Based on a series of books I knew of prior to it's film adaptation. Jason Statham's highest grossing film as an leading man at the time. Saw it in IMAX and loved every minute of it. Theatrically, JAWS & Deep Blue Sea were the cream of the crop. But MEG is those films on a serious re-up of steroids. The supporting cast, special effects and set pieces are pretty good. Scenes of characters trying to get away from or fight this monster is either thrilling or hilarious. Just a really expensive B-movie. For the hundreds of shark-related movies that got made and released, it gets no bigger than this (literally, figuratively). Part 2 aka The Trench. Some of the same, still entertaining and has a longer running time than the first.
Jonas was much better in the book. And the way he killed the shark at the end. He piloted the submersible into her mouth, got out cut his way out of her stomach and to her heart, then ripped the heart out with a knife and his bare hands.
You guys not seen Meg 2 yet? You really should. Just for the fact there's 1 character/line in there that fits so well with something you said during this one.
Honestly, I think see it now or in the last few months woulda been a lot better then seeing a couple years ago Imo . Mainly cause we’re dealing with the deep ocean (which in general is scary asf ) and just what happened recently irl with the titanic sub . It’ll make some scenes where their in the deep part of the ocean a bit more tense cause of it
To be fair, my grandpa was in the navy in WW2, and he couldn't swim. So he stashed lifejackets all over the boat, so if something ever happened, he would immediately know where the closest life jacket was.

Fun fact: the dog name Pippet is an Easter egg to Jaws. That was the dog’s name in that movie but he didn’t survive.

As a kid who loved sharks, (Specifically megaladons) this was a very entertaining movie to watch at 10 years old, especially in IMAX theaters.
Fish can live in those depths because they have no air pockets to collapse in their bodies.
