You forgot to mention the battery on ..everything as a massive turn off. If you're going to promote passthough you need to say how it eats battery.
Finally someone actually talked about how it works with PCVR other than Wifi 6! Thanks mate, I was trying desperately to find out whether the resolution and lenses changed pcvr much or not. You rock!
The low storage issue is probably because of how SSDs work. Its always recommended to keep some free space on an SSD. It has to do with how they access data. You often see 25% free space recommended, but I can't find any solid source on that. Regardless, SSDs definitely need some free space to function at their full speed, which sucks when you're only getting around 100gb after system files. They really should have made the base model 265gb.
I keep filling up my Quest 2 and although I delete a few things to try and have at least 5 gig free, even when there was less that 2 it quite surprisingly still performed flawlessly. Maybe the older storage was better? Not sure, but a bit of a worry. Doesn’t sound right to me.
My Steam Deck and Asus ROG ally both came with 512GB which is the Quest 3 version I bought. Even this amount isn't enough. So I swapped out my 512GB ssd on my hand held to 2TB ssd. Would be Awesome! If we could do the same to this Quest 3. What good is a portable headset if you have no games installed to play it. Internet isn't always available. So having the games already downloaded is 🔑 😉👌💯🎮🕹🥷
Well yes and no. It probably badly calibrated cache logic. Keeping more than 10% of the SSD more than enough, maybe not the best for longevity but should work fine.
Do Not Get it!!! I prefer my quest 2. The sceeen door effect is so annoying. I am trying to return my quest 3 and just get another Quest 2. Also, his pass through is better than mine or my friends. Besides, who cares about the pass-through? I hate my apartment and if that is what is leaving a constant screen door look, totally not worth it. I guess the next closest comparison is its like there is a vague pass-through look to all my games with negates the clarity.

Imo Valve made huge mistake but not releasing any official information about Deckard before Quest 3. Once invested into quest 3, I dont see myself buying Deckard aswell.
A fantastically balanced early review - many thanks! Couple of questions - How does it compare to psvr2? How good are the media play back options for 360/vr videos etc?
PSVR2s OLED screen is better when it comes to black levels and contrasts between light and dark however the Quest 3 doesn’t suffer from any of the Mura that plagued many experiences on PSVR2. At this stage I think the Quest platform has a stronger back catalogue than PSVR2 but give it some time and PSVR2 will no doubt catch up and add in a few more meaningful exclusives (I hope). Right now I’m more impressed with the Q3 but I’m still waiting for the killer app on PSVR2, I imagine when Resi 4 Remake VR comes out I’ll be living in my PSVR2 so it’s often about the available experiences rather than the sheer tech aspect for me. I haven’t actually tried any 360 VR videos yet but I know Paradise Decay has watched a bunch of 3D movies in his Quest 3 and he was blown away by them, says it’s his new favourite personal 3D movie theatre
Thank You, it's the first fair review and not a blattering fanboy nonsense lie. I have disc hernia and the only thing I'm scary about is the weight, quite double then Quest2 and the fact that it is all on the front upper viewer. Pico4, HP G2 Reverb and others are really SO MUCH lighter then this and WELL BALANCED. How could I deal with it? Do You think could be too heavy for long session (I'm an old nerd)? Anyway the storage issue is a BIG PROBLEM imho.
Yeah storage is a bit of a nightmare, I need to buy a 512gb version really but they’re out of stock in the UK so I’ll have to make do for now, juggling installs and deleting video captures etc… it is heavier than the Q2 (by 12grams, Q2 is 503 and Q3 is 515) but it doesn’t feel it, that sounds dumb I know but with the centre of gravity sitting closer to your face makes it feel pretty much the same as a Quest 2. I think a decent head strap will be key, the stock strap isn’t good enough for comfort and distributing the weight, it’s given me a couple of headaches because I have to tighten it a lot to keep it stable

Just a little warning for people who might think the pass through is looking like that.. it's not! It's great! But it doesn't look like the videos on TH-cam! Also it's great in natural lighting! But with lights in your room it doesn't look great!! It really depends on the kind of light! But as soon as you take natural light away.. you can't see much of your surroundings anymore! Keep your expectations in check! Your not sitting in perfect lighting as these TH-camrs are. That being said, great video! I like that you take the time to go so in-depth. Oh I have one isue I noticed with the new controllers!! They don't seem to track hand movements on them so wel.. what I mean is, when you move your vinger from the stick to anywhere else on the controller it doesn't recognize that, checked it on the quest 2, and there it's significantly better! Also opening or closing your hand when on the controller is very hit or mis.. it's like it is missing that old ring for certain movements.
Good job, finally you mentioned pcvr. Since thats the only reason i have a vr headset, its good to know that its an improvement over quest2..so when my old q2 dies, i will know its worth it to get q3.

