the same time? I read one source saying 16 is the maximum cameras the DVR can record at the same time. Can I have more than 16 cameras by adding another DVR? Do you think this is possible?
This system records up to 8 Cameras. However they make 16 camera systems. But you will have to purchase additional NVRs for more cameras.

2 does it work without connecting it to the internet?
Yes. wireless mouse should work. It does work without a network connection but you cannot view the cameras from your phone or outside of your home. You can only view it from the monitor. Thank you for watching!

MVR is light , the cables supplied are junk, the mouse is rubbish. Is there anything good about this system ?
Can I aatach external Ethernet switch, and there plug in Camera through PoE charger? I already have network at home, and would like not to drill holes for cable network only for cameras. Any idea how to achieve it?
That might work depending on your network setup. These cameras don't have to be PoE , you can use a power supply to power the cameras. But that requires more wiring so that wouldn't make sense for your situation. I would give it shot and see if it works. Keep me posted and thank you for watching.

Do You have any advance tutorial for seting system up? I have an issue when I download movie it's only 640x480 - not 4k like it is recorded on the disk. Can I somehow force it to get movie downloaded in the 4k res?

Can you plug poe cable straight to your router
No you need a PoE switch or PoE injector. Most routers don't have PoE LAN connections. Get a cheap PoE switch.
Did anyone use the included ethernet cables? Want to know if they are good enough for the install.
They are flimsy so thats why we decided on cat6 riser cable. However, the cables should work just be careful not to damage the cables. They are kind of thin.
A few things missing from your review that would have made this a great review instead of a good one.
1. Audio quality test and sample in the video.
2. Day and night video samples, I only saw daytime samples and only through camera not actual included samples.
3. Motion sense test.
4. Motion pre-record and post-record settings
5. Active motion area configuration
6. Details on mobile app, doe it connect back to your home or does it use a cloud vpn system where they have access to your video feed and if it's a direct connect what router ports and settings need to be implemented. Everything I see seems to indicate the remote app portion is cloud based and streams pass through a chinese server.
Thanks for the comments. It was my first security camera review so I missed a few things. Picture quality at night is typical for most cameras. We had some vandalism late at night around 500am and I was able to use the Reolink DVR to see them tag a wall. Using the Client software on my PC I was able to take snap shots and video to be sent to our local police department. The quality was only good enough to see the taggers but with minimal detail. They where about 40 feet away and they had cellphones as flashlights.
The Reolink Client software connects locally to your DVR. I have 2 videos on the install and basic settings. So check those out. The software is pretty good. And reviewing camera footage is easy to do. And the motion sensor is great because on the client software the motions are in red while the rest of the video is in blue. That's how I found the taggers. Just look for red marks in the recording feed. I've had this system for about a year and I really like it. Thanks for watching and if you subscribed thank you as well.
@@UltimateTechHub Thanks for the reply and great follow-up answers. Night(IR)vision is always troublesome with consumer grade cameras. Even many of the high end Sony cameras are not that great unless you get into the super high end or military grade sensors, but who can afford US$100k per camera for a home system? I am looking at the ReoLink and GW Security. the GW Security software is much nicer but their comparable systems average 30-60% more than the ReoLink and the software isn't that much better. My main concern is not having to connect to a third party system/server when using a mobile device such as a phone when away from the house. I may try to wait just a little bit as it looks like ReoLink is pretty close to releasing their 12MP camera and I want to see if the sensor in that is any better at night. Also have you tried to connect with two mobile phones at the same time when not on your local network? I've come across several systems that will only allow one remote connection at a time. I will go watch your other videos on the system in case they answer these questions. Last thing, the field of view looks pretty normal, and most of their cameras are advertising 87deg. I would rather see 100deg, but how do you feel the field of view is for you?

Nope, and its in my closet so it wouldn't've mattered. But no its pretty quiet.

You can attach an external hard drive I believe up to 2 additional terabytes.
Reolink has built in human/vehicle AI now, not that useless pixel based motion detection. Google assistant with Alexa compatibility in the works.
How is night vision quality ?
Its good. The picture is pretty sharp.
Also you should use the dome cameras for patios or inside should of used the bullet cameras for these angles...just saying!

@@johnnicholson9855 domes can be used for vertical walls, and these cameras have a flip option when viewing as you need to install the dome camera upside down on a flat wall. Bullet cameras are better for flat walls because the mount comes away from the wall and allows better angles facing back at a property
Can one of thes POE camera go over a network switch? I have a customer that needed to us a P2P access point to a shed down her back with 2 other cameras attached to the house. Do you thin this would be possible
I have never connected one to a switch but it would have to be a PoE switch. I would connect to the NVR if possible.

If you install a SD card into the cameras they record on the SD card.

Cat6 has higher bandwidth and is slightly thicker and more durable. I always use Cat6 for any video or data installations it's just better and its future proofing your home and the cost is just slightly higher. If it’s EIFS stucco you will need longer screws. That stuff isn’t strong enough to secure things. I know. It’s on my home.

Yes white cables would have been my obvious choice. I moved most of these cameras a few months later and the cameras are directly over the holes in the walls so the annoying black cables are inside my attic space. Thank you for watching and if you subscribed thank you as well.

