  • Chances are if you have a fireplace you're losing heat through the chimney when you're not burning the fire. Most chimneys don't air seal well and are notoriously leaky. Or as I like to say, " Leakier than a porcupine's water bed."
In this video, I'll show you how to air-seal the chimney without having to go on the roof using an air-sealing chimney balloon.
You can find various sizes of chimney balloons on Amazon* amzn.to/3SfF9sF

Well, I'm trying to see if the inflation hose has a mouthpiece at the end.

This one, did not come with a mouthpiece. Just a plastic hose with a shut off valve. I think the hose is polyethylene

Won’t the balloon deflate or develop a puncture ? Sounds like a bad long term idea

I have two fireplaces in my house that I’ve these on, and they haven’t punctured yet, the plastic is fairly thick and so far they’re still in good shape. They do the flight overtime or lose pressure with temperature, so it’s not a bad idea to check them and reinflate periodically if needed, but for the most part, they worked pretty good for me.

You’re right, a better long-term solution would be to permanently seal, your fireplace, or remove the fireplace and chimney completely.
