    Harry I am not surprised to hear you had 28 mill views you are the only motoring journo who does not consantly reffer to pwer and show cars powersliding their way around car parks or race tracks you talk about the very real world we live in and the everyday running costs / servicing/ problems with ignition systems / or injection systems keep up the great work love the channel and content across all the channels here and harrys farm outside visits to other garages and manufacturers

      Hope the manufacturers and suppliers are taking note of the standards of their parts that carry their name and brand. If they cut costs, then there's a price to pay in their reputation. All very well using 3rd parties and charging OEM prices but if the parts aren't up to scratch..

      Agreed. Most car channels these days seem to just go wild about how loud a car is and don't factor in much else.

    I love the narrative of this channel, Harry shows the real world of classic car ownership, positive and negative.

    I wish more TH-camrs did honest videos like this. Too often the impression of owning cars looks all fun and games. Little do people realise the reality. Thanks as always for all of the great videos Harry! And sorry I don’t mean to lump you into the “TH-camr” category, we know you’re much more than that 😁 all the best!

    Hi Harry, happy new year.
    Great fan and all that. Wanted to say that I'd been fighting to get my XJS V12 working right for the last 8 years with all the issues and many more that you have been experiencing. I also bought the AJ6 modifications including the exhaust and have also had it converted to manual. However no matter what I did, one or more cylinders would stop working. Bought new injectors, fuel regulators, all the sensors, plugs, ignition wires, distributor, ignition amplifier, coils, etc... and the list goes on and on.
    I've recently bought a very interesting system from a chap in Norway, who sells a kit to convert the car to a modern ECU system which also removes the need for the ignition distributor and all the vacuum pipes. All I can say is WOW!! I recommend you do a search for Mobeck Tekniske Jaguar V12 efi kit, in the case you have problems again. I'm not affiliated in any way with these guys.
    All I can say is that I can now balance a very thin coin on one side of the engine intake and it doesn't fall down!!!!
    By the way I'm based in Pakistan and I have the only V12 XJS coupe in the whole country!!!

    Couldn’t agree more…as a petrolhead I own 2 performance cars but have 1000 mile limits on both each year. Companies lie about range even on the adverts when you read the small print at the bottom of the screen.
    Poor infrastructure is another government failure… and don’t be naive to think EV owners won’t be charged in the near future to get some revenue back to the government.
    Keep it coming Harry…you are perfectly placed and knowledgeable to be able to give a sensible view of things👍👍

    A great summary video of the year, back in about 1988/89 I had a 1984 Jaguar 4.2 Sovereign ( my first Jaguar, I am now on my 11th ) I also had issues with the fuel tank change over valves, similar to you , the first I knew was a car following me on a motorway kept flashing their lights for me to pull over, when I did he told me my N/S tank was overflowing and spraying his car with a spray of fuel, I then had to make sure I used the N/S tank first as the O/S tank used to pump into it ! A short while later we got the valve renewed and all good after that. Love your collection and find the videos very informative , thank you so much.

    Happy New Year, all!
    I so feel Harry's pain. On the "slightly" cheaper end of the classic car spectrum: I ran a MGB GT for a few years as a daily. The issue with "new" parts that just weren't up to any standard is so (!) familiar + to frustration from having a just refreshed car play up yet again.
    Good job Harry's got a few alternative cars to use - for me it was start spannering on a Friday, have it back together and running on Monday morning :-)

    • @cdg3818
      @cdg3818 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, if you can avoid replacing kit its usually the best policy. Had a series of 'new' coils which failed on me, the original lasted 40 years prior to that. Very annoying.

    • @jensklingenstein1451
      @jensklingenstein1451 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@cdg3818 I know what you mean. Unfortunately not only was my time to work on it limited - more crucially the skill was/is, too. I managed to rebuild the clutch slave cylinder, but due to shoddy new rubber parts I did that twice in my 5 years with the car. Then there were the Armstrong-style dampers on the front... They were basically a routine service item, each time being replaced with refurbished items - until I upgraded to coils ...

    The Lancia Fulvia Zagato was definitely a high point for me. I consider the videos capturing all of the work that went into this little car to be among the best content I've seen on TH-cam. I'm not even a Lancia fan per se, yet I've become very enamored with this car in terms of what it represents to Harry personally as well as it being representative of all the individuals that worked on restoring it. Once again, I tip my cap to all involved.