Got my 128GB Quest 3 about noon thanks to DPD and Curry’s. I have a Rift CV1. Quest 2 and PSVR2. But it wasn’t until I set up my Quest 3 and was going through the store and downloading the essential stand alone games that it hit me. I wasn’t in a VR environment I just had the menus floating in my room. It felt so natural that I never even realised I wasn’t in “VR”. This was a eureka moment. One that makes me more excited for the Apple Vision Pro. I think Meta and Apple will be the two major players in VR/AR. With the Quest being the gaming king.
Spot on review, keep up the great work! Loving my quest 3. Played a ton of q2 . The ease of use, performance and clarity on my favorite games was worth it. The only real disappointment is a lack of new games for the launch
Here's a weird question (And I'm only asking because I know you love the weird and wonderful): Ok. So I know with the Q2 you can link your pc up, enter a cinema (bigscreen) and play flat screen pc games on the cinema screen. (Dling a ps2, 3, 4 emulator and playing them on a cinema screen is straight up nutz - wipeout - ehem...) Is there a way of getting an MR version of this? The reason I ask is, can I create various screen sizes in the headset and play mame games on them? And can you resize and rotate the screen? Man, if I could play donkey kong, asteroids, pac man, 1942 in MR where I can flip the screen length ways or side ways? I'd just giggle and giggle and giggle and giggle and giggle and Street Fighter 2 Alpha!!! But, as usual, thanks for the review dude, awesome! I love the idea of playing emulators in some form of MR, I don’t know of any existing experiences but I’m hoping Q3 opens the doors for more experimentation from developers, I wanna see all kinds of weird and wonderful shit built for mixed reality and emulated games is now close to the top of my list 😂 even if it was just an MR console and an adjustable MR CRT TV that you could place around your room to play old games on! As for the old conversions they all still work on Q3, Doom 3 looks like it’s getting an upgrade as well with better lighting and higher res textures
Did you try it with a link cable to compare to the Pro and Quest 2? That's a lot of peoples use case for Q3, myself included, so very curious to hear how it compares as a wired experience. Wireless is not an option for me in my house.
Btw the white sparkles issue you mentioned is a bug affecting quest pro and quest 2 as well. Its been an issue since v53 which released in may and its still not fixed
@@BeardoBenjo It might be a coincedence. I have Quest Pro and it has 256GB. I have only Virtual Desktop installed. Nothing else since I use it as PCVR only headset. I still can see the white sparkles sometimes.

Couple questions: Before the Quest 3 was released, people were speculating on whether using the Quest Pro controllers would be better than the stock Quest 3 controllers, do you have an opinion on that now, having used the Quest 3's controllers? And, on the controllers, and being the avid VR archer that you are, you did mention these new controllers haven't dropped their tracking, but specifically over the shoulder and above the head, what's the experience like? I always hated losing my hand positioning in Skyrim VR, and when games (like Alyx) use over-the-shoulder backpack-style inventory management, is that a concern here?

As a Amazon Prime member I am getting the 512GB one because I can pay $38/month for 24 months. Yes, I will pay a little more but then I can't even afford to buy the 128GB otherwise. Great review and I am looking forward to playing games on it. Battery life doesn't bother me as I play plugged in. Can't wait for the games that come out for the Quest 3 and how great they will be.
Nice - really want that poolc table in MR! Curious how well the controllers track behind your head, for this reason. Pool on Q2 isn't really do-able because it loses tracking on the hand that's gripping the "butt" of the cue

