From which headset are you upgrading? And is it for PCVR?
All your links are UK urls.....
What's it like for playing videos like what meta quest themselves have on the headset to watch?
Or youtube vr videos, netflix, Amazon? The grainy visuals of the quest 2 put me off. Does it really depend on the video makers or can the headset improve this?
Your not getting the full headset resolution if your using virtual desktop. The only way to get the full headset resolution is over cable using oculus link (maybe wireless oculus link) and when you turn the video slider to at least 1.3 in the oculus pc desktop app under device. Norm on tested pointed this out, i confirmed it. I wish i could get full resolution over virtual desktop because passthrough works when using it. Its amazing at full resolution.
I hate this video and how he is moving the camera like he has some deep problems, it's beyond annoying...
I ordered vr rock on September 18th and zenni on September 27th. Zenni was $50 and VR rock was close to $100 after tax. I got the zenni's yesterday, and the vr rock ones haven't even shipped out yet... Anyone who reads my comment use that information to make your decision on prescription lenses.
Finally, the review I've been waiting for!
I sold my Index over the summer as I wasn't using it as much - I had no dedicated space to leave all the cables and base stations setup without it feeling super cluttered, so it became a pain in the butt to use because it was setting it up from scratch every time.
Great video! It would be interesting to test how much performance the video encoding takes in quest 3 or pico 4 compared to vr headsets with displayport at the same resolution
Perfect upgrade for OG Vive as well. Not tried another headset in 6 years. Amazing stuff!
Good honest review. I'm glad you pointed out the better binocular overlap on the Pico 4. So many don't mention that. It's good to hear many opinions including reddit. You might add the Pico 4 wins on comfort once you upgrade the interface to Geekvr 16mm pad.
That's MRTV! Glad you like it!
@@mixedrealityTV I played Quest 3 on Godlike mode with my 3080Ti and to my surprise it kept the 30 fps of the Ultra mode, improving the visuals. Going to H.264+ improved them further but affected the fps.
This headset is INSANE and the future of PCVR is wireless, to the contrary of what I thought two weeks ago.
@@jango71 It's an incredible headset. I couldn't believe the graphics where better than even my G2 on a display port. Edge to edge clarity is out of this world.
Totally agree as a pico 4 user, that did return q3. With VD-OXR runtime, Pico4 runds great atm.
I only really use VR in flight sims. I have a 4090 and 13900 cpu. I have been using an Index since it's release and have resisted "upgrading" as no headset has seemed better overall. With the arrival of my new Quest 3 this week- with a proper Link cable, bitrate up to 900, and the oculus resolution up to 1.3- it blows the Index out the water. Yes- sound is not as good, and neither is comfort. However- both of these things can be fixed. The lenses are amazing, and the resolution upgrade: wow! It is genuinely like seeing an HD panel for the first time.
whats the fov like VS index?
To all intents- the same as the Index. Being exact- it is ever so slightly narrower, but the edge to edge clarity more than compensates. For reference, I found the G2 too narrow in FOV and used mine once.
Wait, how is the comfort worse than the Index? It's 30% lighter. Index is a heavy beast.
@@Real28 the face gasket is hard and doesn’t fit my face very well- and the strap is less supportive- so you need to tighten the headset onto your face to keep it in place. I’ve since upgraded to the boboVR head strap and am happy with comfort level
I've got a Quest 3 on the way! Can't wait!
Great advice and like the ton of comparisons: very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks, loving the Quest 3 :-)
Thanks for the video, interesting about the Pico4 which I use today. The biggest visual upgrade I got was when switching to a 4090 and could then use VD with HEVC 10 bit which is amazing. The only downside is that the wireless/godmode has massive pc requirements so getting anything higher res would probably need a displayport instead. The Pico 5 pro max would be a great next upgrade if it really does have double the resolution and a displayport.
Thank you. All the other youtubers have been ignoring me on this subject. Perfect
Glad I could help
Thank you Sebastian. Great review. I'm a flight sim enthusiast and will definitely wait to see what Pico has to offer in 2024, before upgrading from my Pico 4.
Thank you!!
Great video. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
This was one of your best videos 👏
Glad you enjoyed it!
best review i've seen so far
brill info big thanks
You are welcome!