    Happy New Year! Good way to start it. I'm about to renew an insurance policy on one car so I reckon £7.5k for your fleet is excellent. Poor replacement parts is a shoddy situation as I bet the prices are premium. Thanks, Harry, for so many excellent Sunday evenings and I look forward to seeing 600k subscribers and future uploads. Loved the channel a real pleasure to watch, many thanks for taking the time, also thanks to your son and Mrs for holding the camera.
    1) The Jag I would be really annoyed with, I remember the guy that built the engine had loads of V12 engines and XJ-S cars in the workshop and he said we can do this and we can do that. I would have sent the Jag back saying, " Well you can get this running as it should". Surely the amount of experience in that workshop there must some knowledge of injectors. I remember they talked you into having some new ignition system. Back in the day the twin tank system was never a problem other than wear and tear. All subjective, but in my view the XJ Coupe sits too low and has a ruined stance, in my opinion it looks like a 10 year old, 100,000 miler with saging suspension.
    2) This may or may not help but Lucas were an importer for Magneti marelli during the time your Espada was built, maybe some old Lucas dealer may have some original parts lying around.
    3) The Lamborghini gearbox, this would drive me nuts. It is like a weeping sore without a plaster.
    In summarization you have shown that these old cars are a labour of love and hassle, a bit like a boat, a constant money drain. You are lucky you are someone who has a plethora of toys to choose from, if you were on a budget with either the Jag, or either Lambo, and they were all you had, you would soon out them. I believe the issue with these so called supercars is they were not that good to begin with so they did not sell many. So, the knowledge is scarce. All those mechanics that worked on Ferraris where I worked are now dead, all the knowledge died with them. If I was to have a 1970's classic I would have either a Jensen Interceptor, any TR or MG. The reason being is there is still so much knowledge and exellent parts supply around these cars, after all, what good is a car that does not move.
    All of you have a Happy and Healthy 2023.

    Sometimes really good things can happen.
    I had a brilliant experience a few years ago, Feb 2016, with my (moderately warmed up) Saab 2.8 V6 manual 9-3 aero. The air conditioning compressor died. The Saab specialist servicing company that I trust is 1,100 km away and I couldn't drive to them at the time to get the work done. The genuine Saab part was over $3,000, but there was an OEM part for around $600 that they use. They didn't have one in stock, but they gave me the ebay link to the part. I checked it out and ordered. I got an email from the American company asking for my VIN because it was a different market and they wanted to make sure that it was the correct part for my car. They could have just sold it to me and not bothered about whether or not it fitted. But they checked to make sure. It was the right part. I call that good service. It ended up costing $650 delivered.
    Swedish Prestige/Melbourne European here in Australia and BuyAutoParts.com in the USA both get a big tick of approval from me.

    Fascinating insight into exotic car ownership, as usual. I love the restoration content though! The kind of work and a level of commitment I can only aspire to! Please keep buying sentimental wrecks and bringing them back 👍🏻

    You learn so much about vintage car restoration, car ownership, as well as from the new car reviews watching Harry. Thanks for all the joy and fun of ‘22. Surprising was parts replacement from Jaguar and Lambo that proved faulty! Are they really making these parts in China? Harry should claim compensation for the damage and extra expense caused after the fitting of these genuine faulty parts! Many of us never know the root cause of why our car components sometimes fail but Harry always has a fascinating answer from the brilliant people he uses to service and rebuild his cars. The coolant hose issue on the Jag Project 8 was illuminating. Look forward to the Countach and many other car reviews in ‘23 from my favourite You Tube car guy - HM.

    Mister Metcalfe thank you very much for sharing all this great content true out the year. It makes us enjoy the ownership of such cars and running a collection. The strong side of your videos seems to be your own style, doing your own thing. Where everybody fly s out to the same press launch you do it your own way! Like with the gt3 also your grandson in the back of the turbo s and visits in mister Tyrells workshop are awsome! Idee for a video, a car off the year video (like evo) but than with classics from a certain time frame or price point. I hope you and your family have great healthy and successful 2023! Best regards Frank