NEVER Leave your connects coming out of the camera at the top!!!! NEVER!!!! camera won’t last a year due too weather damage rest of the install was good
I ended up pushing them inside the walls and used plastic cable covers to cover any exposed wires. It was my first time installing PoE security cameras so I made a few mistake's. By the way all of the cameras still work perfectly!

@@soap4594 oh sorry. The RLC 522 is better. The reason the 422 is more expensive and no audio recording. But it does have 4x zoom vs 3x zoom on the 522. The wide viewing angle is slightly better but not enough to justify the extra dollars. Both are 5mp so the video quality is the same. Good luck and enjoy the new camera.

@@soap4594 I hear you. I never use the zoom feature on my cameras. My cameras are set up for optimal viewing and .since they are both 5mp the quality is exactly the same. If you set up your NVR to view on your big screen then zoom will never be needed. I view my cameras on my 65 sharp and the video is incredible. But either camera is good. Thanks for watching.
It makes me laugh when people mention that they are an engineer and they all know it, just because you are an engineer because of a degree does not mean that you have to know everything, much less that you are better than others. In the end it is just a name. If we go, everyone is an engineer since everyone, as thinking beings, always comes up with something to do or a problem to solve. and now with all these videos on TH-cam everyone can learn everything from terminating a network cable to assembling an electric car.

Nice informative video but your installation was horrible. You should of installed the camera under the soffit or on the trim! Too much exposed wiring the jacks should of been hidden inside the attic. 10 years of security camera installation experience...
I installed some beige cable conduit to protect the wires and it blends in well. I will eventually move the cameras to hole location's where it is possible 4 of the 5 can be done. The one on the patio was done without any wires exposed. I'm not a professional camera installer so I should have had the electrical guy drill the holes lower in the location's I wanted the cameras. But once I move the cameras to hole locations I will make a video update. FYI the picture quality is superb. Thanks for watching.

I gave you a thumbs up but thank god you do not do this for a living...Ugly. Camera's should have been put on the fascia with no wires showing. You could have drilled a hole through the fascia board..Clean. Now you have a wire showing from the camera to the stucco. I have the same system easy install but to do a clean job took over 10 hours but clean. Your house is expensive like mine no need to ruin the looks of it. I ask my wife who is a designer for houses what is wrong with this install from looking at it first thing she said the wire from the camera to the stucco....Well enjoy thought I would just mention it...
I added a brown conduit cover over the wires that matched my stucco color. So it blends in better. Thank you for watching.

First: I was suspicious. You didn't give a disclosure. Recommended the system but calling cables junk and special advertisement for one specific CAT6 cable. Additionally calling mouse a junk too (Kind of dream for the seller that puts all the bad accessories in a package to meet the price point goal) when the final conclusion is still "Excellent" "Recommended to all"! And you ain't the only one with OCD out there so I called it initially an "Advertisement in disguise by the manufacturer, Reolink in this case". That is till you admitted about your really true (And almost everyone's) stupidity in attaching the bracket in reverse and showed it actually on your tap. I believed you at this point bro! You ought to be innocent to show that and not hiding it.
Then: I see a lot of overall good reviews for Reolink so definitely want to believe you.
Nag: All good except... (Pressure on OCD bottom). Why on the earth do you go through the trouble of drilling a hole on your walls, into the attic but not making a simple calculation as to where exactly the camera should be installed and actually drill right there so there is no UGLY wire hanging/extending on your wall when the camera could seat right over the hole for a direct, concealed, clear, nice, professional install? This way, there is no question of conduit also as some other poster asked and you've replied, admitting to OCD and re-correction.
Additionally my advice to everyone: Before placing the camera on their final location, definitely have a look with a camera of similar focal length lens (Angle of view) as to what exactly the camera will be finally looking at, from that location. A lot of times when over protecting and placing the camera way up, you're covered by the roof edge, and when placing too low, you invite all the bad things. So make sure what camera is going to finally look at, is actually right. Then drill the holes (Measure multiple times, cut once!). Best is to use the real camera to be installed, via external wiring to box and if not possible, at least check it with your cellphone camera or likewise (Considering the room for final correction of view angle, giving the differences in their lenses and focal lengths.
Bonus: For all who would question the code or need for adding conduit over the barre wires in the attic, No it is not needed as it is low voltage and additionally the section of wire exposed to elements only need a conduit to prevent corrosion and early failure otherwise fire hazard is not a concern here. Or hopefully.
Bottom line: Good job man. You have a new subscriber.
Wow!! Thank you for watching and for subscribing!! I ended up moving the cameras to the wire drop holes about 3 weeks after the install. I wanted the wire drop holes to be lower but the way my house was built that was as low as the drops could be. All camreas were moved higher up to each wire drop so you can't see the wire. I will probably make a video update since I've had a few OCD viewers notice that!! Lol. I yes this is NOT an advertisement for Reolink I just like the product. The cables and the mouse are not good but thats not a deal breaker. The most important thing is the NVR and the 5mp Cameras. They work flawlessly and thats why I recommend it. Also Cat6 is a better choice to future proof your hoise for better technology. Funny thing is the mouse doesn't work very well but I still use it. LOL I just uploaded a Reolink Client software video so if you get this system be sure to download that software for your desktop or laptop. You can view the cameras remotely and use the playback functions. Reolink is a very good product but there are other really good camera companies out there. Just do the research, watch reviews like this and make a logical decision. Good luck with whatever you purchase and keep me posted. Thanks again for watching!!!