Great review! The only other thing I would love to see is a quick dive into how the Pro controllers perform with the Quest 3.
I've been waiting for your review to make up my mind, and it was definitely worth it! I'm so happy you used a mobile 3080 instead of plugging it into a 4090. I can't comment if you're right or wrong because I don't own the Quest 3, but that's why I'm watching this video in the first place lol.
Thanks
The controllers work great and tracking is wonderful.
This is the video I was waiting for so thank you! As a Reverb G2 owner for the past couple years, I've been pretty happy but the below average FOV and very small sweet spot has always bothered me and created some motion sickness. I'm definitely considering the Quest 3. Bigscreen Beyond and Crystal are just too expensive.
As an ex G2 owner (for driving sims) I couldnt get past the tunnel effect, narrow sweet spot and lens glare. The MQ3 is a distinct improvement in those areas
I have both, Quest 3 may not charge over PC USB.
Did you get a Q3 in the end, is it a better PCVR exp than the G2?
@terminalrex Yes I did. The clarity of these pancake lenses is just so much better in every way. No more tiny sweet spot with blurry image off center. And being able to go wireless is really great. I upgraded my router to wifi 6 and it's lightning fast with very little noticeable compression. Three drawbacks, however.. Its quite a bit heavier than the G2 so comfort is not as good even with an upgraded head strap and I'm not a huge fan of Oculus software. It just feels like I have so many extra steps to get into a game. Also, the battery is not very good. If you want that sweet 120hz and high bit rate it only lasts for like 1 hour or less. I got a usb-c high bandwidth link cable but it only slows down the battery drain. Once you add up the cost of a cable, upgraded head strap and other basic accessories you're looking at $600 minimum. I'll probably keep it until the next big leap in tech comes out.
Thanks for the info. currently looking at upgrading from the g2 to these@@PCPAyLOAD
With my 3080ti I keep G2 for PC games and I go for the Q3 for standalone and Mixed reality games.
I got my Quest 3 yesterday. The HP G2 still wins in resolution and comfort, the Quest 3 wins in the sweet spot, controllers tracking, stand alone and mixed reality.
For simulation games I see the G2 is still better, the mixed reality in the Q3 is amazing and the youtube 3D sbs in the navigator MX are freaking awesome.
Just recently purchased a Q3 with elite strap and own a 4090. Coming from a G2 the edge to edge clarity is amazing. Very impressive for the price.
How’s the artifacts due to compression? That’s what is holding me back. I had a G2 V2 with a 4080 and while the center was great, the narrow sweetspot ruined the immersion for me.
They are there, but hardly noticeable if you have a good GPU and well worth it for the edge to edge clarity. Also enjoy using the headset without a cable. 6E and Virtual desktop FTW . @@shattia
@@seattime4075 thanks for replying
Hi , thank you for your good video...I record video 360 with the x3 camera, but the quality was low in the Q3 display. For commercial work, what camera do you recommend with a high quality display in the Q3? I was disappointed with x3 and rs1, my customers want higher quality
Wonder if doing Cabling it would provide even better clarity?
Thanks for your videos! it is good news that with a 3080 mobile you are getting close to the G2 clarity, there's still hope to my desktop rtx 3070 then.
One thing you didn't mention was how you are connecting wirelessly. I assume that you're using virtual desktop, but are you connecting to a Wi-Fi 6E router? My experience has been that the quest two would connect at a solid 1200, the pico four would not maintain a solid 1200 but will drop down to 800 or 500, however the quest three connecting to a wireless 6e router gets a solid 2400! This can make a big difference using virtual desktop and could be a reason to upgrade from the Pico 4 (which has been my go to headset for a year or more).
I have a 7900 xtx, what settings Would you recommend in the headset and virtual desktop? Thanks
perfeito, perfeito, simplesmente ótimo!
After seeing all those videos about the Quest3, I know by now that it will be a good headset next to my Pico4. Having the Pico4 and the Quest2, I only use the Quest2 for Quest specific gaming, but hardly for PCVR. Then my Pico4 is the one I use. But I can imagine that the Quest 3 will be used for PCVR as well..
