    the consumer counterpart (extreme x1 gen 2) also supports up to 64GB RAM and 2 nvme ssd slots. there is no difference in the storage & ram upgradability options. i think it's worth focusing more on why having the xeon option is important. it's a pretty significant deal that i think this video missed the mark on

    • @JasperFx
      @JasperFx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regarding the "2 nvme ssd slots" on the X1 Extreme Gen 2, is that an unadvertised thing by Lenovo? I was going through the "build your own" tool on their website, and there wasn't an option for a second HD.

    • @thewheelieguy
      @thewheelieguy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JasperFx they don't mention it on the page, but it's definitely there, every review that opens up shows the two nvme slots. I'm pretty sure the case and motherboard are indentical between the p1 and x1extreme, only the CPU and GPU options and the logo are different.

      @@JasperFx i'm not sure if it's unadvertised (it's on their website if i remember correctly). but Lenovo will only populate 1 ssd slot in the build your own tool so that's why it doesn't show up as an option. but i have the x1e2 and have both slots populated

    Thanks so much! Ordered ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2 with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD. Opted for FHD because I use software programs that just won't play nice with higher resolutions! (I've been using my 4K Lenovo Yoga-910 backed down to FHD because of it.) For what it's worth, this will be my 4th Lenovo laptop - 2 while working for my previous employer and 2 bought with my own money since becoming self-employed 6+ years ago.

I like that I can close the webcam with the built-in shutter, but it looks like there is still another camera that is left open at all times. Is that other circle another camera? Really HATE the placement of the Fn key. I keep hitting it when I am trying to press the CONTROL-Key. So annoying.
    Also, because the function key pushes my hands to the right, I keep pressing the RIGHT mouse click on the trackpad when I meant to press the LEFT mouseclick. Just remove the FN key and shift everything back left.
    Go look at any other vendor's laptop. Far left is the Control key, and to its right is the Fn key.
    But no, some idiot at Lenovo decides to switch it around

    I've been living with the P1 Gen2 for almost a year now and overall, it's a great laptop. Mine is the Xeon with T2000 GPU, 1 TB SSD and 32 GB of memory. That said, here are my negatives: 1) Battery life if HORRIFIC - really about 2-3 usable hours is all you can expect, maybe another hour or so by reducing display to 1080p and just web surfing; 2) Brightness is just ok, and you cannot dim it all the way to black like you can with a MacBook Pro; 3) It is hard to convey just how much this surface material shows fingerprints, oil, etc.; 4) When pushing the computer, it gets HOT! (really hot); 5) Backlit feature of the keyboard is chintzy - the LEDs are oddly positioned around the keyboard, and the keys stand up high enough to where the light shines out from under the keys as much as it shines through the keys - not a fan (but huge fan of the keyboard, otherwise); 6) This last item is likely a one off, but the deck of my laptop squeaks against the base when I rest my hands on it to type - very annoying. I realize that seems like a lot, but for a professional mobile workstation, the P1 is really a great computer. You just have to learn to live with some build quality issues.

    I got the X1 Gen 2 on Cyber Monday
    i7-9750 (no noticeable difference between 9750 and 9850 but price difference was insane).
    8GB Ram
    256 SSD
    UHD Screen Non Touch
    My total was $1894 Canadian ($1435 US).
    I wanted the best screen because why not only $100 more.
    I will upgrade with a 1 TB SSD by Samsung for $200 Canadian.
    I will upgrade with 32 GB Ram Kit by Timetic $160 or Crucial $170
    My total cost is $2300 Canadian ($1700 US) for 1TB 32GB X1 E G2
    I tried to rebuild it and the price for it exactly the same is $2300 Canadian! $1800 US

    I have been tracking the price of the ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 on Lenovo’s website for the last several months and, I must say, I am thoroughly flabbergasted by Lenovo’s pricing tactics. I am particularly interested in the 20QTS00X00 (i7-9850H; 16gb mem, 512gb storage, no dedicated GPU, FHD 500 nits). It is currently listed at $2,249. However, in the past few months it has been on sale for $1,489, $760 less!! The price has gone up and down frequently but reached this low point multiple times. It has never reached the $3,209 which is shown as the “Web Price”. At $1,489 I believe the price is fair. At $2,249 it is way overpriced.

Its hard to imagine it staying cool, as I have a 680X case with liquid cooling for my I-9 9900k/Aorus Master desktop. It still runs a little hot. I'm guessing the prices won't be going down much on these, maybe you can get lucky on black friday. Same model I am getting on sale is 2700 now.

      @@ZackWolfMusic I got a new one about a week ago. It made it in one piece this time. I saw a pretty good deal on a P1 gen 2 I-7 6 core with 4k OLED for about 1800 after tax. The model I have is I-9 8 core 4k OLED hasn't gone down a penny, even on cyber monday. 2300. It will probably stay at that price point for awhile. The only con so far is fingerprints, but that may be common with most thinkpads. The touchpad, keyboard, display are all top notch and I haven't had any problems with thermals even while running Premiere pro. I monitor temps with core temp.

    I'm looking at both the P1 and the X1 Extreme as potential laptops, but a downside for me is the long build times for the P1 variant. For a customized unit the P1 shipping times quoted are 4-5 weeks, vs. 10 days for the X1.

    • @surject
      @surject 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sold a few X1's over the years. Some opened easily with 1 hand and some not. That being said it depends on the weather I think ;) I own a X1C5 myself and one day it works and the next day it doesn't (the norm is it does!). When I sold a X1C6 it didn't work the first few days setting it up but opened easily with 1 hand half a year later when the client brought it back to me.

    For some reason that UHD IPS screen is not available in Europe. You either have the FHD or jump to the OLED......

    • @Miaou12
      @Miaou12 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I asked lenovo about it, it's a supplier problem apparently. They said it supposed to be available again in a couple of months, at least in France where I live. Seeing the black friday coming up, I'll definitely go for the FHD HDR400, besides it's the more sensible choice for a 15' laptop anyway, cheaper and less power/cpu demanding IMHO.

    • @DrDryce
      @DrDryce 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Miaou12 thanks for the update. For me the main reason to go with the 4k screen was the color space (sRGB, AdobeRGB) accuracy, which is definitely superior over the FHD option this model offers. It's even one of the main reasons I'm considering this laptop. But of course, that depends to each one's use case.

    A super laptop and possibly my favorite, but well outside my price range. I'm still using an E570 laptop for light programming and office work, so for my mobile needs it serves me well. For gaming I'd still rather use either a full desktop with Linux Mint or console(PS4). I used to game on my aforementioned laptop, but not any more since I'm slowly converting from windows 10 to Linux Mint. While I haven't had any major problems with W10 that couldn't be solved by simply rebooting it the updates have always come at the most annoying moments.