Grate review. But have any of you experienced problems with wifi speeds over AirLink and VD? On my Quest 3 the WIFI signal is hopping from 720 - 864 - 960 Mbps in VD. The wifi setting shows a speed of 625 Mbps. While my Quest 2 in the same setup is stable at 1200 Mbps. That while I am sitting 1 m from the Ruter.. btw. Is my Quest 3 broken or is this a bug?
The comment about the quest 2 no longer getting a look in rings true, ive already arranged a " retirement " home for my quest 2 as soon as my quest 3 arrives😂. It served me well and hopefully it will serve its new owner just aswell for many years to come😊 and as he's getting it free they better appreciate it 😂

The MR setup has been fantastic, incredibly accurate, and it's remarkably fun to add my own bits of clutter and furniture - and then see how the Quest accurately maps them as physical objects. I'm not "sold" on MR as a future we're heading for, but I am truly wowed by how it looks so far. First Encounters had me laughing out loud as I searched for fluffy little buggers hiding under tables and chairs, or round corners of a wall 😊
Great review Beardo ! The MR side was something I never even considered but watching you play MR in this video has me thinking maybe I should chuck my hat in the ring and get a MQ3 now. I have a Quest 2 that's been gathering dust in a draw somewhere since buying a Pico 4 about 6 months ago. I only really use it for PCVR and it's much better with VD than the Q2 in my opinion. Do you think it's worth getting a MQ3 if I already own the Pico 4 ? Your new gaff looks nice , like the skeleton lamp stand haha !! I have seen a few others and they all seem to follow the same script, but in yours I actually learned something new :) Regarding the PCVR experience, I get what you mean, the moment I put on the Pro I decided never to look into the Q2 again. Those lenses! The stock headstrap is a tragedy, meta should just give me a five dolar discount and keep it. They missed a chance not adopting Pico 4 form factor here. Greed.
gonna be saving up a while for this but can't wait. I might even get it after some QOL updates. Love VR but just wish we had more interesting/immersive titles and less headset exclusive games
*QUESTION*: Q3 face gasket seems extra deep compared to Q2. Is that correct? Does that mean even more reason we should get 3rd party one for better FOV?
No update for After the Fall as of yet but it’s definitely a game I hope gets an upgrade, it would massively benefit from it as the PCVR version looks so good
Nothing definitive so far, Red Matter, Guardians Frontline, Windlands, Windlands 2, Resist, Population One, Into The Radius and Dungeons of Eternity all have updates and games like Walking Dead have updates coming soon. I think we’ll see more and more trickling out over the next few months
Hi, how did you manage to record the mixed reality videos? Aren't the passtrough cameras always blacked-out during recording or streaming for privacy reasons?
I had the low proformace with white spots on mine it happened when i tried recording Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge mite just be a bug with the headset as i still had like 70GB space left.

I was wondering if the controllers/headset can be connected with cables to power them instead of AA batteries and if so, what kind of cables are being used? Ive heard that the battery life of the Quest 3 is kind of bad and I would like to mitigate this with cables.
I have absolutely no idea, the thought crossed my mind today about pairing my pro controllers with it but I hadn’t thought about Q2 controllers. I’d need to do some testing but it sounds like someone else already has

The MR stuff looks so cool! Love being able to decorate your room with cool items and portal like windows. Definitely want to play Demeo in MR!

Btw the white sparkles issue you mentioned is a bug affecting quest pro and quest 2 as well. Its been an issue since v53 which released in may and its still not fixed
Ah man this has been the first time I’ve encountered it, just keeps appearing when storage is low but that might be coincidental
@@BeardoBenjo It might be a coincedence. I have Quest Pro and it has 256GB. I have only Virtual Desktop installed. Nothing else since I use it as PCVR only headset. I still can see the white sparkles sometimes.
@@BeardoBenjoi strictly use my Quest Pro for PCVR so i dont use internal storage. I had no issues til my unit updated to v53, even RMA’d the headset and it still didnt stop.
Ave oh bearded one . One question , any idea if pcvr needs a more powerful gpu and cpu ? I use a 2070 super to stream mostly and its copes well with a quest 2. Do you think it will suffer with the quest 3 ??

Yes, hand tracking is still young. It’s great if you’re just chillin’ with pass through, but it feels slippery to control if that makes sense?

