Thing is his ability is very niche-based. Give him an ensemble cast with weird as fuck plot and he’s good to go. His best 2 movies are guardians and Suicide Squad. Very much the same thing in the grand scheme just different levels of adult entertainment.
He probably wouldn’t do great with something like Batman or Superman but give him silly and watch him shine

@Patrick Whelpley Not exactly. They own HBO Max, which this film got released on simultaneously w theatrical. WB planned ahead for it to underperform, so they're def looking at both the box office AND streaming. If it gets big on Max, it's a win!

A lotta people think Ratcatcher 2’s powers are gross but actually, domesticated rats are very strict about their hygiene. Sure the rat army at the end are probably stereotypical dumpster diver rats but Sebastian, at least, is pretty clean

Well, it's called The Suicide Squad for a reason, and Gunn even said don't get attached to any of the characters. He straight up murdered a shit load of people in this one. Favorite ones though were Cena as Peacemaker and Stallone as King Shark. Now imagine Gunn doing either a Lobo or Plastic Man movie. Both would be amazing.

James Gunn is really good at taking a team no one really knows or cares about and completely changing that in a couple of hours.
I loved everything about this movie! Cena continues to surprise me with his acting ability. Well done.
It takes a great director to get that ability out of an actor and Gunn did wonders for Cena. Just like he did Bautista.

This is, technically, a director's cut, Warner Bros. gave James Gunn total creative freedom to entice him to work for them. They didn't tell him no, at all. you can tell.

This movie was such a blast from beginning to end and I hope James Gunn does more DC movies because he really knocked it out of the park with this one. Loved the amount of gore in this aswell as the practical effects and the entire cast killed it IMO, especially Cena and Stallone as King Shark.

That depends on the story. This movie was like a good old 80s rated R action flick. This is why rated R can work depending on the story. Marvel can have PG-13 and rated R movies. Black Widow origin story should have been rated R.

Polka dot was honestly one of the best characters in this movie. Didn't think I was gonna like him that much, but he blew me away. Peacemaker too, not really a big Cena fan, but he knocked this role out of the park. Can't wait for his tv show coming out in early 2022.

Cause of covid mainly, but the R rating, delta variant concerns and previous movie having a bad reputation but hbo Max release killed it's legs. It's available on day 1 in HD.

James Gunn did some ABSOLUTELY legendary work on this film! The chemistry between the group was far superior in this version! Ratcatcher 2 was a nice surprise, too! Idris killed it as Bloodsport and every other character was fantastic! Looking forward to more from Gunn and DC!
This movie was boss. Interesting Trivia: Sebastian the Rat - had both a CG and a real rat in the film - and the real one's name is (IIRC) Jaws.
