Dr. Santarelli is an exceptional surgeon. He takes the time to explain everything clearly and concisely. We never feel rushed when we see him and his genuine concern for all of his patients is evident from the first time you meet him. Thanks to him and his team my wife is on the road to recovery. I recommend him highly. Thank you doctor for all the great work you are doing!
very helpful video! i did this for the first time last night after septoplasty and it made a world of difference and i was able to sleep a full night after 3 nights of no sleep
About 15 years ago, I had surgery to correct a deviated septum and to reduce the size of my turbinades. At my doctor's orders, I bought a waterpik and a nasal irrigation tip. I found it to be very soothing, in addition to getting rid of the scabs and the slouging of the excess turbinade material. Since that time, I've been using that process, although only occasionally, once my nose had healed. I use it any time I feel somewhat congested. It really helps to make your nose feel clean and enhances breathing.
My surgeon provided me a premixed saline solution with a very low concentration of a decongestant (like Afrin) to irrigate through my left frontal sinus after a trephination procedure. I think it was called Proetz solution. I may have spelled that incorrectly. Three times a day for several weeks until the drain tube was removed. I used a syringe minus the needle to force the irrigation through the sinus. This was done in 1996, so techniques may have changed since then. I was 41. I'm almost 70 now.
My doctor told me not to because of the dissolveable packing. Sinus rinse would get rid of it too quickly so he told me to use a Saline spray instead. I started irrigation a week and a half later.
@Louca Viotto So glad I just read this. I was getting ready to purchase a neti pot. I also have a saline rinse asked by my doctor to use. I'm so stuffy but it's only day 2.
@@sophiah8794 Yeah, first few days is very rough but it quickly turns around on the 5th or 6th day! Everyone is different so you might feel better earlier or later. Time heals all :)
The sinopure nasal wash kit contains the bottle and sodium bicarbonate sachets..and doctor has suggested not to use the salt as she is operated for sinus 7 days ago.use lukewarm water ...then my doubt is how to use the nasal wash?? Just rinsing with lukewarm water or any other ingredients need to be added to that wash?
@@priyansh2821 damn dude that screwed you. Good thing you found it. I'm glad I started using it. I was finally able to sleep 😴, and I can somewhat breathe.
Thank you for contacting us, Kyle. Unfortunately we are not able to offer advice for post-surgical care due to legal reasons. We would recommend that you contact the physician that performed your septoplasty.
@@duns1818 I have a packing and splints because this is the second surgery (my first one failed after 7 years). My surgeon said no irrigation or Afrin. The second day after surgery I'm allowed to spray the saline in my nose and use gel. You don't want to put a lot of pressure through there with the splints and in my case extra cartilage they graphed for me.
You give the ingredients to make your own solution but did not mention the volume of distilled water you put the mixture in, or have I missed something?
No, he doesn't give the volume of distilled water in this demo. The commercial mix is about half a teaspoon per 250 mL cup, so I assume his recipe is per litre of distilled water.
how about with packing in the nose? is there another way? I can't seem to get it out the opposite nostril, it all goes to the back of my throat, and I've done it before surgery so I know im doing it right.
Did you find a solution to this in the end? I had septoplasty surgery on Wednesday 29th of May and it’s now Saturday and I’m hoping to start the nasal rinse but I’ve still got dissolvable packing up each nostril blocking the path and I dont know what to do
I just had my devated septum fixed and when I use these nasal sprays one ervy 2 hrs and the other ervy 4 but I get this black blood looking stuff coming out it's making me nervous low key but I'm guessing it's normal cause I had surgery wens
I have just done my septoplasty and start doing nasal wash. But when i push water from left to right nostril its came back from the same nostril water never going to the other. Pls advise
I learned that it was because my doc had splints inserted into my nostrils (plastic pieces that held my nose together for recovery). If you have nasal splints, you won’t be able to use the neil med bottle til after the splints are removed. Having splints in were one of the most uncomfortable experiences I’ve ever faced but once the doc removed them, I was able to breathe perfectly through both nostrils! Have a great recovery!
I appreciate this so much because I have never seen a doctor perform something on themselves as an example. Thank you for this video!!!
We're glad to hear it!
Agree completely - there’s something comforting about seeing the doctor demonstrate
He is not using the right angle..bottle tip should not be pointed to septum
Well done with the K advice, had surgery today so rinsing starting tomorrow. 👍👍

Thank you Dr Santaralli , you are an exceptional and kindly of Surgeon. Am grateful for your kindness and compassion. Thanks. Fatima
How soon should I use them? I wasn't told until after I had my surgery. Never done it before
Much appreciated. Thank you so much for your dedication and professionalism. You have been part of an amazing blessing for me and my family
Great video. The tips given helped me immensely do nasal irrigation the right way. Thank you!
The water goes to the ear because my nose is blocked after the septoplasty surgery
Very helpful and clearly explained and demonstrated. Thanks
After the surgery, when do I have to rinse it? Thank you.
Thank you so much for demonstrating the process of irrigation!
Glad it was helpful!
Just went through sinus surgery and this helped a bunch
What if the blood clog not coming out and put pressure on your ear?
Amazing !! TY for the help with great and simple explanation and a small show and tell...
Great video thanks Doc. The K trick works well. Recovering from a septoplasty op in Australia
Do you still get some in the mouth? I've been doing it and it's helping, but the sensation is odd
The Pickling Salt aisle of the grocery store? 😆Thanks for the video. Just had surgery yesterday.
Can this help with turbinate hypertrophy?
Thank you from the Netherlands!
Could you also do this after deviated septum surgery? I would be so worried I could push the septum back out of place again.
This is also my worry. Commenting for traction .

Wouldn't you damage the result of rhinoplasty and tip shape by forcing the tip of the bottle in your newly operated on nostril?

Hi doc trying your rinse procedure but seems to come back same nostril ( 12 days post septoplasty & still feel congested ) thanks for demo
My plates are still inside so I can do that?
Thank you so much Doc. I really needed this
Thanks for sharing. This was very helpful for us all.
How long after the surgery can this be done?
You said it will be covered later?
I had a afollow up after 4 days in which doc prescribed the bottle and sachets. So basically 5 days.

How long after surgery though. I had the balloon thing down in both nasal passages and the right side for my deviated septum.
