  • The Squarp Hapax is probably one of the most powerful hardware sequencer I've used 🤩 In this video it's at the heart of the setup, sequencing the Roland JD-08 (synth & piano chords), the Make Noise 0-Coast (tonal kick) and the Dreadbox Nymphes (pulsing bass). The Roland S-1 is being played in real-time on the bridge part.
    I used a lot of features of the Hapax in this video:
    - The Euclid and Swing midi effects for the synth and piano chords
    - The conditional trigs to add fills etc., chance (probability for some notes to play or not) and roll
    - CC automation, used to modulate the cutoff, noise oscillator on the bassline played by the Nymphes
    - CV modulation on the 0-Coast (you can see the signals being sent by the red/green connectors at the back of the Hapax)
    - The transpose within scale feature, where with one track (track 16), you can transpose in real time - or record the transpositions (I used both here) - all the patterns playing on the other tracks.
    * Hardware used *
    // SYNTH & PIANO CHORDS:
    - Roland JD-08 (digital 128-voice, bi-timbral synth)
    // TONAL KICK:
    - Make Noise 0-Coast + Death by Audio Apocalypse (fuzz pedal) + Eventide H9 Max (bandpass delay)
    // BASS:
    - Dreadbox Nymphes (6-voice analog synth) + Walrus Audio Julianna (analog chorus/vibrato) + Pill (analog ducking pedal)
    // LEAD:
    - Roland S-1 (4-voice digital synth, inspired by the famous mono synth SH-101)
    // SEQUENCER:
    - Squarp Hapax (dual-project sequencer, 16 tracks per project, 8 patterns per track, 8 effects per track, algorithmic tools, MIDI, CV, etc.)

    When I was into Eurorack I absolutely loved the Hermod, and it was truly the center of my rig. I also went through a DAW-less phase where I used the Pyramid for all my arrangements. Squarp has a unique formula and a philosophy that I really like. Btw, that lead line sounds awesome.

      The Hermod seems to be a cool sequencer indeed! Actually I've thinking about getting a Pyramid or Hapax, but the Hapax finally won because of all its midi effects, pads etc. (actually working on another video with the Hapax😊)

    Great combination, especially w/o a traditional drum machine.

      Thanks Beepy Bloops! 🙏 Indeed I willingly didn't use a drum machine to see what I could came up with a limited number of instruments 😊

    Amazing. As always, spectacular . I am currently condidering the hapax or the oxione sequencer. I would value your thoughts.

      Thanks Joe, glad you enjoyed this one too! 🤗 Well I was considering both too and actually it's not so easy to take a decision! 😅 I finally went for the Hapax mainly because of its 16 tracks, 8 MIDI effects per track, 2 quite big screens, 9 knobs etc. (not really sure that I'll use the Dual-Project feature, even if it seems to be one of the main features Squarp seems to put forward). The Oxi-One is more portable, has more 2 times more CV-Gate, etc. So I think that it really depends on your needs and maybe feel with the machine.
      I've read about people which had both and after some time, some only keeping the Hapax, others the Oxi-One! So I can understand that it's not really an easy choice to make 😊

      @@joesweeney6262 My pleasure 😉 I've been thinking about using the HAPAX in a live situation too. Even if I think it has been designed with this in mind, I'm not really sure I'll want to use it as such for a long set. For me, it's more comfortable to have a hybrid setup to play live because it can really be a pain to have to change sounds on several instruments from one track to another. The HAPAX can send program changes etc. so it can be handy, however if you are also using analog instruments without presets, it can be quite a headache 😅 (I used to play in an electro-rock band where I had a setup with Ableton, a controller and hardware instruments and effects).
