  • Hello.
I finally got my hands on the Meta Quest 3; Since the Quest 2's launch 3 years ago, the headset has become not only the most recognizable and popular headset of all time, but it's become practically THE standard for VR.
It's done an incredible job. Does its successor live up to the legacy left by the Quest 2? Well... maybe. If you have deeper pockets.
I will be giving away the Quest 3 that was give to me in my discord/ on Twitch- JOIN UP!

It's weird that Thrill had such a bad fit. I've got WAY more Neanderthal Brow than he does (c.f. PFP) and I find the Quest 3 to be the most comfortable between the Index, Q2, XR Elite, Quest Pro, and Q3... I was super concerned about the fabric strap (I ditched the Q2 strap for an order with KiwiDesigns on Day 2), but I don't have the slightest inclination to change it. It's WAAAY better than the one on the Q2.
Oh, and I have the eye relief all the way *in* - with my eyes as close to the lenses as I can get them...

It's really weird seeing this perspective from everyone. My brother got me the MQ3 out of the blue, raving about how cool it is. I keep putting it on and finding that it's so boring, I don't enjoy the controls or interface of everything, really turned off how even with wide fov, everything still seems way too shoved in your face or way too far out of view to the left and right. not enjoying having to snap my head left and right for everything or crank my head way up or down. Controls are generally horribly clunky and annoying for almost everything. Literally no games that I found are worth the chore of dealing with the whole VR experience for the entirety of a whole game. I feel very bad, this is just a subpar, sloppy, boring and annoying way to game, I'm giving it back to my brother so he can get his money back. I don't want it, I don't enjoy it or care about it in the least. I turn it on, mess around with it for 10 minutes and I'm like oh right, now I remember why this is a crap experience. It's like taking gaming and going well out of your way to make everything annoyingly cumbersome and clunky and not only that, literally everything in the app store is generic crap wanting desperately to be as appreciated as actual good games and apps that don't need VR to be enjoyable. Just not for me. What a truly unfun experience in literally every aspect possible.

Regarding power, in Medal of Honor they let you adjust resolution and other visual settings. On Quest 2 bumping those values all the way up made for a laggy, unplayable game, but the Quest 3 handles it no sweat. I'm excited, the Quest 3 is a genuinely a nice headset upgrade. The best of all, the accessories are really well put together from day 1. Considering the cost of a VR capable PC, this is arguably the better set-up. Especially love how the Quest 3 Charging Dock does actually charge all the controllers, headset, and deluxe strap with battery in one convenient set-up. That's a game changer right there, especially with upgrades now streamlined, so it's easier to pick-up and go. But I also went all-in and got the active straps and carry case, these all just fit in the case together. So overall, insanely good engineering. It's easy to pack it up to a friend's place and just be good to go for a few hours.
So, well done Meta Quest hardware (and software) engineering team! You've got a winner on your hands. Now, they can focus on streamlining the VR entry experience. I think there's a lot of opportunity to further reduce friction. Maybe even a "Hey Quest, start Pistol Whip" and have it ready to go by the time you put it on.

I’ve been using Oculus products since the CV1 just for context and have bought all of my headsets off of Oculus/Meta.
This is by far the best headset they’ve ever made.. but.
The first day I got my quest 3 I had nothing but issues. It turns out that’s because the headset did not update yet. Once the headset fully updated, it was a much better experience, and the following day was even better. If you are coming from quest two don’t expect a huge leap yet but as time goes on and it will get better as it always does with newer updates.
I highly recommend it, especially for brand new VR users. They will be blown away by this HMD.

I’ve had a Rift S since march 2020, and about six months ago the cable died, couldn’t find a new cable for cheap, so I decided to get the Quest 3 and a few days ago I got it.
I used to play a lot of Beat Saber (not the best, I believe at my peak I was somewhere in the top 9,000 players on ScoreSaber), and I gotta say - tracking is amazing. I had no problem passing light it up on expert plus, and even with airline that doesn’t work 90% of the time I’ve had zero visible delay and the mods work and it’s all perfect. There is a little compression but again, wireless and barely noticeable. Definitely great for pro beat saber players.
I just want the 120hz on link. That’s everything missing for me as a beat saber player.

From PSVR to Oculas Go and now to Quest 3. Surprisingly the tech is getting good. I think the immediate thing that blew me away was the AR passthrough features, which can be used for endless endless things. I was not disappointed with the Quest 3 even at price range. I got mine (128Gb version) three days ago and I'm loving it. Definite improvements over the Quest 2 (not saying there's anything wrong with the Q2 - still a great headset especially at the price) in frame rates, controller tracking, resolution, sound. I was able to re-use my VR Power II battery with a little fiddling with the straps to get it to fit, and also the silicon face shield thing that Meta sent me for the Q2 (you know, the thing that fixed the sweat-smelly facial interface problem?) fits on the Q3 - not perfectly but close enough. On the other hand the silicon rubber grips I bought for the Q2 controllers kill the tracking on the new controllers (much as I expected but I thought I'd try it to be sure) so I can't use them; bit of a shame but I'm sure someone will make something that works soon enough. I wear specs and the built-in adjustment works just fine for me - the kit is comfortable even after playing Warplanes: WWI Fighters for like ninety minutes straight.

I just got it. And I agree with you on every point. The mixed reality is good, but not mindblowing. I hope they improve that a lot. I expected the fov the be amazing, but it's not, its better but not that good. Still looking through scuba gear. The tracking was really good though and noticed a big difference in beatsaber. The new chip is not noticable yet, less hicups tho. I've not tested the mic yet, but i believe it will get better with software. The clarity and resolution is good, can still see pixels tho. And the comfort.. it's manageable. But that just means it's not horrible and also not comfortable. it's probably keeping me from playing with it more often. So prob going to get a bobovr strap. Also the battery, feels even worse than the quest 2 . So that battery pack will help, a lot..
I see the quest 3 as an investment. It's probably going to get a lot better overtime, but it's just not there yet.
Someone should compare launch quest 2 vs quest 3. That would probably make things better.
Btw also not so funny thing. The game you get with the quest 3. Is around 130 gB and the base model quest has 128 gigs. Not so funny. But the quest 3 128 gig is already 550 euros for me and the 512 gig is a whopping 700 euros. The euro is even worth more than the dollar so getting extra screwed in europe...

Depends on your usage you can decide on storage, I myself play mostly on PCVR so I got 128GB but if you like Quest games or the upcoming ones it's good idea to take 512GB since it's not expandable storage later
Some will say wait for Pico but the software side won't be as good as Quest due to regional issues and after introduction of MR into these, software is very important

@@Lukiepookie69420no, grab the cheaper one. 128 GB is enough for 20-40 games depending on the size of them. The money you are saving you can use to get an elite strap w/ battery or just get more games in general. I've had the Quest 1, Quest 2 and Quest 3 and I can confidently say that I've never had problems with storage, and I've got the 64 GB variant of the quest 2. 128 GB is very good.

From me whos had several VR headsets since the pre-order Vive. I can say this headset is definitely worth the $$$. The lenses themselves are the selling point for me, they're so clear! But my ONE gripe about it is this. I just bought my Quest 3 yesterday and I was honestly really impressed....until I noticed a dead pixel in my left eye down and to the right of the center of my vision. Only headset that's ever had a dead pixel for me. Once I noticed it I can't unnoticed it. Going to be exchanging it for another but for those that are on the fence about buying one just be aware. Apparently tons of people on reddit and meta forums have had this issue.