In HLAlyx, the other day I maxed out the resolution for the quest 2 on a 3080ti using a cable without dropping frames. While the colors and blacks certainly don't wow me at all. The level of detail is actually very good until you look into the far distance. Then it gets quite fuzzy. But from 50 yards away so to speak I was actually kinda surprised what details I could make out. Which reminded me that quest 2 games do not take full advantage of the headset's full resolution. Very blurry in comparison to a PC cable connection.
I just got the TP-Link RE815XE and use it as an access point to get an exclusive Wifi-6E Signal in my room for the Quest 3 :) looks awesome
I love the quest 3 😄
The quest 3 is amazing
As someone who is a PCVR enthusiast and does not intend to purchase one, I do find your assessments to be good. I have an Index, but I'm still waiting to see what the Somnium VR1 looks like (including its price) and if Valve is going to actually announce anything.
Valve/Somnium headsets before 2025?
@@Davids6994 lol Yeah, the VR1 is supposed to reach the first wave of buyers before the end of 2023 and more production runs in early 2024.
Who knows anything about Valve until they finally say something. It's frustrating.
Somnium's CEO is polar opposite from Valve in the way he communicates with people constantly, especially in Discord.
So I own a Gen 1 Reverb. Would getting a quest 3 be a great step up? I would assume the resolution is not as high? Half life alyx looks amazing in my reverb.
You should test your f o v with the facial interface removed so the lenses hover in front of your eyes like quest pro. When I tested mine using r o v app and the bobo m2 headstrap with face gasket removed so I could swing the bottom of the lenses a half inch closer to my cheeks and brushing my eyelashes on the lenses, I got 20 degrees wider fov. Roughly 130 horizontal. It looked close to small fov on pimax 8kx (small, not potato). It looked borderline like a wide fov headset. Wider and much larger than Vive pro 2. Can you confirm?
I feel like trying to push the FOV considerably higher than intended is going to result in some serious warping around the edges?
@Thezuule1 No warping, but the vertical fov for me maxed out at about 105 degrees because I could see where the rendering stopped at the bottom of the panels. Didn't see the edges at the sides or top. Most of these heasets can get bigger fov with thinner face gasket/ thinner interface etc (look up MRTVs Reverb G2 FrankenFOV mod for example... or vive pro 2 fov mod). I feel like most people should be able to gain at least 10 degrees Horizontally (up to 120) with the interface removed and the lenses not pushed into their face, just closer. There's quite a bit of wiggle room. Like a half inch.
Hey, I tried this but for me the edges of the screen show even with the face gasket on so with it removed didn’t change the fov when I tested it
hey! thanks for the video! do you have any video about that vr sampling I do have 4090? im thinking to get g2 or quest 3 for mostly sim racing, thanks
What if I was linked would
It be better than wireless? I got an index valve and even with the steam link oculus quest 3 the valve since it uses display port looks better…
FINALLY!!!!!
The best channel which describes
Thank you !
12:52 What about Quest 3 USB cable connection to PC to act as PCVR , compared to G2 visuals quality?
with an rtx 3080ti mobile how would preform and with which resolution and refresh rate should i put with quest 3 ?
I need to optomize my PC 4090 for wireless gamming. I got a dedicated wifi6e card for my PC and set everything up so it's 5ghz 160. Oculus only reportsup to 200mbps, VR desktop only gets 50-80 and I can't change it. Get a different ammount everytime I launch. Basically can you make a video on the best way to play PC games on quest 3 with a solid gaming rig, and hit on the new codex AV1 or whatever. AND Steam VR settings? and/or just Oculus debugging tool. All a bit much and I could use an awesome guide - would probably pull in a lot of people of you cover all that - like just genaral ooptimization folks. Thanks!
Binocular overlap is that the reason why i noticed that yes you are in the game but in other headsets i have more presence more 3d feeling of a room?
Yes
Better even with compression?
Great review generally thanks but you say it's amazing for streaming wired, you didn't show this in the vid but have you actually tested it? Because I have heard from a lot of people that it's broken right now with a bug causing massive latency.
How do you get so much more fov on the quest 3, when i switched from a quest 2 the fov was roughly the same, maybe just a little bit more. I did an fov test and it was around 80-90 horizontal and same for vertical, but in your test you get 106 horizontal and 106 vertical. Is there a way to get more?
