The new Macbook Pro has a few shortcomings... One feature that I have missed is the Magsafe charger from previous versions. This USB-C magnetic charge cable brings magnetic connectivity back to the Macbook Pro (or Macbook or any other USB-C capable device). Turns out there are a few of these cables on the market so I've linked them above. The cool thing about magnetic charging for laptops is the safety aspect. When the cable is kicked or tripped over it simply disconnects without damage to the laptop or charger.

The problem we always used to see with the magsafe connectors, was when errant bits of metal got stuck between the charger and the laptop, causing a short. I don't know how or why so many people had iron filings in their houses and offices, but we probably saw 2 or 3 each month.

I backed that project. The creators were horribly behind schedule, uncommunicative, and delivered a seriously crap product. I ordered two of these and they both failed within a week of use.
Unlike Volta who are the exact opposite and really involved with the customers. You should check them out, really high quality, and they use their money building schools in africa :)

@Johnson McBig yes I bought 2 products from eBay abit over 1 year ago. Both products came with 2 adapters. After 2 adapters broke in my phone (very difficult to remove the bit from in the phone) I threw the others away

why don't mobile companies add this magnetic thing on the USB port but seamlessly so there won't be a bump like this one? It will be super convenient and it will block any water coming through (water restistant)

Yummy Hershey, I didn't say they should implement this idea for the safety of the mobile. I agree with you that phones are light and will probably fly and hit the ground but I think they should do it because of the convenience of it (easy plugging and blocked path for water to come in). Only one problem. You now loose the ease of putting the USB-C in any direction when you snap onto the magnet. You need to pay attention to the orientation of the contact points. But that's not much of a problem when you get the benefit of not pulling the device off the table every time you hit the cord, so great product!
I have some of these for lightning, mini-USB, and micro-USB plugs and although I can't say anything for certain about this USB-C version, the magnetic plug adapter that I have connects and works regardless of the orientation.

I think I'd rather put the magnetic end where the charger is. I'm more likely to have the magnetic piece slip off if it were in my laptop bag or if I were just carrying around my phone. If it's on the brick it just sits there -- no big deal. Cool idea though. I might get one.
Acuity problem is sometimes when people trip on cables they end up stepping on the cable, which would tug the laptop off the table
His idea could actually work perfectly for say phone charging, enabling you to still use it while charging and not worry about hand placement knocking it loose... Just have to worry about getting a little to excited and jerking where it would come off the power adapter.
This is going to be awesome for the samsung phones. My number one complaint on any of the samsung phones that I've had are the crap-a$$ charger ports. Sometimes the charger fails, sometimes the phone's port fails (which is a nightmare!). Nice find!

Yes! This little thing is awesome! Over time it doesn't snuggle up as nice to the clasp... but still a little wiggle and it works just fine. Great idea and broken power jack cost $100 to fix at the cell phone store.

I like the idea of this but wish you had shown trying to remove the magnet part once inserted in your phone and holding the phone while attached. I bought one of these magnetic usb cables but sent it back bc the magnet part is very tight in the device that i had to use pliers to remove it. Not a big deal if you rarely need to remove it but if you do then its a pain. Also charging was a bit slower and when i held my phone using it plugged in the cable would disconnect too easily for my personal use. Just my two honest cents. Others might have different experiences.
Yeah, would love these with a clasp. I like the idea of not having to insert the cable each time and sparing my charging port, but the magnetic part is dumb. They should just have the magnet focus on charging conductivity and have a little metal clasp maybe, like a squeeze operated one with two teeth that open and grasp the adapter. Then to unplug squeeze and release. Not hard to do. They're trying to be too cool and modern with the click and ease of use but I want something serious. I realize you'd lose the breakaway function like this, but if they were serous about it they'd have a break way joint in the cable itself like a lot of wired gamepads have.

I have magnetic cables for iOS and Android. They charge slowly, disconnect easily and the Android cable just stopped working after a few weeks of use.

These have been out for years. I have some of these for lightning, mini-USB, and micro-USB plugs...for all my mobile/portable devices. It's only due to the implementation of the USB-C spec as a standardized charging/power port that has allowed the utility of these magnetic port adapters to become a feasible form factor for laptops. Since all Mac laptops are manufactured by Apple the ability for there to be a standardized hardware component of any kind (even if proprietary) is unencumbered (to which I'm left baffled as to why they would abandon their magnetic charge apdapter plug...it was a game changer). On the other hand there are more Windows-based laptop manufacturers than there are car manufacturers , with what seems like just as many different A/C plug form factors. Regardless of Apple's decision to discontinue their usage of it, I've always thought it was a great idea and wanted it for my Windows laptop. So, I'm hoping that this sector moves to implementing the USB-C spec as a standardized charging/power port and that I don't wake up and find out that this is still just a pipe dream.

For some reason, during an earlier crowdfunding ( ~10+ years ago? ) , I thought this company was simply pitching a magnetic intermedia adapter to a standard USB data+charging cable at a cheaper price. I'd still buy into it sans the charger expense. I thought they were then going to possibly expand into a headphone jack magnetic adapter.
BAD PRODUCT :when you plug it it should be in the correct position or else it won't connect . It's not symmetrical.

How do you know you plugged it right? The main advantage of usb-c is there is no right and wrong position. you gust plug it. Same as old magnetic apple connectors...

Used to have something similar for my iPhone, I stopped using it. I think it's great for laptops because laptops remain static even in use, but simple things like lifting your phone from the table would cause the cable to disconnect. Unless you don't use your phone at all during charging, then you shouldn't get this.

Interesting product, this is a common problem especially with non apple laptop where the charger or other connection can be ripped by tripping over the cable, I don't know why manufacturers don't always do this?