Couple questions: Before the Quest 3 was released, people were speculating on whether using the Quest Pro controllers would be better than the stock Quest 3 controllers, do you have an opinion on that now, having used the Quest 3's controllers?
And, on the controllers, and being the avid VR archer that you are, you did mention these new controllers haven't dropped their tracking, but specifically over the shoulder and above the head, what's the experience like? I always hated losing my hand positioning in Skyrim VR, and when games (like Alyx) use over-the-shoulder backpack-style inventory management, is that a concern here?

No worries at all, the PCVR aspect has actually ended up being one of the best things about it, it’s miles better than Quest 2

Now that I actually own a Quest 3, I can confidently state that Beardo’s review is the most accurate and fair review I’ve seen for the Quest 3. .
As a Amazon Prime member I am getting the 512GB one because I can pay $38/month for 24 months. Yes, I will pay a little more but then I can't even afford to buy the 128GB otherwise. Great review and I am looking forward to playing games on it. Battery life doesn't bother me as I play plugged in. Can't wait for the games that come out for the Quest 3 and how great they will be.

Nice - really want that poolc table in MR! Curious how well the controllers track behind your head, for this reason. Pool on Q2 isn't really do-able because it loses tracking on the hand that's gripping the "butt" of the cue

Grate review. But have any of you experienced problems with wifi speeds over AirLink and VD?
On my Quest 3 the WIFI signal is hopping from 720 - 864 - 960 Mbps in VD. The wifi setting shows a speed of 625 Mbps.
While my Quest 2 in the same setup is stable at 1200 Mbps.
That while I am sitting 1 m from the Ruter.. btw.
Is my Quest 3 broken or is this a bug?
The comment about the quest 2 no longer getting a look in rings true, ive already arranged a " retirement " home for my quest 2 as soon as my quest 3 arrives😂. It served me well and hopefully it will serve its new owner just aswell for many years to come😊 and as he's getting it free they better appreciate it 😂
Haha mine will sit on my shelf, it’s given me countless hours of entertainment so the least I can do is display it proudly. Or find someone who’s interested in VR but perhaps can’t afford it, give it to them to pass on the joy

In all seriousness, I've only just setup my Quest 3 and I cannot agree more. The MR setup has been fantastic, incredibly accurate, and it's remarkably fun to add my own bits of clutter and furniture - and then see how the Quest accurately maps them as physical objects. I'm not "sold" on MR as a future we're heading for, but I am truly wowed by how it looks so far. First Encounters had me laughing out loud as I searched for fluffy little buggers hiding under tables and chairs, or round corners of a wall 😊
Great review Beardo ! The MR side was something I never even considered but watching you play MR in this video has me thinking maybe I should chuck my hat in the ring and get a MQ3 now. I have a Quest 2 that's been gathering dust in a draw somewhere since buying a Pico 4 about 6 months ago. I only really use it for PCVR and it's much better with VD than the Q2 in my opinion. Do you think it's worth getting a MQ3 if I already own the Pico 4 ? Your new gaff looks nice , like the skeleton lamp stand haha !! Before I go, I have a LG Oled TV and one of the screensaver paintings is a guy with a beard that looks just like you, infact, I even say hi to you everytime it shows on the screen !! Cheers pal, Daz.
This looks nothing like the passthrough on my quest… this is downright incredible!!! Mine looks extremely grainy no matter what i do. Am i missing something fundamental or is it maybe a faulty unit?
Also I find for a first VR user. The hand tracking really really good imo.

Have you tested/compared the av1 with HEVC with pcvr?
Does After the Fall get any benefit from quest 3? It is one of the most computing heavy titles
on quest 2.
No update for After the Fall as of yet but it’s definitely a game I hope gets an upgrade, it would massively benefit from it as the PCVR version looks so good

Nothing definitive so far, Red Matter, Guardians Frontline, Windlands, Windlands 2, Resist, Population One, Into The Radius and Dungeons of Eternity all have updates and games like Walking Dead have updates coming soon. I think we’ll see more and more trickling out over the next few months

Hi, how did you manage to record the mixed reality videos? Aren't the passtrough cameras always blacked-out during recording or streaming for privacy reasons?
I had the low proformace with white spots on mine it happened when i tried recording Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge mite just be a bug with the headset as i still had like 70GB space left.

I was wondering if the controllers/headset can be connected with cables to power them instead of AA batteries and if so, what kind of cables are being used? Ive heard that the battery life of the Quest 3 is kind of bad and I would like to mitigate this with cables.