Hi Sebastian, How does the passthrough of the Metaquest 3 compare with the Lynx R1?
The Lynx has lower resolution displays and that shows. But I don't have a Lynx here so I cannot really tell.
QuestGamesOptimizer v9.0.0 was released today for the Quest 3. Please can you do a review on the improvements to Quest 3 resolution etc?
Please give a demo on how to watch movies on this headset, the quest 3.
Some things feel like upgrade from index but not mic or sound but sound ain’t bad and it’s lighter I guess
One not mentioned here is that a used quest pro for the same price as quest 3 + strap $$ is better for pcvr. Qled colors (better than my aero), local dimming, better blacks, 10bit rgb, dynamic foveated rendering, face tracking (check Zuck/Lex interview), better design, balance, jet fighter visor look and more comfortable after adding a horizontal strap, also removing the forehead pad for similar fov. Best value headset at $600-700.
yeah... I've got the Pro and pretty sure it's as good a headset except for the depth sensor - but of course I'm still angry about paying full price as early adopter.
I think the better colors offset the slightly worse resolution. And the comfort offsets the better chip.
I like the Quest 2, Quest 3 and Index, I have all 3, for a big fov and acceptable screen resolution, not having to worry about battery life going down, a comfortable headset to wear with good earphones on it, the Index, for wireless, fantastic screen resolution, vibrant colors, sharpness and near Index fov, the Quest 3, for a backup wireless headset when the battery on the Quest 3 goes down, the Quest 2, acceptable fov and good screen resolution, doesn’t hurt to have more than one vr headset as a backup when you need it
I like you. My kind of guy.
i have a g2 its cable went faulty for no reason its not damaged physically it just failed on its own i am planning to buy the cable and sell it and get quest 2 or 3 what do you think?
You should really try it with AV1 10bit codec. I was personally blown away.
Imagine 10bit Display Port with 4k per eye + microOled !!
Nice comparrison, comfort is a big factor for me. I sometimes work up to 10hrs a day in vr and get fatigued in my index. Quest/reverb seem to be worse. I actually find my cv1 most comfortable due to the weight but the faceplate isnt good. Comfort is complicated due to a lot of variables. Thinking the bsb will be the best best for me... unless the deckard shows up this year
You take orders at meta McDonald?
@@jacklesmithda3rd502😂
Simply the best VR headset in the market. Meta nailed it. Good video.
It’s good but not the best.
@@Bigpopp1 Considering the whole package and the price, the lenses, the features, the standalone capabilities, the mixed reality, the availability. All that put together makes this the best VR headset for most people.
@@Bigpopp1 in the total experience it is, the only competitor in the segment is the Pico4, both price and all in one experience, and it's behind in pretty much everything beside the resolution... consideing that right now is challenging wired only pcvr dedicated headsets toe to toe (in this video without AV1, best wireless quality, or wired) at half or 1/3 of the price is tbh impressive
@@Bigpopp1
Needs a Micro-OLED display, or at the very least LCD+Local dimming for deeper inky blacks. Eye tracking & FR for to conserve/use more power and compatibility with XBOX series X for PSVR2-tier power. :P
The black levels have me worried, and i fear it's just going to be anothr indie VR cess pool. PSVR2 has Resident Evil 4 VR Mode on the way, what does quest 3 have?
I love the sound of the G2. Just wondering, how does the sound on Qu3 compare to Qu2
It's better. Louder and more bass!
I have a 4090 and I can tell you that the Quest 3 is spectacular with it Half Life Alyx is like a new game now. Other games are also amazing. It's pricey but having the power of a 7900XTX, 4080, or 4090 is great with Virtual Desktop (don't try to use AirLink LOL).
I hear a new compression codec, I believe AV1, is available for Airlink in VD and is much improved for Airlink on Quest 3. Is that not the case?
@@ajuvix AirLink is specifically Meta's wireless tech and does not have AV1 support. VirtualDesktop does have AV1 and AV1(10-bit) support which looks and performs very well with my 4090.
@@AshtonCoolman still not sure why Meta didn't have that ready day 1 but my desktop software still tells me that a 4070 doesn't meet the minimum requirements for VR sooooo....
