That's because that's what the show boiled itself down to... in under two hours... and after 8 years of pretty amazing stuff. E3 felt like it was written by a guy who was doing the Pee Pee dance, and just needed to get it over with so he could run to the bathroom.

His plot armor over the last few season was so obvious I was actually convinced it would lead up to a plot twist where the Lord of Light was actually legit and directly protected him to fulfill the Azor Ahai prophecy. Turns out it was bad writing all along :/

The plot armor would've at least been understandable if Jon had ended up being "destined" all along to be this great, prophesied hero that would save all of the world from darkness. But nah. It's Arya, because...reasons.

I remember the part when Jon was chasing the Night King and the Night King resurrected all the soldiers that died in the battle, and Jon was completely surrounded. I thought the Night King was allowing them to surrender and the wights weren't going to attack, because there's no way Jon was going to escape that horde of wights. Then a bit later you see he somehow fought them all off and I was so confused.
You know something's wrong when even AltShiftX can't justify the episode

I mean what's to hate really ? At least Melisandre was a good character all along and had a good ending.
Love how this entire breakdown starts genuine, and then quickly turns into endless shade about the state of the show's writing.

I'm glad you brought up Ned's death, because for me it was an important moment for the show's stakes. I remember seeing Joffrey order his death and thinking "this is just stupid. How are they gonna possibly get him out of this?" And they dont. He dies, and the show establishes its rules: real consequences for actions. Abandoning that helped destroy the show

Let's be honest. There was going to be criticism no matter what the ending was or will be. Imagine Jon and Dany bravely fighting and getting to the wood at the last moment to kill the Night King and save the world. An entire army of angry fans would have rage because of the predictability of that ending. To be honest I liked the episode. I liked the fact that Arya killed him. It would've been more epic if she would've died while killing him though. Just my opinion.

@@enriquepiquim.6245 The original series is called "A Song of Ice and Fire", not Game of Thrones. The show is an adaptation of the entire book series, and simply took the name of the first book and stuck with it. The main themes from the books were still very prominent in the show, until they stopped adapting from the books.
If the book series was completed before the show began, I have no doubt that these last 2-3 seasons would have been written very differently.
Honestly, at this point, I anticipate Alt Shift's videos more than the actual episodes.

Arya killing the Night King wouldn't have been a problem if there was enough setup for the event. Melisandre saying "you will close brown eyes, green eyes and blue eyes" isn't enough setup.
This line wasn't even originally meant to hint that Arya would join the fight agaisnt the dead, when Melisandre said it to Arya the first time a few seasons ago. The writers conveniently reused that line, just like they intentionally hid or discarded other important hints and plot points, for the sake of having this season make some sort of sense.

Arya Stark's Long, Hard-Fought Campaign Against the Long Night:
S8E01: Learns about the Night King and his undead army.
S8E02: Learns from Gendry that that they are "bad".
S8E03: Destroys the Night King and his undead army.
Probably throws her hands up at her brothers afterward, whose entire purpose in the show has been the battling of this great threat, a threat that makes the petty squabbles over who sits on a seat made of swords completely and utterly pointless, only to do a combined not-a-whole-lot in the great clash between living and dead, when the Night King gave her less trouble than the Waif did.

I legitimately cannot believe how content the showrunners are to jump the shark on arguably the "biggest" television show to date -- you'd think they'd be more invested in guiding their story to its natural conclusion so it had any chance of standing the test of time.
They spent three seasons foreshadowing Arya killing the Night King. It is not jumping the shark if you follow through on something that you have foreshadowed.
@@frankg2790 Actually, D&D said they came up with Arya shanking the Night King about three years ago -- that brings us to when season 7 was in production. "Three seasons" is not at all accurate. If they had truly been planning for Arya to easily nuke their main antagonist and his entire army for such a long time, perhaps they could've taken pains to make it a more satisfying payoff, dontcha think -- instead of embarrassingly half-assing and repurposing an unrelated line from season 3 to make it seem like this had been "prophesied" (which, if true, would just raise more questions).

Melissandre's visions are not like script pages, explaining everything in details. Mostly her visions we're collection of images, a puzzle, which she tries to solve, connecting the dots in the real world. She took her time

Ah here in fairness Sauron lost at the first major city too, Minas Tirith is basically LotR's Winterfell. Osgiliath would be more like The Last Hearth.

Sauron never being able to take Minas Ithil would be comparable to Winterfell, the battle of Minas Tirith would be more comparable to the Night King being stopped somewhere in the riverlands.
And the sad part is, the writers actually made us wait an entire extra year for the “long awaited final season” so that they could do the best job they could and not make the audience disappointed with haste writing.... and now they’ve disappointed us with bad writing... and I wouldn’t be surprised if this was haste writing as well. At least it looks like that. So sad.

It took an extra year because of production, not writing. You also have to keep in mind that whatever they write, HBO gets the final say in everything because they decide what they can pay for, what they'd rather pay for and what they'd rather not bother with. If they wrote quickly, it's because they had to make deadlines so that people could start planning for production which, I'm sure you can imagine, would be crazy amounts of work and very time consuming. Also, remember there are 3 episodes left and it will be easier to judge this episode in the grand scheme of things later.

HBO had a contract with Amazon that when any series finished, Amazon could air it on Prime Video. That contract expired at the end of 2018. So my guess is it wasn’t the more time for writing but the massive amounts of money it would save HBO by not going to Prime.

Arya isn't the embodiment of Death imo. She is a blasphemer against Death. Her lust for vengeance will have consequences. Just as it did when she was training in the HoB&W, and Jaqen had to drink the poison to redress the balance for her crimes against their god. So I don't think her killing the Night King is the victory she thinks it is...

You can tell a man has lost his cool. There's a fire blazing under this icey tone and it only means one thing fellas ; we crossed a line.
I think some people care a little bit too much about the way this show planned out. I love this dudes videos but I would bet that tons of people loved the episode and aren’t really too bothered by what arcs did or did not happen. It was a fun episode, it’s tv that’s why I watch it, if you want all this other stuff stick to books. TV is drama.

SuBveRtInG EXpEctAtiONs! No seriously, the show runners have used this concept as an explanation for fanservice terrible writing. Red Wedding, Ned = that is subverting expectations, not awful writing, lack of coherency, and throwing in Arya to an arc that wasn't hers.

I guess he was actually more busy playing Raven Simulator than checking out the future for useful information.
He can see past/present not the future.