@@Thezuule1 I pretty much only exclusively use VirtualDesktop now. It's always been better for wireless PCVR. Just use it and ditch Meta's subpar software LOL. VirtualDesktop even properly works with AMD GPUs.
@@AshtonCoolman when did Virtual Desktop add wired connections? In any case, AV1 support not being included in Air Link the day the Quest 3 went on sale is inexcusable imo.
Latency??? What about Latency vs something like the G2 or even the Rift S?
How do you recommend to connect the Quest 3 for best visuals on PCVR? Wireless via Steam Link or wired with Link cable?
Wireless via Virtual Desktop.
Great video as always! I am an owner of many VR headsets and my favorite "wireless" setup is without a doubt HP Reverb G2 v2 combined with Zotac VR GO 4.0 (VR backpack computer). Wireless feeling, no compressed video or delays, and no internet needed for streaming. (if you want to take it outside and play in GIGANTIC areas without boundries. Or you can use a hotspot from your phone if you still want to play online :)
Downside is the cost of the vr backpack. It cost more than my car haha.
Somebody needs to build a standalone headset with that form factor (headset + backpack). This would allow for a very lightweight headset and the best of both worlds.
@mbaxter22 yeah how amazing wouldn't that be? :D I'm sure it's not far into the future though. I have worked with VR since 2016 and I love how it's evolved. Sure- my setup isn't for everyone but for my development in games and general play it is my absolute favorite setup! Combine it with Bose quietcomfort headphones as well and the immersion is out of this world :)
What’s the best headset for pcvr 4090 wired connection?
Having played around with the Quest 3 for a few days now and having owned a G2, yes I agree with pretty much everything you've said. I was worried the Quest 3 visuals wouldn't match the G2 and they didn't for a while but fortunately I have an RTX 4090 and when I pushed the visuals, it was better than the G2 with an amazing edge to edge clarity. Only caveat to that so far is that it does lose some performance in titles like MSFS and the SDE is there but it's pretty faint and not an issue with the clarity you gain. I'm certainly hoping and expecting performance to improve in this headset over time, especially in wireless mode. Thanks Seb! Very happy! 👍
Your not getting the full headset resolution if your using virtual desktop. The only way to get the full headset resolution is over cable using oculus link and when you turn the video slider to at least 1.3 in the oculus pc desktop app under device. Norm on tested pointed this out, i confirmed it. I wish i could get full resolution over virtual desktop because passthrough works when using it. Its amazing at full resolution.
@@earlgeorge2206 so if you use the cable, you think I can beat the G2 with a 4070ti? I only use VR for flight sim.
I got a g2 also. I wont even touch it anymore because of the optics alone. Its my first headset where i don't feel uncomfortable after being in it for hours. The optics are so nice and also the presence you feel in games is outstanding. The G2 might be a little clearer mainly because the lcd screens are tilted in quest 3 for a wider FOV so pixels arn't aligned horizontol and vertical. The FOV was a shocker. I feel I don't need any more FOV then this in a VR headset. But every game I've tried I've just been like wow the feeling of presence is insane. Controllers are my favorite out of any headset and i had index too. One AA battery lasts forever. The only downside on this headset is when plugged in PC the battery drains. And some people are lucky to have a USB-c port that charges it top speed. Either way , when your battery dies, game over and you gotta wait. I usually get about 2 hours on pc but my usb-c is not charging full speed like it did on my quest 2. Also, if you player over virtualdesktop instead of oculus link, you can have your long usb-c chord plugged into the power outlet that comes with headset to get maximum charge. But from my experience I cannot get the same resolution in virtualdesktop i get when using chord through oculus link and setting the oculus desktop app to at least 1.3 on the resolution slider. You would think you could just adjust supersampling in steam vr and you would get full resolution, but i have done that and its not the same resolution on virtual desktop. Its like the oculus desktop app changes the device resolution. Either way chord would be way better then wireless IMO.@@AmilcarP
I like to hear what you have to say about the passthrough quality. How do you set up your laptop for wireless VR with Quest? Do you use ethernet to conenct to the switch/router and then set your laptop as an AP for the Quest?
You could but you can just connect the laptop to the router with ethernet and then connect your headset to your router as normal. Chances are your router is going to do a better job than the wireless on your laptop but YMMV.
@@Thezuule1 I only ask because my house I have several APs that are strategically position for better coverage, not max speed. If I can use PC or laptop wifi as an AP I would have better in-line/in-sight and they are Intel AX211 modules
@@rotarydude07 give it a shot and see what happens. I just use my router and don't have issues. Whatever way works better do it that way.
Fov was all i really cared about lol, i knew the screen would look better thant he q2 but i was very disappointed when the leaks were saying that there was no FOV improvement. Glad it seems like its higher than what people initially expected.
Try it without the facial interface if you're using a halo strap. Just let it float close in front of your eyes like the Quest Pro. You should be able to gain significant fov... 10-20 degrees. If you don't have a halo strap, just take off the interface and then hold the Quest 3 closer in front of your eyes to get an idea of the gains you could expect.
Gains!
Hi guys I was wondering what is a great OLED or Micro Oled headset for pcvr since I have a 4090 etc?
Bigscreen Beyond
@mixedrealityTV thanks so much brother!
It’s always reviewed with the 4090 in mind. It’s not a realistic GPU for most people. I’ve not had my 3080 that long when you think how much they ended up being. It’s not plausible to upgrade to a 4090 and then buy a headset on top. It had better be a good experience at that price. I’d primarily use it for DCS and want it wired, no wireless. I feel the need to replace the G2 because of Windows stopping support. Need an honest review about what is happening with that and what it means for G2 owners.
Mr Sultan of VR swank... Thanks for the review and doing the FOV test. I wonder how good this is using the link cable and having a 3070 GPU. I am not near the router at this location so I most likely would need to use the link cable.
I will check that out @l!
@@mixedrealityTV I don't buy anything until I watch all your reviews and info. you're one of the few I trust.

I need your honest opinion. I currently have a rift s and want to upgrade. Here are some of the peramiters. I have a 4070ti, if need be i would get either a dongle for direct wifi or that cable that can take the charger too. The onboard speakers are a moot point as I have headphones. Also i would purchase a better head thing
Yeah you will love the Quest 3.
Did you mention the battery going dead on Quest 3 where not an issue on others
I took my pico3 out of the dust again to try it out. I'm sure my pico4 is now going to collect dust. Of course via dp. Colors better, clearer image.
Too shaky in my opinion in every VR headsets. Is there any "stabilization" because our eyes doing that while moving head even if heads moving by little bit.
with the vr rock lenses, do you need to adjust the slider as they protrude out more or can u still play with maximum FOV? please sebastian
Well you can still get very close to the lenses. Much better than if you would use glasses.

Hi Sebastian, great video.
Funny, you never mentioned the Aero as one of the HMDs in your high end list.
As for everything else, I agree except for the part of the Pico 4, I find the Quest 3 a LOT better than the Pico 4 (everyone's eyes are different), I find the colors in the Q3 to be more intense, better clarity and the full FOV being clear (edge to edge clarity), the Pico 4 gets very blurry toward the edges both vertically and horizontally. In example, the Virtual Desktop stats overlay, in the Quest-2 and Pico 4, the top half is clear than fades into a blurry mess further down, it's perfectly clear, all of it, in the Q3.
Also, for myself, the Pico 4 suffers from bad compression in distance viewing (racing sims, looking father down the race track), be it with Pico's Streaming Assistant or VD. Where as with the Quest 3, I have to go out of my way to look for the compression in the same scenario using VD. So far, I am very much enjoying the Quest 3 and my Pico 4 will probably join my collection of old HMDs that only get used when I feel nostalgic! LOL
As for the comparison with the Reverb G2, agreed, but having the better FOV and edge to edge clarity is a huge advantage, the other HUGE advantage, the Quest 3 doesn't need WMR, that alone is worth something, oh how I HATE WMR!!!!!!! LOL.
Great write up thank you. I was wondering if i wasted money buying quest 3 vs pico 4. Glad to hear i made the right choice. Over my quest 2 i am absolutely blown away by the lense clarity and the big jump in FOV.
same feeling. q3 edge clarity while pico mostly in center. Better colours out of the box. you can boost saturation in pico4 pcvr but still have this weird overlay
I think the Pico 4 has quality control issues, especially for older units. I have one coming friday and I hope it works out because of the best binocular overlap of them all.
The VD stats overlay point is interesting. The whole thing is totally clear on my Pico 4. I think it's because I changed to a halo strap (GeekVR) and facial interface, so can get closer to the lenses. The visible blur is only right at the very edges of the screen, for me, where it is uncomfortable to look anyway.
@@AbideinChristFullyhow are you finding it?
When I play DCS either wired or wireless in the Q3 I am experiencing a blurry and/or under rendered lower part of the lenses. Like the bottom 20% of the view straight across left to right is considerably less resolution that the other 80% of the screen. Any other game doesn’t do this. Visuals are great across the entire lenses. Anyone experiencing this as well?
Hi Sébastian
Thank, thank you so much for this amazing vidéo,big test, well done ,I love 😍👍🏻👍🏻
I have a g2 +RTX 4090 ,if I want a update Not expansive ,the Quest 3 it’s the final choice ,the good choice in 2023 !
Not 1000/2000€$ ,519€ for Quest 3-128go in CEE/France 😍👍🏻
Aplushhss 😇👍🏻👍🏻
Unfortunately for me my ipd is 55mm, have still yet to sell my reverb g2 but can never get it to look clear to me, my oculus rift s looks a lot more clear, unfortunately.
Please, what router? wifi6 or wifi6e?
What did you use to connect Quest 3 to your PC?
I guess the G2 was well made when it comes to clarity. I love the clarity on it. I will hold on the Q3 for now. Plus, I have a 4070ti, so I do not have a monster like the 4090.
Good. Glad you are watching this channel.
4070 is more than enough
@@brucerain2106good to know. I have a 4070 Ti and getting a Q3 for Christmas. Haven’t had a VR headset since the first PlayStation one.
Thanks for comparing with Pico 4.
No problem!
So total noob question here, but how are you using your graphics card without a cable? Where are you setting that over sampling?
I am using "Air Link" so I can use the Quest to wireless stream PCVR content. The oversampling can be set in the Meta desktop software or in steamvr.
The last HP Reverb G2 video before all WMR headsets are official being depreciated with Windows 11 24H2.
18:38 Some games do not over supersampling or steamvr per-game supersampling does nothing (Pavlov VR?) - would OpenXR driver supersampling setting improve the perceived resolution in games? Would NVidia setting in NVidia control panel do this on top of game/steamvr? Could be interesting to see such video about the topic and experiments.
The NVIDIA control panel does impact VR output using the super sampling options. I try to stay away from FXAA in game settings and customize game settings via the NVIDIA control panel instead. At times it offers better control over output in SteamVR then the actual in-game settings. I find anisotropic filtering helps boost fidelity & I up my VRAM to help remove some load on RAM and GPU.
my biggest gripe with the G2 is the tracking volume. It's terrible. if you're looking straight ahead it cant see your controllers by your hips. will upgrade to Quest 3 soon
That makes sense!
Just got mine. I like it but I’m getting eye strain. Something seems off with the optics.
Binocular overlap is not perfect.
Yeah they need to fix the local dimming in the crystals firmware. That bug is annoying
How does the quest 3 play games in mixed reality mode as a floating monitor? I'm curious about playing Forza Horizon where I can still see my wheel and desk.
Gooooood
that would be a really cool demo, I need to be able to see my wheel and hands@@mixedrealityTV
I have an rtx 2070 super and primarily want to play DCS world. Do you think quest 3 would be viable or stick with g2? trying to choose my first headset
G2
I would love to get one of these but after going from a quest 2 to a reverb G2 the difference in latency is making a huge difference to my sim racing. I have no way of measuring the difference and I can’t find it in the specs of the headsets. The quest 2 latency was not bad enough to notice but something always felt slightly off compared to a monitor. Only after switching to the G2 am I realizing the quest 2 definitely had a lot more latency. Best I can tell is it’s maybe like 0.1-0.2 seconds. Not enough to notice and say the screen is really lagging behind but in sim racing those tenths of a second make a huge difference over the course of a lap. Both units were always run at a steady 90fps.
I’d love to get a quest 3 but I’d be really nervous about reintroducing that latency if it is still as bad as on the quest 2. Idk how it could be better when it still just uses 1 usbc for power data and video, having to compress the data and decompress it on the headset side. It just has to result in more latency than using dedicated power input, data, and display ports, with no compression occurring anywhere along the line.
There are rumors according to which it's possible to connect USB network adapters to the Q3. Any idea if those are true? I feel like these people on reddit might be trolling others.
If it's 4090+quest3 and AV1 codec 10-bit setting, I'm not envious of VR devices like Crystal or Beyond. 4090+quest3 is a fantastic combination. 😲😲 👍👍
This TH-camr did a very sharp analysis.😲
Bought it and liked it, but it's not enough of a jump to give up my Index so sent it back. My index super sampled isn't far worse, although I noticed more screen door once I got back on the index. Also the battery issue and having to recharge as well as the poor software, just meant its not of enough a jump for me just yet. The quest 3 is a nice headset though
The battery issue can be solved if you don't mind the cable (though most people want Quest 3 for wireless capabilities). I had that setup before for my Quest 2. I bought a PCI-E thunderbolt card compatible with my motherboard. It had USB-C Fast charge ports. I bought VR Cover USB-C to C link cable. This setup allowed me to play indefenitely and since it's on cable, the latency was better, experience was smoother and quality was better because I could increase bit rate more than when using wireless. Of course I would still prefer to be able to do wireless so I have powerbank that I put into my back pocket for that.
@chadef555 yes I bought a cable but it wouldn't charge it even when I was playing. Left it connected to pc overnight and headset was dead in the morning. Maybe could have searched a bit more for a better cable or even bought the battery pack , but the price then starts creeping up. I think this is more a stand alone headset and over the next year or so I'll see something that truly feels like an index upgrade
@@carltonsmall682 like i said the only way to make cable actually charge and keep playing indefinitely is pcie thunderbolt card. Most link cable products are advertised to charge/keep charge but it's bollocks and only slow down the discharge a little. Actual quick charge is required to make it work.
To people that say they cannot see screendoor on the Quest 3, your eyesight is way off. It is absolutely very noticeable on Quest 3. When you first power up the Q3 and the Meta logo shows up, the screendoor is very visible on the logo. 25 ppd is nowhere near what it will take to not see the screendoor anymore.
G2 has similar resolution and you can't see the screen door on that. So where's your logic on ppd? It's more then the defining factor
Hi
Have you tried removing the face gasket and using it without as a few people have said that it’s almost on a par with the pimax medium fov which would be amazing if so ?
It's not, it's a lie.
@@mixedrealityTV Such a shame . So am guessing it’s just in a par with an index then ?
@@paulnicolas172 you are getting a few more degrees but it's not crazy different
@@mixedrealityTV Much appreciate the info 😥 Am crying now lol - was expecting a better fov but it’ll still be my index for now . Cheers 🥂
Best way to play wireless? I've tried Virtual Desktop, PC connected with ethernet, router nearby, 5ghz band, yet bonelab feels sluggish upon fast movement with some screen tearing.
Your setup might be the problem.
@@mixedrealityTV As in PC? It's pretty decent, 16core cpu, 128gb ram, Nvidia 3090
Im only running a 3070 😢... is that good enough for this?. Thanks for your video 👍🏻🍻
It's ok and you can have fun. But funny expect the highest quality.
Because of the way VR displays work you aren't actually super sampling when running slightly above the headset resolution. A Quest 2 requires a resolution of 5400x2700 to get 1:1 resolution at the center despite that being considerably higher than the resolution of the panel. A Quest 3 requires somewhere around 7000x3750 to achieve the same.
I thought Pancake lenses required less compensation than fresnel?
Also doesn't quest 2 require 1.7x the native resolution to get the full panel utilisation? That's a lot less than you quote but I'm likely wrong.
Fwiw, if you take the same rendered resolution on a quest 3 and a pimax crystal you'll still have a much better image on the crystal so at least it's not necessary to absolutely max the render resolution to get visual gains.
@@HeadsetHistorian pancake lenses may require less, and we should hope that's the case given that the resolution slider still maxes out at the same place as it did on Quest 2 lol. On my system at least roughly 5400x2700 is 1.7x.
